UrbanOhio - CLEVELAND meetups
This is a great idea - it's been a while since we've had a group outing. Stone Mad's a nice spot for it too.

- If you could relocate away from Ohio tomorrow...
"*And I'm thinking American cities here. Of course we'd all love to move to some exotic location far away, but purely from a quality of life and urban amenities standpoint, what cities peak your interest? Honolulu, specifically the areas east of the zoo and south of Diamondhead, presuming we're talking money is no object. In all seriousness (and a little 'suspension of disbelief' when it comes to sticker shock), it was the first and so far only place that's made me say "okay, I could leave Cleveland for this".- Meanest Man contest between the 50 states: Where does Ohio place?
I'd say locking this thread since it really belongs in the "Off Topic" thread is pretty mean :whip:- Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I used it last week and it worked like a charm (on the home desktop, haven't used it on a mobile device) - took a little time for the route map to load.- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^I think Bistro on Lincoln Park had great food... when you could get it. The biggest problem IMHO was the service - once we went there when it was newer, thinking "hey a nice place with several beers on tap worth mentioning!" - they were out of all but one. Then there were the times we tried to stop in for lunch - place was open, door was open, tables were set - there just wasn't a soul to be found. Not a host, not a server, not a bartender... we could have walked off with everything but just walked out :wtf:- Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Okay folks, enough with the snarky tone - legitimate criticisms and questions are one thing but there's a limit.- Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Not a surprise given the experiences I've had there, but Bistro on Lincoln Park in Tremont is closed. I think that space has been cursed ever since Miracles closed.- Ways Ohio can become a high growth state.
I believe the phrase kids are using now is "SMDH"?- Edgewater Park and view from Whiskey Island - Night
Very nice - love the Ernst and Young Tower at night!- Cleveland: June 2012 Randomness
Nice shots, thanks for posting them!- CLEVELAND - G3: Going to work, Gordon Square and GIFT Cruise
Okay, so I put a few pics together since they wouldn't fit anywhere else. Anyhoo - a handful of shots from the morning commute, then some from Gordon Square (Detroit-Shoreway) and then the annual GIFT Cruise on the Goodtime III. This was a great weekend for pics :-) I hate the morning commute, but this takes the edge off significantly :-) I *still* keep thinking that Thor, Captain America and company are going to be flying around here :-D Anyway, onto Gordon Square - en route we pass Lorain Avenue, the main drag of Ohio City: Some nice old gems in Ohio City: And some in need of signifcant polish :| Unfortunately due to time constraints, we didn't get to check out the events for the Weapons of Mass Creation event; really wish we had time. Even so, there was plenty going on - Food Network was in town filming a food truck show episode. They were parked outside the Happy Dog - a spot that's very popular with hipsters; I felt a little under-tattooed, under-facial haired, under-wearing dark jeans in 80+ temps but it was all good. A big part of the area's charm (IMHO) are the interesting historic commercial buildings: And the quirky businesses: The area was recently redeveloped with new bus shelters, pavers, and other accoutrements. I'm one of the biggest advocates for public art but I still question spending $50K for this fence that's already showing rust: One of the area's landmarks, a former Orthodox church: The main intersection at West 65th and Detroit: Retailers in the area include modern furniture/furnishing spots like DuoHome: And a newer spot next door that specializes in vintage pieces: For a relatively small area, Gordon Square has some interesting architectural diversity - from neo-classical to Tudor-esque, to modern, you name it: Saw this in a storefront - these were part of the cornice of the Engineers Building (demolished to make way for the Marriott at Key Center): Back toward West 65th and Detroit: Off to the next segment: En route to the GIFT Cruise on the Goodtime III: It's a goofy caddywhumpus angle but for some reason I like this view of the skyline: A quick refresher, the GIFT Cruise is a fundraiser for the local chapter of international gay bowling leagues. I attend because 1. I always get some good photos and 2. I'm happy to contribute to their efforts. Here we are, at the Goodtime III: Kodak view: Other boaters were out and about: Construction of the Medical Mart: You're welcome, gentlemen :-D The Federal Building is getting a new "facade" enclosed in glass; figured this might be the last time to get this shot: Runways of Burke Lakefront Airport and the highrises of Bratenahl in the background: Cleveland City Hall: We finally set sail: Gulls convening at the port - the screeching sounded like a damn Justin Bieber concert! Ernst and Young Tower under construction at Flats East Bank: And after a train crosses the lift bridge, we make our way up and down the Cuyahoga - you know the drill :-) And we finish with what has to be one of the best sunsets I've ever seen over Lake Erie: Hope you enjoyed :-)- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
A few photos from out on the water:- Ohio Highway Patrol
Problem solved: http://www.speedtrap.org/state/36/Ohio And since the good folks at UrbanOhio don't have a direct say in how speed limits are enforced at a state or municipal level; this thread's premise (and misspelled subject line) are best suited for another forum.- Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Folks, a little less Buckhead and a little more Downtown Cleveland Office Development news. Thanks!- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
- The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
^I absolutely love (and can completely relate to) this quote from the article. ""Rust Belt Chic" -- "about home, or that perpetual inner fire of longing to be comfortable in one's own skin and one's community. Yet this longing is less about regressing to the past than it is finding a future through [one's] history.""- Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
I thought the preferred term was 'crunchy'? ;-) I went to Kent State, so I've seen my share of tie-dye, patchouli, caucasian dreadlocks, jam bands, people having happy lettuce-inspired epiphanies, etc. - I'm more than happy to let others enjoy it on my behalf :-)- Fleet Week
Great set of pics, thanks for posting!- Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Not sure if it would be my cup of tea, but it looks like a great turnout and a good time - thanks for the pics!- Cleveland: Calfee Building (Rockwell and East 6th)
I'm so happy to see how that turned out - great pics!- CLEVELAND - One weekend
Just some of the usual spots, plus a visit to the Asian Festival - captions to come later. Progressive Field, with the new wind turbine in place (makes me think of soft-serve ice cream!) Standard shot from the West Bank of the Flats: Detroit-Superior Bridge: That tower thingymajig: Ooo, a zeppelin!!! (Yes, I know it's a blimp!) Jackknife bridge in the background - I want one in my backyard! Ernst and Young tower going up in the Flats East Bank project: Federal Courthouse Tower (aka not the one being reclad - that's on East 9th Street): At one point, the Powerhouse was abandoned, now it's home to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium: Gotta wonder how noisy it gets for the folks on that side of National Terminal apartments: Center Street swing bridge, swinging its thing... err... doing its swing thing? Stonebridge Plaza from the Superior Viaduct: Look out!!!!! Over to Cliff Drive on the West side: From the soapbox derby drive: En route to the Asian Festival: A brief stop at the Asian Festival (in Asiatown, no less): Leaving the Asian Festival, heading to Ohio City: We haven't completely forgot the Asian Festival! :-D- Cleveland: Downtown: A.J. Celebrezze Federal Building Renovation
^Because that's the Federal Courthouse Tower, not the A.J. Celebrezze Federal Building - which happens to be the topic of this thread. :-)- Cleveland: Flats East Bank
From the West Bank of the Flats: From Cliff Drive, west of Edgewater Park: - If you could relocate away from Ohio tomorrow...
