Spectacular, I wish there were firehouses in this area of this style and age.

I like the old firehouse - especially the graphics on the side of the building.

Cincinnati: Historic Photos
Looking west along 2nd Street during the construction of Riverfront Stadium. As early in the process as this is I would think it is 1968. If someone can give me a better idea of the time. please post a comment!

Cincinnati: Historic Photos
This is the northwest corner of 5th & Race. The photo was taken shortly before demolition of the buildings began. On the left is the Stouffer's hotel which opened in 1968 so my guess is that this photo was taken in 1967. Dunnhumby USA is currently building their U.S. headquarters on this site. Looking north on Race Street is the Terrace Hilton.

As a child my family lived in Bond Hill. It was about as middle class as you could probably find. The houses in the neighborhood had been built between the late 1800's and the 1960's. I was always fond of these Tudor style homes that were all over the neighborhood.

Ghost Signs - Brick Walls Signs
This wall certainly was popular over the years. Abromson Quality Coal, Mail Pouch Tobacco, Colonial Bread, and Coca Cola all decided that this was a nice place to advertise. Coke is being sold in a six pack of 12 ounce bottles. Those 12's are KING size! the colors on the Colonial Bread ad really look nice to me. I photographed this sign almost 25 years ago. The next time I drove through Portland. Imdiana the wall had been painted. The visit after that and the building was gone.

Gas Stations - Old Photos
Harmon Texaco - Harve MT Junction Highways 2 & 87 Products include diesel, gas, propane, and nitrogen. Classic looking 24-hour truck stop and diner (the 2-87 cafe). There's at least one pump dispensing Texaco Diesel Chief. Sure have gotten to the point where I miss seeing phone booths!

Great looking posed photo takenat The Chalet. Besides the 3 pumps dispensing Tydol products there are oil bottles to be seen, a Bell Telephone porcelain sign, a travel trailer, and even the family dog in this wonderful image.

The Decline of Shopping Malls
My guess is that shopping malls are closing because the mall walkers (those older folks with lots of disposable income) have moved on to other places, too much turboing by others got really annoying.

Cincinnati OH - Engine 12 2942 Colerain Avenue in Camp Washington This station is still standing. The house was active from 1876 to 1976. I took this photo in the summer of 1974.

Covington KY - Hose 3 12th Street between Madison Ave. and Scott Blvd. Constructed 1894 This station was located just south of the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Unfortunately the building was torn down in the early 1980's.

Fire Stations
As beautiful as some of the FDNY stations are that you have posted, I wonder what people will think of this style of building in another 50 years? Will it be considered a classic by then?

Fire Stations
They put quite a lot of effort into getting that building to look that way. It is spectacular. I don't care where the fire station is - I just like seeing pictures of them.

I keep looking at this and I think it may be across the street from University. I believe this is the southeast corner at Reading & Lincoln where the Sears store was. There is a slight downhill slope to the street that is on Lincoln Ave. For those of you not familiar with Cincinnati, University Avenue and Lincoln Avenue meet at Reading Road. Same street, just a different name going east (Lincoln) or west (University). Great photo!

The doors don't bother me, the wood railings I could do without. I moved around a bit, but there just wasn't any escaping them.

Gas Stations - Old Photos
Stuckey's were all over the South. When I was a kid in the 1960's it seemed that there was a Stuckey's at every major intersection or interstate exit. Most seemed to have Texaco gasoline. They were always so neat and clean looking. I don't ever recall trying a praline or pecan roll. Anyone ever stop in at one of these?

This apartment building in Price Hill has always appealed to me. It just has an interesting look and I would really enjoy sitting on one of those porches some evening. This section of Ross Avenue between Warsaw and Glenway Avenues still has brick pavers. The entrances have the names "Alma" and "Richter" above the doorways. I wonder if Alma Richter was someone who was special to the person who had this place built?

Lima Revisted
Terrific photos as always. It's been several years since I was in Lima and I think your pictures summed up the town perfectly. Find somewhere else to be (the locals seem to have figured it out). Although there are still several industries with decent enough paying jobs like P&G, Ford, BP and JSMC (Army tank plant) in the area, I don't think that any of those places are located in the city limits so no tax $$ for Lima. Also, something astounding must have happened in Jackson. I believe I was last there in 2010 and all I could think of was how much it made me want to be in Lima.

Fire Stations
Covington KY - Engine 6 (Pumper 6) 1504 Holman Street Constructed in 1906. The firehouse had seen a lot of use by the time I took this photo. The station and the buildings to the left, to the corner of 15th Street, were torn down and a new firehouse was built on the same site in 1983. It's unfortunate that this place had to go as I really liked the look of the building. I want to erase that air conditioner from my picture.... The original image on the ever-changing Flickr site:
