Ugh, I can appreciate a more modern approach when it's done well, but these are dreadful and agreed - I thought "who knew Tremont was getting shipping container homes?". Or "does Cincinnati know someone hacked off part of their new Dunnhumby headquarters and shipped the pieces up to Cleveland?".

If someone wants to create a thread for the speculative relocation of Lakeview and replacement of Main Avenue Bridge, they are welcome to do so. However, this thread isn't the place for that discussion.

I'm usually the first to want older stock repurposed and saved because that was the impetus for people to invest in the area. This building, though - if we have to let something go in that vicinity for new construction, I can live with it. As you pointed out, it's been there for quite some time but 75 years old in this area is notable but hardly "an achievement". I live in Tremont and our home is almost 120 years old. Aside from this building's age, it's not remarkable aside from the parapet and even with that, there are finer examples in Tremont and other neighborhoods.

Agreed, the staff on opening day were helpful with every question, pointing people to open registers, etc.

Agreed, the pick your own 6-pack options aren't out of this world but very respectable and an easy fix if the demand is there. Other than that, anyone who complains about the beer/wine offerings is "looking for tits on an ant" (aka bitching just to bitch).

A new favorite lunch spot :-) Very crowded, a few first-day hiccups (a register on the fritz, etc.) but everyone took it in stride. This is an amazing asset for downtown.

Yes, just south of Sloane where Clifton takes a turn south - the school is at the corner of Northwood and Clifton.

I understand the sentiment, but like so many other places - if you want to see the neighborhood preserved as you remember it, the onus is on you to 'be the change you want to see'.

There is a 'pass through' from East Sixth where you can enter the Garfield Building on East Sixth to access the main banking hall which is in the former National City section (Guardian/New England). *Credit to ink[/member] for the clarification.

I've been critical of several of Angie's articles in the past but I think she did a good job this time around. She made her criticisms but also offered possible solutions to mitigate some of the problems. I've been saying for years the Clinic's disconnect with their "commitment to wellness" and actual business practices is laughable. I remember the self-congratulatory puffery when they eliminated the McDonald's on main campus and instituted smoking bans on employees - "look at us, we're promoting WELLNESS!!!". However, when it comes to addressing the health impacts of an autocentric/sedentary lifestyle, suddenly it's "well, we're just (insert the 'giving our customers what they want' diatribe)" and build yet another massive parking garage at main campus or 'health center' that's LEED certified. :roll: Yippee, it's LEED certified - in a vacuum. A far-flung, out of Cuyahoga County, asphalt-surrounded (former woodlands/wetlands), unreachable by transit and even if there is a transit stop, the building itself is situated so far off the road it's pointless, vacuum. Honestly, I just wish they'd have the decency to stop with the lip service. Every life deserves world class care - unless they can't drive there.
