  1. Fantastic photos, thanks for posting! I remember when 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' came to Cleveland, they had to switch the show from the Palace to the State because the costumes wouldn't fit through the backstage of the Palace.
  2. Nice - we don't see a whole lot of Toledo pics, so thank you for posting these!
  3. Looking at their site, there isn't any connection. :wtf:
  4. A quick pic at lunch today.
  5. Thanks for the information - I've always said one of the forum's strengths are our members who can provide details like this.
  6. I would rather an extra minute or three be spent scrutinizing the use of taxpayer dollars, instead of full speed ahead and then "oh, well... about that little overrun...".
  7. Geez, I figured at least ONE person would have believed it! :-(
  8. Thanks everyone for the updates - it looks like a lot is going on so it's nice to see the images. For those who feel the need to slam another city with your commentary, this really isn't the place.
  9. Wow, this is pretty good news! Cuyahoga County Convention Center Hotel Expansion Stan Bulard, Northeast Ohio Media Corp. Rendering from Cooper Carry Just as equipment is drilling caissons deep into the site for the Convention Center hotel, new plans have been released showing an expanded presence in the downtown skyline. Renderings obtained by Northeast Ohio Media Corp. reveal an additional fifteen floors to the hotel’s tower component. Bonny Tewuen, public works executive for Cuyahoga County explained the expanded plans were possible due to unforeseen savings in the demolition of the former county headquarters, better than expected tax collections at the end of 2013, and additional layers of financing from public and private sources. “There were elements from the initial proposal that were eliminated due to our budget constraints but after revisiting the county’s financial situation and learning of new financing opportunities, it was determined those could be restored”, Tewuen explained. The most visible enhancement is a residential component which will occupy the upper floors of the expanded structure. In addition to private elevator banks, residents will have access to hotel amenities as well as reserved parking and views of the lake. The height of the building will be increased from 374 feet to 525 feet, just shy of the Tower at Erieview, the city’s fourth tallest tower. Jim Fulodoo of URS Corporation said “the fact we used caissons instead of a floating concrete pad allows for a taller building”. Representatives from architects Cooper Carrey stated the design of additional floors will work in concert with existing renderings. "We received a positive response from initial renderings and felt it was the right thing to do", said Tom Yee, architect. More at the following http://tinyurl.com/ljx4mtt

Quimbob, not sure if you remember a few years back, the Admins and Mods had to lock down a lot of threads and 'purge' those with full articles copied and pasted from various news sources, mostly Ohio-based newspapers. That all stemmed from a collective 'cease and desist' we (the Admins) received from the eight largest newspapers in the State of Ohio. We came to an amicable agreement that we would edit existing posts to comply with the allowed 'headline and a few sentences and direct link to the article' requirement as well as enforce posts going forward. Not surprisingly, that incident brought the forum a lot of attention from media outlets - some just to see how it played out, others became lurkers, etc. I'm all for their participation and involvement :-)
  11. I never get tired of your detailed and high quality coverage of these projects - thank you!
  12. Since it was much colder, a lot of people huddled indoors so they may not have an accurate count.

It's the Observer. There are some good people that work there but I think a few are delusional enough to think Lakewood's fortune *isn't* tied with Cleveland's.

You are welcome to discuss the sin tax, please use *this* thread for that discussion rather than create multiple threads. Thank you!
  15. ^I was wondering about that myself - I think there was a floral shop there at one point.

After watching it again, I definitely think some transit footage and shots of/from Lake Erie would be a nice addition. I also found myself wondering about those of you who are saying there's a lack of 'people of color': Do the crowd shots count? I'm guessing people of color patronize or participate in Playhouse Square, Cavs games, the Orchestra, WOW Wednesdays (fyi, those last two are in University Circle for those who think they missed the area), etc. Sure, I suppose they could use more Asian and Latino representation, but I think the saying "looking for t!ts on an ant" is applicable.
  17. Wellll, I might know someone who will try to make some semi-regular photo updates once the weather improves :-)

I've been a vocal critic of quite a few of the local marketing efforts but I think they got it right with this and it's something I plan to share with friends. "Awful, lacking diversity, lacks shots of university circle, lacking soul. Cleveland's worst enemy has always been its residence. Unfortunately, this was not a shot in the arm. By-the-way, the whole bonjovi, Bruce Springsteen rock vibe is tired. I like the others posters idea, Welcome Home or Come on home theme." Lacking diversity... I must not have seen the same video, and the same can be said for shots of University Circle. Did I click on the wrong link? I've listened to plenty of Bon Jovi and Springsteen in my day and the song I heard (which I enjoyed) has little in common. As far as the subjective intangible of 'soul' ... I think soul knows no color.

"Can anyone comment on management, safety, the neighborhood (I know Ohio City is amazing, but more substantive answers are appreciated), traffic (on days other than Saturday), etc." If you could give us a little more info on either where you're moving from or areas you like, that might help get you more detailed replies. Your commute from Ohio City to downtown via car is probably about ten minutes or less, and that's from closing the car door to walking into the office. If you need to work off-hours or weekends, it's more like five minutes. Depending on where in downtown your job is, the Rapid would be around the same but add a few minutes for walking or taking one of the free RTA Trolleys. If I was in my twenties, I'd live in the Merrill in a heartbeat - I've heard good things (albeit non-specifics) about the management company and location-wise in Ohio City, it doesn't get much better, imho.

I'll have a proper thread this weekend, but just a pic from Cleveland's St. Patrick's Day parade:
