Also posted in the Beacon construction thread - from West Schaaf Road.
  2. Photo from West Schaaf Road - Beacon is dead center and for reference, the Lumen (Playhouse Square apartment tower) will fill the gap between the Keith Building and the ArcelorMittal building on the far right.

It's been a doozy of a year so not much to get photos or a thread together but figured it was about time. Just some recent pics from the Scranton Flats Trail - one of my favorite spots in recent years, and interesting to see the fauna that's become more and more prevalent: Hope you enjoyed :)

  6. cg[/member] I don't see any image? PoshSteve[/member] you beat me to the punch - I was in the same spot Saturday. :)

"*shrug* just another well educated millennial wanting more from my city." There's nothing wrong with wanting more, and Cleveland can certainly use fresh blood and new ideas, however: 1. Millennials aren't the first ever (or only) group to point out flawed developments and policies or that Burke could possibly be put to better use. 2. It's one thing to "want" something, but whenever I see posts like this (not just about Burke) - I rarely see any detailed and thoughtful plans of paying, implementing, executing, *or* understanding of the context and history of "why things are the way they are". Take a look at some of the more detailed transit posts by KJP[/member] and how he goes into detail about funding, implementation, etc. 3. As others have stated, Cuyahoga County airport in no way matches the capacity or role that Burke has (size of planes, proximity to downtown corporate interests, etc.) 4. Any suggestion of expanding Cuyahoga County airport would be shot down by the deep-pocketed and well connected surrounding communities. Who knows - maybe eventually something better will come along at Burke, but it won't just happen because "we don't want it enough".

    Done.
  9. This is a thread for actual development, please stay on topic.
  10. And not a crisp shot (for some reason, my husband won't come to a complete stop on I-480/Valley View Bridge??), but gives an idea of the spot the Beacon is filling in:

Just got back from a trip to the Hamptons - it's been a while since I've been on a flight that went over downtown so this was a nice way to end the vacation: Little Italy, Uptown and University Circle: University Circle: University Circle and the Cleveland Clinic: Midtown: Cleveland State University: Playhouse Square: Gateway District: Downtown: Terminal Tower:

Hotter than blazes today but snagged a pano at the Indians game today; it dawned on me that the Lumen tower will fill in the gap between CSU Rhodes Tower and the Keith Building from this angle.
  13. ^It reminds me of One Indiana Square - this was a cosmetic rework of the facade but still looks "unfinished". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_Tower_(Indianapolis)
  14. ^Yeah, at some point in the fall I’d like to update that shot, maybe when the crane is up for Lumen. That view is from West Schaaf Road at Hinckley Industrial Parkway.
  15. ^^ "“We’re not building on farmland, we’re building on structures in an incredibly active section of Euclid Avenue during the late 1800s and early 1900s,” he says. “It’s not a surprise that you’d find something left. It’s a matter of what you will uncover.”" And that's on *top* of the issues with construction/excavation when it comes to downtown (glacial sediment, till, etc.) - our forumers in the geotechnical field are welcome to chime in.
  16. Let's keep the thread on the topic at hand - want to go on a tangent, you are welcome to start a new thread in the appropriate section.
  17. ^Love the view from the water. A few from yesterday along the Innerbelt
  18. Just so it is perfectly clear, do NOT ever share tips on how to get past paywalls, etc. People can figure that out on their own, but in no way, shape or form do the Admins endorse this. For those who don't know or remember, several years ago, UrbanOhio.com was served a 'cease and desist' by the eight largest newspapers in Ohio because people were copying and pasting entire articles, and we were *this* close to being shut down. It was yours truly who negotiated on the forum's behalf for time to lock non-compliant threads and edit them to be compliant with their wishes. After hundreds of hours of volunteer time from selected forumers, we got all the threads in order and the 'okay' from the newspaper groups.
  19. Another day, another Beacon photo:
  20. Update from today:
  21. Yep, and further south, the OB/GYN unit at Salem Regional Medical Center (where I was born) closed in May, leaving all of Columbiana County without those services.
  22. ^Caissons.
  23. As much as I don't like seeing threads going off topic, I think the following photos of the Hilton construction might help put things in perspective. March 7, 2014 End of the "moving dirt around" phase, note how the site is smoothed out (Lumen site isn't at this point yet): April 17,2014 Caisson drilling equipment has been set up: May 9, 2014 Caisson drilling well underway: July 16, 2014 We finally see the first portion of the tower crane (far right of photo), and by the end of July the first phase of the tower crane was in place:
