Interesting tidbit about those bricks - like 800 Superior, they were installed using Sera-bond (aka crappy adhesive-like material). Not long after, every now and then a brick would pop off the facade. At some point, the bricks were re-installed using a much more hardy material - maybe that's why?

^By "wrong side of the tracks", I'm not saying 'the 'hood' - just not in the area of the nicer homes.- 2012 - Odds and Ends
^Maybe one day I will - I didn't grow up in one of the more notable homes, but not too far from them - literally on the 'wrong side of the tracks'. :-) Anyway, I added a few more images.- Season's Greetings - 2010 Additions

The Stanley Building is coming down :-\ I think most of the blame should be directed at the owners who let the building deteriorate to this extent. Stanley Block building in downtown Cleveland will be razed by the city, at $400,000 cost By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer on December 19, 2012 at 9:00 PM, updated December 19, 2012 at 9:02 PM Print CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Frustrated with the lack of repairs to the Stanley Block building, the city of Cleveland decided this week to raze the historic downtown structure -- at a cost of $400,000. Calling the building an "immediate danger to human life or health," the city's building department declared an emergency Tuesday and filed a notice with the Cleveland Housing Court on Wednesday. It's the South Lincoln Avenue Historic District in my hometown of Salem - basically a much smaller version of Euclid Avenue back in the day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Lincoln_Avenue_Historic_District_(Salem,_Ohio)- 2012 - Odds and Ends

^That was actually on Franklin (one over from Riverbed); it was the weirdest thing. Some friends and I were taking photos from the bridge by Hooples - next thing we know, here come some kids zipping down the hill on these things - one flew across Columbus Road and spun out... still not sure what it was about but it made for an interesting pic.- R.I.P.: Robert Pence
Hi everyone, first - thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts; it may not always seem like it but one of the goals of this forum is to create a sense of 'community'. It's great that Rob found a place here and that all of you came to appreciate what he brought to us with his personality and photos. We're hoping to contact Rob's family/friends and share this thread with them so they can see how many lives he touched, even though he never met some in person. Also, the Admins agree that it's only appropriate that Rob be honored for his contributions - it may take some time, so please bear with us. Thanks again.- Photoshop gems
I've made a few April Fools photoshopped pics over the years: Tower at Erieview being reclad: Forest City Enterprises - new HQ tower and facilities on the Scranton Road peninsula: New hotel at the convention center: And I can't find it but I think the one that got the most people riled up was a post I made that said Forest City was going to remove to the upper portion of the Terminal Tower due to structural deficiencies. I couldn't believe people actually took that one seriously! :-)- Cleveland: Hotel Development
Some food for thought - and let's keep subsequent posts on topic, but the story behind Baltimore's Hilton Convention Center hotel is interesting to say the least. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilton_Baltimore- Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
"What I will say is that we got an inferior design because we placed an arbitrary number on what we would spend, instead of spending what we should have to have done the project right." If I recall correctly, it was the decision of three former county commissioners that decided what would be spent. ;-)- R.I.P.: Robert Pence
I'm blessed and fortunate to have met Rob - he sent me one of his prints of the Detroit-Superior Bridge as a birthday gift a while back. This is heartbreaking news to hear.- 2012 - Odds and Ends

As it's getting colder and busier with the holidays approaching, I'm creating a thread for some pics that I've had lying around - all are northeast Ohio. Added December 18th: Added Dec. 23rd- Med Mart/Convention Center Hardhat Tour 12-12-12
I remember the old convention center and have done tradeshow work in a few shows in cities like Indianapolis, Nashville and Baltimore (peer city convention markets) and I have very good feelings about this. Thanks for posting the photos!- Cleveland: MOCA

"No thanks. The Observer is not reputable, in my opinion." Correct me if I'm wrong - is that the paper that will publish just about anything written by *anyone*?- In CLE: need advise with new business attire
I'm required to wear a suit and tie for work, if it was up to me it would be jeans/t-shirt since I don't work directly with the public. Anyway, I say this as matter of fact and not bragging (again, I *loathe* wearing a suit), but I get a *lot* of compliments on my work wardrobe. Mind you, I have pretty average proportions so I can grab something 'off the rack' and chances are the fit will be pretty close so I don't need extensive tailoring work. I'm also not working in a market like NYC (thank god) where people actually care if what you're wearing is 'this season' and judge you accordingly. That said, my suits are mostly Kenneth Cole separates from K&G in Steelyard and Perry Ellis from Macys - most I've ever paid is $150. At two years of steady wear and dry cleaning, some are starting to show some wear. Dress shirts are Geoffrey Beene or Van Heusen from Marshalls (for basic dress shirts) or the MX shirts from Express (for a more colorful/trendy look). Ties are mostly DKNY, Kenneth Cole and Ben Sherman (again, from Marshalls) and the clearance bin at Express.- Cleveland: MOCA
It's the typical drivel some Cleveland ex-pat journalists have - god forbid they produce an article that doesn't have at least a backhanded compliment or three. What was more appalling to me is that she holds degrees from Stanford and Columbia and the article reads like something out of a backwater college newsletter. - Riding the Rapid around Cleveland
