  1. This is from Parafine Avenue which is immediately adjacent; those upper floor offices/units will have fantastic un-impeded views :-)
  2. Nice - quite a few Dutch Colonials.
  3. Clueless, thanks for keeping us updated on the progress at street level - much appreciated!

"Top Opportunity"? For what? Have the people who make these designations ever been here? Don't get me wrong - especially when it comes to my hometown and surrounding areas, I almost always side with preservation/restoration but seriously. The photos you posted are great, they do a great job of showing the architectural and historical significance but they don't exactly show the true context - I'm not suggesting that was done intentionally. Sure, the buildings are historic and have some interesting elements but where they're sited? It's not as though they'd be candidates for a B&B conversion - they're not exactly convenient to the greenway trail that's referenced on the Heritage Ohio site, but they're very convenient to something else: They're a softball throw from the razor wire surrounding the county jail in an area that's completely devoid of walkable amenities - it's a little more than charitable to say they're a "Top Opportunity" for anything beyond administrative offices for the jail. That said, I would love nothing more than for someone to prove me wrong on this.

^X, your first round is on me, you've done a hell of a job here.
  6. Let's see... where to find a good spot in the city to take photos of fall color in the morning... of course, Lake View Cemetery! Okay, I may have taken photos of things other than leaves and trees  I'll add captions later. From the Garfield Monument balcony. One day, I'd like to take shots from here right at sunrise but I had to make do with 9:05am: The monument volunteer raising the flag: Back down to ground level: The local tradition is to leave a coin on Rockefeller's headstone for financial luck - looks like a lot of people are hoping for that :-) One of my favorite memorials in Lake View, the Charles Brush burial site: The Garfield Monument from ground level: Tippy-top of the Garfield Monument - never realized they had gargoyles at the very top! Wade Chapel - exterior is Greek Revival, designed by Hubbell and Benes who designed other Cleveland landmarks (West Side Market and Cleveland Museum of Art); interior is one of the few remaining interiors designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his studio: Adjacent to Wade Chapel: The crypt on the left is that of Levi Schofield, architect who designed the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and the Schofield Building on the southwestern corner of East 9th and Euclid: Cleveland doesn't have many Egyptian Revival examples, but there are a few here and there: This dam is no longer in use: One of the smaller but most iconic memorials in Lake View Cemetery, the Haserot Angel: What's a thread about autumn/fall in Cleveland without a woolybear? :-) Hope you enjoyed!

^There's a law firm at the very top and then the Key executive offices take up the rest to 53, and yeah they're decked out with much more flattering lighting than those in the cube farms on lower floors. Nice shots Mov2Ohio!

Would Sunday, October 28th at 1:00pm at Hooples (1930 Columbus Road) work for anyone?
  9. The Shoreway Conversion and 'Sim City' posts have been removed; this thread is for discussion of *actual* construction (or at the very least, serious proposals) in Cudell/West Boulevard. If you want to create a thread about "Ideas to Improve Cudell/West Blvd", start one in the City Discussions section. For those of you who have previously received warnings about taking threads off-topic, you're on thin ice. The holidays are approaching and my Mods would love to not have to spend every other minute pruning threads that have gone off-topic. Think before you post.
  10. Not here. Maybe start a thread in General Discussions? It's great material, but it's off topic here.
  11. With that, let's keep this thread for discussion of actual construction and development.
  12. Folks, take it to PM.
  13. CSU fielding a football team? CSU developing a fraternity/sorority community? Mob bosses being blown up in movies filmed in Detroit but set in Cleveland? There might be a thread for those discussions, but it's NOT here!
  14. The Leader Building in downtown Cleveland will be offered for sale in November online auction Published: Friday, October 12, 2012, 6:00 PM Updated: Friday, October 12, 2012, 6:01 PM By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Another downtown Cleveland office building is hitting the auction block. A listing for the Leader Building, a near-century-old structure at Superior Avenue and East Sixth Street, popped up this week on the Auction.com website. The bidding, starting at $2 million, will run from Nov. 13th to 15th. The 16-story building, constructed in 1913 for the Cleveland Leader newspaper, sits on a block where several properties have changed hands. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/10/the_leader_building_in_downtow.html
  15. "Not the discussion for this thread though." Thank you - for those who want to speculate about how they would have spent the money raised for the CC/MM, start your own blog.
  16. ^I'd say that's a great way to wrap up this thread. Folks, you don't have to like the Admins and Mods and if you disagree with how something is handled, you're free to send a private message. If you decide that you'd rather blatantly disrespect them, or decide to add a 'peanut gallery' comment to someone else's blatantly disrespectful comment - you will have some time off.
  17. ^It's an Edward Durell Stone-designed building; while it's not my favorite building, demolition would be a crime.
  18. I'll remind everyone - especially newcomers, that this entire section of threads is offered as a courtesy, for forumers to have civil discussions and that participation on UrbanOhio.com forums is a privilege, not a right.
  19. Yeah, it's a bittersweet moment; hopefully we won't have to wait as long for the next tower crane to pop up :-)

"So what's in everyone's ideal news feed?" Photos of special events are great, but preferably taken with something other than the typical smartphone. For god's sake, we now have a majority of the populace who think grainy and poorly lit images are fine, that people having eyes that glow like a raccoon in headlights is perfectly okay, and that applying some wackadoodle sepia/insta filter makes their image profound.
  21. "I am having a little bit of difficulty though with the worry about the Mitchell's ice cream cups/spoons." Agreed - it's not something you *hope* to see but "When you leave New York, you are astonished at how clean the rest of the world is. Clean is not enough." - Fran Lebowitz
  22. ^I was wondering the same thing; great shots as always, Clueless - thanks for posting!
  23. ^I don't use it but I've heard good things about it - from what I can tell, it works as a lighter version of Adobe Bridge and Photoshop Elements.
