Update, the main dome is coming down. -

This is from Saturday, they removed the cross and sphere from the main dome which is the main structural concern. Snipped a photo from the neighborhood Facebook page to show the scale just of the sphere. I’m not any expert but the way the domes were built, with wooden cores and copper sheeting, I’d have to think they acted like chimneys and generated incredible heat? Hard to tell if they’ll be able to salvage the dome but I’m sure they will rebuild. I’m the furthest from being a churchgoer but this was a gut punch to see in person.

Continuing an annual tradition - heading out on the Goodtime III on Memorial Day weekend (and in a few months, in or around Labor Day). Weather was mostly cooperative although it clouded up a bit toward the end and this time of year the sun is a bit further in the south (aka downtown is backlit when viewed from the Lake). I finally got around to upgrading from the standard/kit lens on my camera a few weeks ago so still figuring everything out there, about sixty photos in this set and part two, hope you enjoy.

Wow, going through old files and came across this doozy of a clip from early 2000s. I can't imagine what phone I was using but this shows the rickety parking garage that used to be located at St. Clair and West 6th, built around an old commercial building. Finally upgraded my camera's lens from the standard kit piece - took it over to Lake View Cemetery to take her for a spin.
Everyone has an opinion (but you know what they say about those 😆) - the building posted is the new First National Bank building in Pittsburgh. With that, here's a view from the recently reopened balcony at the James A. Garfield Monument in Lakeview Cemetery - SW does a good job filling in the skyline, here's hoping HQ2 continues that.
End of an era in Tremont - Lava Lounge is up for sale; opened in 1999 so definitely had a good run.
