  1. "but hey, regarding a great photo spot, try the 7th floor of the new federal courthouse tower." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that cameras weren't allowed in the courthouse tower. Mind you when I took a hardhat tour, they didn't a rat's patooty. :?
  2. ^Either you've done that too much already, or you need to do it a little more.
  3. The way to get developers on board with green building is to (pardon the cheesey quote) "show them the money". Once they understand that the extra investment in initial construction will reap benefits for their clients and 1. increase their properties' appeal, and 2. show tenants that they care about issues like indoor air quality, etc., they'll see why it pays (over time rather than up front) to be concious of LEED certification.
  4. Only problem, smackem - I don't think I could pass for a collegiate any more - hmm, but a grad student... that's an idea!
  5. Out of curiosity, is one required to have a CSU ID to go to the upper floors of Rhodes Tower? Say for... taking some photos? Or even better... if any CSU employee here on the forum can get me access to an upper floor (with views to the west, preferably in the morning) of Fenn Tower, I'll buy you a six-pack of your drink of choice :-D Anyone who can help, please PM me. Thanks!

Locally If we're talking about "beer and bite to eat": Although the Southside in Tremont is great as well: If we're talking about a bar for "my people", I'd say Twist for drinks/socializing and the Grid for dancing. If we're talking mixed places, V Lounge, Kevin's Martini Lounge (in the Pickwick/Frolic complex), Mercury Lounge, Market Avenue Wine Bar, and the bar at Flying Fig. Non-local Columbus - Hyde Park Grille (bar only), Havana Cincinnati - Orchid at Palm Court (in the Netherland Hotel) Pittsburgh - True (Northside) NYC - Therapy, XL, East of Eighth (especially when Hedda Lettuce is doing her show) And some favorites that are no longer in existence: Cleveland - the Humidor, Smart Bar, Spy (it's still there, but it's lost any bit of charm), Touch (it's just not the same anymore) NYC - Limelight, Tunnel, USA
  7. ^If that's the same awful reflective glass that's used on the Levin building, they shouldn't even bother. However, if they're using something more transparent, I'm all for it.
  8. Sorry - but I remember reading in Crains about some tech group that planned to move into the space. This was probably at least a few years ago and it sounded like the idea fell through - so why a banner now?
  9. Some great photos - and I thought small-town NorthEAST Ohio was desolate :|

Actually I don't think he quite noticed me - note that his lens is pointed down (where he's standing is on the bridge in the Old Arcade) so he's likely snapping pics of people dining below. Folks - trust me, your metabolism is in overdrive in college and then some time after, it hits an oil patch and skids off into oblivion. I never had to do crunches to keep everything in place a few years ago, and now if I forget to do them I feel like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man!
  11. Net 11 was another casualty of the dot-com bust.
  12. I'm reposting these from Mister Good Day's original post - I forgot that the previous thread was locked. ........ Here is the site as it existed before demolition: Here is the new site plan: Renderings of new houses, townhouses and apartment buildings: Renderings of new structures, part 2: FHHA compliance:

  14. I'm surprised I didn't see you as I was in that area as well. Amazing set of pics - thank you!

Hey now - that was my Minolta S414 which was only 4mp with 4x optical. And I didn't mean any harm - I just thought it would be funny to deny that I was "MayDay" - I mean, I did hurry up and 'fess up, didn't I? Sorry

"Fat!?" Well, it was a few years ago, when I was living in suburbia (with my now ex) and not getting to the gym as much as I'd like. I gained an inch on my waist which was a little unsettling.

Ugh, back in my fat days! :-P

Welllll, from time to time, some of my friends ask me to help them stalk people. Not that I know ANYTHING about that!

    Prove it :-)
  20. "all of the low-rise trees" Let me tell you, I was just walking by the northeastern quadrant today and whatever those species are - they gotta go. They just look like something out of Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride", and worse - they provide plenty of cover for the homeless to camp out once their leaves come back. They need something a little taller that still offers shade, but the trees that are there now aren't cutting it.
  21. I'm just saying if you're gonna talk smack about the place, do it right! :-D

I suppose I feel the same way about the view of the Detroit-Superior Bridge from the Shoreway. See how the white arches create that strong line from one side of the pic to the other? I love that view at night but Stonebridge Plaza is going to put a big "hiccup" there.
  23. Have you ever been out taking photos and spotted another person doing the same thing? I sometimes wonder - are they "one of us"? Or are they just photo-happy tourists? (Not that there's anything wrong with that). So I was out today, and I saw this guy snapping pics but two things make me think he's not just a tourist: 1. The camera looked rather pricey 2. He was snapping pics of architectural details, rather than the "Kodak moment" shots. Makes ya wonder...

Keep in mind that the new building won't be "hugging" the viaduct as the others do. There's also a good stretch of the viaduct that's to the left of what you see in the photo. Sorry, I'm pretty happy to see a 12-story upscale condo building going up and if that means a lesser view of the viaduct (which is still open to the public), so be it. :-) *EDIT* And what the heck, here's another pic:
  25. Can anyone identify the crane in this pic? I'm guessing it's for the Parker Hannifin Admin Building? I took the photo last weekend from the Innerbelt:
