  1. From Twitter: Streetcar mgr: Feds have put streetcar money on hold, waiting to see what city council does. @Local12
  2. ^ Absolutely nothing. Arguing about legality of the meeting without rules. Seelbach proposed delaying the meeting until later in the week in order to be able to read and digest the ordinances. Motion denied 5-4. Now adjourned until 1:00, when the ordinances should be finished. Ugh.
  3. Wow! I was surprised by PG's announcement, but this is shocking! Common sense may yet prevail.
  4. Fantastically scathing post on CityBeat, regarding the Enquirer's "story" on streetcar construction costing $50,000/day. (Hint, they divided the long-known $1.5 million/month figure by 30 days). A must read. http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-5277-how_the_enquirer_got_today%E2%80%99s_anti_streetcar_story.html
  5. I believe the reason Cranley wants to find another way to hold a vote, rather than a referendum, is because construction would have to continue for the months before the election.
  6. Good article by German Lopez at City Beat laying out the pros and cons of cancellation. I found some optimism in this passage: “For me, there are a huge number of unanswered questions, so I think the only thoughtful, fair, cool-headed thing to do is get all the information on the table. Spell out exactly what it would look like to unravel the project,” Sittenfeld says. “It’s not just about the balance sheet; it’s also about what is the return of investment. I will take that into consideration as well.” That last sentence is BIG. I haven't heard any council members mention the ROI yet. I've never been a fan of Sittenfeld's, but I hope he will be reasonable on this issue... http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/article-29055-halting_progress.html
  7. Yeah, I realize that. I guess it's foolish of me to expect a little accountability and common sense from a paper with such an obvious political agenda...
  8. Remember in the same breath, when they said Cranley's ego could create the same problem? I just don't understand why they endorsed him...
  9. It seems odd that the Enquirer would endorse Cranley and then criticize him for falling through in campaign promises. Their "endorsement" was a joke. They endorsed Cranley while saying that they had serious reservations about his plans for stopping the parking plan and the streetcar. So, they endorsed the candidate who campaigned on two issues, while saying they didn't agree with the two issues he campaigned on. A new low for the Enquirer. I think I'm more angry at that paper than anyone else for the results of this election. I used to still go to their website only to read John Fay's Reds coverage. I'm not even going to do that anymore.
  10. In Cranley's press conference the day after the election, he said that he would look at the costs of canceling the streetcar, and if they found it to be cheaper to finish than cancel then the would finish it. Then he went on to say something about also having to look at the costs of the Uptown connector. I get the feeling that no matter what numbers are thrown at him, he will find a way to keep inflating the "final" cost in order to cancel the project. It seems like it will be a difficult task to try to convince PG and Mann to support the project, based on their recent comments, but it's definitely worth a shot...
  11. Sorry if this has already been posted, but it's a good article on where we go from here: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2013/11/dont-expect-cranley-to-break-his.html?page=all
  12. Save the Streetcar page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/SaveStreetcar
  13. Hahaha!!!
  14. ^ That is a much better interpretation. Let's go with that ;)
  15. It is confusing, but the way I see it, this is about Cranley going to Washington to try to get the administration to let him use the FEDERAL funding for other projects. I think the $52 million in state funding is long gone, and there's no hope for any of that money coming back for any project. I could definitely be wrong, however.
  16. Wow. That would be huge. This article has been updated. It now reads: "A day after mayor-elect John Cranley reiterated his biggest election promise, to stop the streetcar project, received a possible offer that might give the city more cash. Valerie Jarrett, senior advisor to President Barack Obama invited Cranley to Washington DC to discuss reprogramming $44M in streetcar grants, according WCPO's Kevin Osborne. Those grants were originally earmarked for only the streetcar and turned down by Ohio Gov. John Kasich in 2011."
  17. Construction to continue as scheduled for the time being: http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-5228-streetcars_fate_still_unknown.html
  18. So, Cranley is supposedly holding a press conference at 2:30 today. If anyone has the intestinal fortitude to listen to whatever spews out of his mouth, could you post a summary on here?
  19. Good quote from the Business Courier: "The election presented a clear choice. Those who hoped Cincinnati was in the process of transforming into a city with much bigger ambitions, that it would become something other than America’s biggest small town, lost. " Time to welcome back the do-nothing 'Old Guard' in Cincinnati... Ugh... This is disastrous. I really thought this city had turned a corner. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2013/11/05/cranley-cruised-to-victory-because.html?page=2
  20. ^ There. Fixed it for ya ;)
  21. I'm hearing turnout is better than expected so far. Good news, I think. Glad the weather is perfect today.
  22. Tweets from Kevin Osborne: "In Cincinnati's early voting, 66% of people who've voted are age 60 or older." "In Cincinnati's early voting, 21% of people who've voted are ages 45-59" I don't take this as a good sign...
  23. Big day today. I'm very nervous about the outcome...
  24. Ok. I must be looking at the wrong article then, but I don't see another, except for yesterday's article on better transportation options. Can you post a link?
  25. The article up this morning "Could a Mayor Cranley still kill the streetcar" is for subscribers only, unfortunately. Is this the article with costs, etc? If so, could someone post the relevant figures? http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/print-edition/2013/11/01/could-a-mayor-cranley-still-kill-the.html
