Fire Stations
I had planned on doing that, but my brain just wouldn't let me type the information. I edited a couple of the photo captions with that information. Nothing in my notes that has the date of the Stuebenville house.

Gas Stations - Old Photos
Cannon Gas & Oil - Pottsville PA Located at South Centre & Morris Streets this attractive station had 3 pumps dispensing Tydol products. Although it looks a lot different, this building is still there. The north side of the structure with the rock wall is visible on Google Earth. More to see on Flickr:

Fire Stations
Located at the intersection of Altamont & Parkway in West Covington, this single bay house is home to CFD Pumper 2. Although the lettering over the door reads "ENG", companies in Covington have been referred to as Pumpers and not Engines for as long as I can remember. This station is located just off of Route 8 not far from Ludlow and Devou Park. Want to see a larger version? Update: This firehouse was constructed in 1938.

New Philadelphia, Ohio: Seat of Tuscarawas County
Sure do like the "Welcome to our City" sign. Did you happen to be around at night and get a photo (assuming it is working)?

Steubenville Revisited
Always enjoy your photos Ink. I've been through Stuebenville a few times and I like the town. There is something about these cities that grew rapidly but never really became large. They have a few tall buildings but the new construction seems to have stopped before WWII. Like so much of America it's a shame to see that so much of Downtown is vacant and as I recall quite a bit has been torn down.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: A look back, are we better off today?
You couldn't have put it much better than that. The new FS design entices people to get out of their vehicles and be engaged on the public square. Aside from the extra retail, events and video board...the actual design encourages increased activity as well. I agree with the comments above, that being said I greatly preferred the island down the middle of 5th Street that I remember from the 1960's. I really think the city of Cincinnati blew it when they allowed the 5th/3rd building to be constructed where it is. A lovely public park in the middle of Downtown was destroyed for the sake of a rather plain high rise.

Fire Stations
I occasionally see a firehouse or two in some of the city threads posted, but I would like to see them gathered in one spot. I don't care where the building is or what it looks like - an active or inactive station (although my preference is the old ones). So please post away. The large view is here: Forgot the rest of the caption when I posted this! Here goes: Cincinnati, Ohio - This station is located at 3120 Warsaw Avenue in Price Hill. It was the quarters of Engine 24 and Ladder 10 from 1890 until 1940 when they moved to their current station.

Augusta,GA: Feel the funk
Augusta has a nice appearance. The Laney Walker project looks terrific, I want to move there now! Really enjoyed the photos.

R.I.P.: Robert Pence
I haven't been visiting this board very often over the last couple of years. Tonight I thought I would look and see what Mr. Pence had been up to as I always enjoyed his photos and comments. For someone that I had never met and had only exchanged a few e-mails with, I feel a real sense of loss with his passing. Obviously he made a good impression here and in the world. He will certainly be missed.

Gas Stations - Old Photos
Jahe-Marys Place has Fine Food - Beer - Gas - Cabins. Looks like they're selling Sky Chief and Fire Chief from the pumps. This place was located on US 20 just 5 miles east of Painesville. Bigger sizes to be seen at:

Grafius & Court Streets: Digging into Williamsport’s disappearing neighborhoods

What's left of a nice gas station. That particular Fire Chief sign on the left pump and the Texaco Ethyl pump globe on the right are hard to find. Wish I had them...

Ghost Signs - Brick Walls Signs
Nicely preserved Gold Medal flour wall sign at West Mansfield, Ohio. There were a couple of other signs painted on this wall but I couldn't make out the wording excpt for "Beers". For the big picture, go here:

Gas Stations - Old Photos
The Log Cabin Inn sold Socony (Standard Oil Company of New York) from this quaint looking building. E.L. Dunn was the proprietor. A nice set of glass oil bottles is at the ready next to the classic gas pump. There are a couple of Fro - Joy ice cream signs showing along with a sign for Chicken Dinner which was a candy bar made by the Sperry Candy Co. of Milwaukee. Gas Stations - Old Photos
Bring out your dead. That would be this topic. I haven't been doing much posting here the last couple of years but hopefully that will change.... The Star Service Station and Sandwich Shop was located aong U.S. 85 in Hatch, New Mexico. The nicely decorated station was painted in a desert theme that I would imagine would match the surrounding area. Texaco products were sold here and the familiar Fire Chief and Sky Chief signs can be seen on the visible pumps. It looks like there is a locomotive to the right of the station! Cincinnati: Historic Photos
There are a few buildings along Dalton Street and Hopkins that are still around from the time of this photo, but very few. Some of the buildings between Freeman and Dalton in the area of the Enquirer printing plant made it until 1983 (pretty sure that's right, it may have been '84) before they were demolished. Back then they were run down and deserted and hardly anyone cared. I think the demolition of the West End may have been the biggest blunder that the City ever made....
