Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
Just when you thought this thread couldn't get more intriguing, I get an email from an address I didn't recognize. All they had in the subject line was "from a long time visitor of your site" with some technical specs and these two images. What does everyone think? I guess I like the design but was really hoping for something more substantial for the Public Square site. It seems as though they're trying to continue the flow of the reworking onto Rockwell but it's hard to tell from these renderings. I uploaded the specs to my site if anyone is interested: http://tinyurl.com/juj3l6r

Welcome to the forum - since it's not a discussion of the reconstruction, this is a good spot for your post. If you haven't already, I would visit clevelandmemory.org. Following that, pay a visit to the Cleveland Public Library's main branch - Louis Stokes tower and check out the Photographs collection on the 4th floor. You'll have to fill out a short form and you're given gloves to handle the photos but they have an amazing collection of historic images. Let us know what you find.- Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
Also noticed on Scranton Avenue just north of Kenilworth, the house and small industrial building on the right were demolished - anyone know if something worth mentioning is going in?- Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News

^My first apartment in Cleveland was in this building - top floor on the left in the first photos; great views of downtown.- Palm Springs, California
Earlier this month, my husband and I took a trip to Southern California to celebrate his birthday. Our first destination was Palm Springs - and before anyone asks, no - we did *not* "take the tram". En route from Riverside County: Ugh... forgot we had some curves and elevation changes - on our return trip we got to enjoy these dips and curves along with 60mph winds :-P The Morongo Casino and Resort. I knew the area had wind turbine farms - I just didn't realize how d@mn many there were! The Palm Springs Visitor Center - yep, they love their mid-century modern architecture here. We were staying near the 'downtown' area; of course we had to get some of the touristy shots such as Liberace's former home. And Katherine Hepburn's former home: Lots of lovely details and landscaping on the homes in this section: A lot of the homes are either mid-century modern or Mediterranean-inspired... And then there's this *thing* which I think resembles most of the Dillard's department stores in shopping malls across America. If I recall correctly, it's for sale for the paltry sum of $11,000,000. Walking down Palm Canyon Drive, the main north-south thoroughfare: Who knew they had a Walk of Fame? The building under construction is a redevelopment of a former shopping mall - a lot of the locals seem to think it's the further 'ruination' of the character of the city. :? One of several lovely sunsets: The next morning we took a walk around the residential areas closer to the mountains: This subtle piece of real estate was recently acquired by Leonardo DiCaprio Dame Elizabeth Taylor's former digs: A little more shopping on Palm Canyon: So the next day, I start walking on Palm Canyon and noticed small white wispy clouds at the top of Mount San Jacinto. In ten minutes they went from small and wispy to "yeah, I better pick up the pace" aka a storm was about to roll in. The new Arrive Hotel - not quite open when we were there: And speaking of arriving - the storm eventually hit with 60mph winds and rain; ah well we weren't going to let that spoil our trip. We made our way to the art museum which has quite an impressive collection for a smaller museum and they had an amazing exhibit of one family's collection but of course, no photography permitted in the galleries, just the sculpture garden and common areas. :| Over to more antique shops south of the museum - some pricier homes up in the hills: Bob Hope's former spaceshi... home: We stopped in the Parker Hotel for cocktails - this was known as the Givenchy when it was owned by Merv Griffin but has new ownership and redesigned by Jonathan Adler: The next day, you can see the storm left some snow pack on Mount San Jacinto: Random shots around 'downtown' Palm Springs: And then we're off to our next destinations - Riverside County and San Diego. Hope you enjoyed!- Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion

... and the model showing all three phases, which probably cost a pretty penny. Not speaking on behalf of everyone but plenty of forumers have been following development in Cleveland for a long time; I think it's premature to be either boosterish *or* a downer.- Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland

Big news for the banking world in Akron - FirstMerit is selling to Huntington: FirstMerit Bank, with 2,000 employees in Akron, sells to Huntington Bank By Teresa Dixon Murray, The Plain Dealer on January 25, 2016 at 11:00 PM, updated January 26, 2016 at 12:05 AM AKRON, Ohio -- In a monster deal between two of Ohio's largest banks, Huntington Bank of Columbus is catapulting to the national stage by buying FirstMerit Corp. of Akron. The blockbuster deal will create a bank bigger than Cleveland-based KeyCorp and will give Ohio another powerhouse bank nationally. Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati will remain Ohio's largest. But the sale of FirstMerit will almost surely mean significant local job loss. FirstMerit employs about 4,000, with about 2,000 of those at the Akron headquarters, according to the city of Akron. More at http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2016/01/firstmerit_bank_with_2000_empl.html#incart_m-rpt-1- Hey CBUS, what brings you up to CLE, and vice versa?
^About the only time we go to Columbus is to visit our friends, who live in German Village, and they usually set the itinerary. Things like Comfest aren't our cup of tea, but if there's something cool (i.e. Urban Scrawl) we'll check it out. German Village is definitely yuppy-leaning compared to how it was in the 70s.- Columbus, OH - A Fashion Capital?

^As much as I want to say "the more the merrier", I'm skeptical with other spots like Music Box not far away. Hopefully they can make a go of it; I have too many memories of the space from the mid-90s (as Metropolis, then Trilogy, then Metropolis again) to picture it as a "comedy/corporate event" venue. :|- CLEVELAND (Mostly) - 2015
It's a work by Sol Lewitt, which was created by a team of his staff and museum workers: http://www.clevelandart.org/art/2008.144?collection_search_query=lewitt&op=search&form_build_id=form-qkl6JX_hW2799DVb_59N_wXiJFQyv0RNFwUEEhHEoak&form_id=clevelandart_collection_search_form We first tried to go to the Monet/Matisse show on Black Friday and the line to get in the garage was all the way to East Boulevard.- CLEVELAND (Mostly) - 2015
Alright, there may be a few other places mixed in but the vast majority are of/from Cleveland. First, a selection of what I thought were the better photos I took this year: And finishing up the year with some pics from the end of November and December. Some great sunsets, which the new/newish glass buildings picked up: In case the cloudy days last all through January, this is what the sky looks like ;-) The Arcade, decked out for the boughs of holly, fa la la la la ... Of course, it's not December in Cleveland without the Christmas Story House and the 'soft glow of electric sex' on Cleveland Street (aka West 12th). The 5K/10K run benefits the immediate neighborhood with home improvements and repairs. I always wonder - do the frontrunners take this as a *serious* race? :? Of course the fun part for spectators is the variety of costumes - the pink bunny suit is pretty commonplace, but people have a lot of fun with this. This was a first for me - not only the hubcap and lugnuts, but the "F-dash-dash-dash" word! Another first - Bumpas' dogs AND the turkey dinner! I didn't get a photo but someone dressed as 'The Theme' :-D That's it for this year's run: Next up, a few from the Cleveland Museum of Art - if you haven't checked it out, GO to the current Monet to Matisse exhibit while you still have time - worth every penny of admission (but no photography permitted). With that, there's also a Persian tent on display which is just another jawdropper: And other objects in the collection: Some twilight views of downtown: Then it was time for some low-brow entertainment - a friend generously offered us to join them in a corporate suite for a Browns game. Did I mention it was for the game against the Bengals? Ah well, it was a 'genuine' Browns experience  That pretty summed up the game: Lots of gla$$ in that lineup: Well since the view inside was gut-wrenching, let's take in the views *from* the stadium: And by the time we left, there were probably more people from Cincinnati than Cleveland - oh well, there's always next year! :drunk: Fortunately there are a few things looking up for us: And then some stuff going down (but to go up again if Duck Island keeps going at its recent pace): Just going to keep things on the lighter side for now: Decided to go off the grid and to the remote wilderness - well, okay just the Lakefront Preserve: One last sunset ... And remind me to rip down the crappy chain link fences on I-490 ;-) That's it for 2015, have a safe and happy New Year!- Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
