  1. I'm under contract to author one with Font Hill Media - hopefully in publication by the holidays this year.
  2. I'm guessing RTA places a transit police officer at either end (along with signage).
  3. Okay folks, there is now a new thread in the Architecture section to continue the ADA discussion. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,29985.msg751316/boardseen.html#new Please keep this thread on-topic and as always *think* before you post - thank you!
  4. There's this crazy thing called 'context' - the Cleveland Trust rotunda was vacant but never abandoned and left to rot like the church. It's unfortunate but that's how the former congregation and Giant Eagle let things play out.
  5. Babygonzo, welcome to the forum - I might suggest doing some research at both clevelandmemory.org and if you are able to go to the Main library downtown, check their photo collection - Stokes building, 4th floor.
  6. The downsides are the occupancy limits (1,200 people), hours of operation, the liquor license (if it's truly a conference/event center, it wouldn't need one as long as events aren't open to the general public), the closest homes are 12 feet from the building, and the planned valet parking sounds great - if it weren't for the fact Lincoln-West and West 25th will be construction zones pretty soon.
  7. ^The pushback isn't anonymous, it's from residents in the immediate area and I can hardly blame them for being wary.
  8. Are you f#cking kidding me - instead of floating the signage between the upper deck and the light posts, they jammed the Key logo right up under the lights? I thought the terrace boxes were the worst part of the renovations, but I stand corrected.
  9. Meanwhile, Stark has secured a tenant for a portion of the office component: nuCLEus project nabs Benesch law firm as first tenant By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer on April 02, 2015 at 5:00 AM, updated April 02, 2015 at 6:26 AM "CLEVELAND, Ohio - A 77-year-old law firm expects to move its offices to the proposed nuCLEus project, in a sign of early leasing momentum for the high-profile, high-reaching development. Leaders at the Benesch firm have reached an agreement with developer Stark Enterprises to occupy roughly 66,500 square feet at a new office building planned north of Quicken Loans Arena. Those offices will be part of a $430 million development that could include a 54-story tower, largely filled with apartments; a bridge-like hotel; stores; restaurants; parking garages; and outdoor spaces." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/04/nucleus_project_nabs_benesch_l.html#incart_river
  10. Off topic but at one time there *was* a Barneys New York in Tower City.
  11. "Is it bad that I had never heard of this city until I Googled it just now?"
  12. Hearing Related Cos. is involved got my attention; we've heard rumors of new-to-market investors but this is pretty big news.

I might need more details but I'll check with my contacts.
  14. Yep, one of my favorite spots in the city - can't wait until it warms up :-)

Someone recently suggested I get a Twitter account - the exchange posted is a shining example of why I don't.
  16. Fantastic set of pics, but... you didn't go *in* the Indiana World War Memorial? :| As soon as you get the chance, go back and check it out... and thank me later :-)
  17. Anything remotely associated with Tremont is politicized ;-) I wonder what it took to get residential permit parking in Little Italy. I say this because the two areas have some similarities: densely built (many homes with no off-street parking), once-ethnic focused enclaves with a mix of diehard 'old-timers' and new residents and retail/commercial businesses. As Mendo said, the restaurants/shops have a lot of influence. Also, I highly doubt the old-timers would take kindly to some 'carpetbagger' (their favorite term for someone who has lived in the area less than 50 years, haha) suggesting they pay for a parking spot that they've enjoyed for free since their family located here in 1905.
  18. The restaurant discussion posts were moved to http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=27741.70
  19. UO needs a version of the Razzies for horrid architecture. This failure in design is like the "Battlefield Earth" or "Gigli" of buildings. Good idea - maybe a statewide contest? I took photos today and yes, this building isn't just a dud, it's a steaming turd. I'm thinking this could be the inaugural Cleveland entry.
  20. Crane is about to jump - pic from the earthcam.
  21. If we had to lose the 4th floor podium balcony for the top floor bar area, I'm okay with that.
  22. From the aLoft hotel:

^ Yep, angle isn't right for Key. Also, what time of day was that - there wasn't any fog downtown during the morning rush. From today.
