CLEVELAND - Summer is getting Tribal, Edgy, Tasty - you name it!
Ah, summer in Cleveland - doesn't get much better for me; although a lottery ticket might be nice so I can spend all day taking pics and taking in the good weather. A random shot I've had laying around but c'mon - it's Guns N' Roses! Shuffled over to the intersection of East Ninth and Euclid ... there are days I still can't believe not just one but all of these buildings are being fixed up. After loading up on redevelopment, let's load up at Sokolowski's University Inn in Tremont - home to d@mn good Polish cooking. Pfft... take your "lite" cuisine and shove it! A plate full of buttery pockets of heaven: After rolling out of the place (we were too full to actually walk, helLO), it's off to downtown for an Indians game. Did I mention this was the same day Lebron James announced his "Reconsideration"? :-) My first job in downtown Cleveland was in the Caxton Building on Huron - I know there's an ugly parking lot and I'd love to see it developed but I have a soft spot for this view of the "Big 3". Back then, to get anywhere you had to walk through this area and something about the angle of them was kind of cool. View from our seats - again... so many years of seeing the Cleveland Trust Tower unused, threatened with demolition, and now soon to be residential/mixed use. Who'da thunk :-) Getting the field prepped: A little light early on, but the stands filled up a little more: As with most games, there are various charities/events involved - this time was The Christmas Story House, and Fisher House, located at military medical facilities and VA hospitals, where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. To our veterans and their families and loved ones, a heartfelt *thank you* for your service: Time to play ball: The game was a little sluggish at the beginning so I decided to take in the views *from* the stadium: Alright, the Indians got their act together, so let's take it back to the ballfield: Not surprisingly, the crowd went nuts when this showed up. I'm personally a mustard guy - a little bitter, but ah well - ketchup won this round: Terminal Tower, lit up in the Cavaliers' wine and gold: Terminal Tower, showing off and maybe prepping for the Gay Games? Woohoo (not Wahoo - can't say I'm a fan), the Tribe won! It's summer, it's a Tribe game, they won... and fireworks? Yay! If it weren't for some chain-link fence, jersey barriers, concrete silos, etc., this could be one of my favorite skyline views. Ah well. Time to hop out of the car and views *in* downtown: I'm not a "yeah, I'm da best photographer" type but I did like how this turned out. Gotta love an odd low-humidity day in the summer when the light's hitting from further north than usual: Love seeing the contrast between new and old - wouldn't mind if this view was blocked by a nice mixed-use project. Not my favorite building downtown but it has its moments: Federal Building reclad... sigh.... do fritted pattern windows have to look like they have condensation issues? In a year or so, this will be Cleveland's *second* tallest hotel: Speaking of, here's the progress on the Convention Center Hilton: And in case you thought East Ninth/Euclid had the monopoly on mixed-use redevelopment: All this time downtown has me feeling edgy so let's head over to Edgewater Park - holy cow, has it been improved since the Metroparks took over! Now I have a taste for something - hey, how about Taste of Tremont? This year's attendance - I've heard it was many as 40,000 people which doesn't surprise me. We walked and have never seen it this backed up on West 14th. So glad we're in walking to/stumbling from distance: Nice thing about this festival - churches and Veterans posts you can duck into for relief from the heat. This is St. John Cantius: It was a nice warm day, but when there wasn't a breeze, it got toasty - so we made our way to the southern end of Professor and over to St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral. If you're familiar with the movie 'The Deer Hunter' *this* is the church. Alright back out to the secular world, a nearby party house had a DJ (who was spinning some great music, btw) Lounge Kitty - imagine a sassy drag queen except for the "gender illusionist" part - she's all woman, absolutely hysterical and has a great set of pipes singing schmaltzy versions of your favorites. 6pm and the crowds are still going strong: We on the other hand, were ready to call it a day - hope you enjoyed!

I've posted in the Cleveland forum meet thread, feel free to respond there if you're interested: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=29053.msg717414#new- CLEVELAND - Downtown Forum Lunch Meet - July 30th or July 31st? (see last page)
Would anyone be interested in a forum meet at Pho Thang Cafe (great Vietnamese place in the Superior Building) at noon Wednesday, July 30th or Thursday, July 31st?- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
We do have a restaurant review thread, but I'll third Pho Thang. Maybe we could do a forum meetup lunch there?- Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion
I've seen plenty of advertising but I'm in the target demographic and frankly, I'm not worried about it. I know plenty of people involved in the Games, some are behind the scenes and some are participating. Mind-share? I know what you're saying but like any other group, the LGBT community in Cleveland isn't a monolith, and for that (and with apologies to Positively Cleveland) - you're welcome ;-) As far as gayborhoods, I'd say Cleveland has moved on (for better or worse); fyi, it used to be from the Gold Coast in Lakewood to Clifton/Baltic and Edgewater Park). <--- *That* is where the misnomer about *all* of Lakewood being a gayborhood came from. Sure, in the 80s - if you were LGBT and wanted to be around others, you pretty much *had* to be close to the gayborhood or you had to go out to the clubs. Then this little thing called the internet came along and then social media - suddenly, we could live anywhere and still find others like us without having to live here and go clubbing there. Just a Cleveland thing? Nope.- Cleveland: Downtown: Leader Building Redevelopment
^I was just there today and praying they stay downtown! The detail in the elevator cabs alone is outstanding.- UrbanOhio 10th Anniversary Meet & Drink!
Love ColDayMan's parasol!- Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Among the posts removed were references to Boston Commons, free wifi vs. paid wifi, Old Brooklyn wifi, 'what constitutes a personal attack', the RNC 2016 ... really folks? Are we asking too much to ask yourselves "is this post staying on topic?" and more importantly "is this post SO profound I simply MUST post it!"?- Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland

Tell me about it - I was thinking, I know there's "Christmas in July" but "April Fools in July"?!?- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Yes, a Frank Gehry designed apartment tower, 710 feet tall at 56 stories. Planned opening 2017. ;-) Or, maybe considering it's one of the most high profile sites in northeast Ohio - once plans are released, it will light this thread up like a switchboard :-)- Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
^I didn't miss anything and I applaud brilliant humor and wit of all kinds - it's just lame.- Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Nice angle Oldmanladyluck, you almost caught me taking this from ground level. Also, I didn't take a pic, but there was a flatbed truck parked on Lakeside with the next set of sheet piling.- Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
If that's what qualifies as good parody in your book, I feel sorry for you.- Have You Been a Witness to or Victim of Satanic Activity?
Pfft, as an Admin, I'm *always* seeing hellish acts on this forum!- The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
When I was interviewed for an article in the July issue of Cleveland Business Connects, one of the writer's comments was "a lot of Clevelanders think of their city as 'ahhh, pfft...' - what do you think of them?" I try not to read into things but I think they were expecting something to play into the inferiority complex. Instead, my response (which didn't make it into the article ;-) ) was something along the lines of 'I don't think about them, I don't care about them or anyone else who can't appreciate what they have. Plenty of people have bought my book, viewed my site, sent complimentary emails and my work is on a TV show every week with Betty White - am I really going worry about the opinions of some miserable idiots?' http://cbcmagazine.com/2014/06/24/etrends-website-keeps-tabs-on-cleveland-skyscrapers/- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Thank you, let's get back to actual developments. Folks, when an Admin/Mod makes a request to discontinue off-topic posts, please have the courtesy to comply.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
And with that, MyTwoSense - you are welcome (and by welcome, I mean that I strongly suggest) to follow surfohio's suggestion and use the contact info provided.- Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
I personally hope an academy of non-rocket science studies opens in the May Company building.- CLEVELAND - Only in My Dreams of Pride
I wasn't able to make it to the 10th Anniversary UrbanOhio meetup this past weekend, but I did make it to the 26th annual Cleveland Pride Festival. It was a toasty day but thanks to a constant Lake breeze, it wasn't too bad and I got to see Debbie Gibson perform a great set including a personal favorite (and I don't care if it's pop/cheesy) - 'Only in My Dreams'. Heads up for those viewing from work - there's nothing you wouldn't see at a beach, but do keep in mind there are photos of semi-dressed people. Enjoy: Over the bridge and past the skyline to Cleveland Pride we go: The first of several well-built and attractive gentlemen we saw: Burke airport was busy - not sure if the copters and planes we saw were giving aerial tours that day: Making our way there: Another well-built gentleman: Wait, what?!? Yes folks - just because it's LGBT Pride doesn't mean it's exclusionary: Not sure *what* is going on with the glass at the Rock Hall but I kind of like the Tetris/8-bit graphic thing going on: Not sure *what* is going on with this ensemble but hey - who am I to judge? Closer to the gate: A few people using the new transient marina: A few shots of the crowd as we make our way in: Not sure what would inspire people to do a cheerleading pyramid stunt... maybe practicing for the upcoming Gay Games? Whatever the case - this is Cleveland, we like things down to earth ;-) I'll shut up and let you enjoy the pics of the crowd: Okay, let's not get crazy - it's me, I have to have architectural shots! But sure enough - the DJ turned on the the "to the left, to the left, to the left" line dancing song and there was pop-up line dancing all around: The person wearing these shoes made the sensible choice to *not* participate in the line dancing. As I've always said, Cleveland's Pride is very diverse, for better and for worse - and I'm a poet and didn't know it  Again, not here to judge but some people embrace the diversity more than others ;-) With that, Debbie Gibson rocked it out and put on a great show - I sometimes get decent shots of performers but I'm kind of happy how these turned out: Of course, all good Prides must come to an end - hope you enjoyed!- UrbanOhio 10th Anniversary Meet & Drink!
Sorry I wasn't able to make it, but those who could - please post pics when you get a chance! :) - Cleveland: A Good Accountant?
