  1. Husted introduces renewable energy legislation Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 2:41 PM EST Dayton Business Journal Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted, R-Kettering, introduced a two-part proposal to focus on renewable energy benchmarks for Ohio and reinvestments in the advanced energy sector of the state's economy Thursday. The package will be sponsored by state Rep. Jim McGregor, R-Gahanna. "In the past renewable energy was only an environmental issue," Husted said. "Today we are committing to a strategy that will make renewable energy both an economic and environmental winner for Ohio." Under the advanced energy portfolio, by 2025, 25 percent of the electricity supplied by electric service providers is required to come from renewable and advanced energy. Best cars for city dwellers? Streetcars of course...
  3. EDIT: I'm not from Cincinnati but I will say that it kicks the arse of both Indianapolis and Columbus. ^TRUE STATEMENT. Cincinnati has an authentic urban feel to it that I believe Columbus and Indy lack, regardless of how many people live in their MSAs.
  4. At least the streetcar hasn't been killed yet. I know that Dayton has a long history with streetcar plans and our electric bus system. The city et. al. considered linking our aviation heritage sites with downtown but with more research it seems smartest to link our downtown/Oregon District to the University of Dayton neighborhood. Perhaps Downtown to Uptown should be embraced and patience should be practiced for OTR. Getting it in OTR right now might be a homerun, but from experience I can attest that it's smarter and better to get a few singles and doubles along the way.
  5. Thanks. After looking at the photo a little closer, I really like the mix of dark buildings on the right in front of the bright sky and then the gradual increase in buildings that reflect the light in front of the darkening of the sky.
  6. I took this photo September 15, 2007.
  7. ^ constant wind, sandy surface
  8. I like this thread because Ohio has done more to change the world than almost (maybe every) other state. Wright brothers, Edison, Patterson's ideas of business and progressive welfare
  9. Too bad there isn't an international airport between Dayton/Cincinnati like former Dayton mayor R. William Patterson wanted. From the front page of the June 20, 1995 Dayton Daily News reporting his death: R. William Patterson, former Dayton mayor who waged an unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Congress in the 1960s, died Sunday at age 86. Mr. Patterson, an attorney, served as Dayton's mayor from 1958 to 1961. He was active in civic affairs throughout his career. In the early 1970s he headed a charter review committee to overhaul the city's charter. A graduate of Georgetown University, Mr. Patterson practiced law until eight years ago, said his son, Ryan Patterson. Mr. Patterson's law offices were in the Reibold Building for 40 years. Mr. Patterson's wife, Virginia, a former Hollywood actress and Dayton radio and television personality, died in 1990. James Sullivan, active in the local Democratic Party for many years, served as Mr. Patterson's campaign manager for mayor and the U.S. Senate. He remembers Mr. Patterson as a man of honor who always tried to do the right thing, even if it cost him political support. ``He didn't play the (political) game with the boys,'' Sullivan said. ``That's why he only served one term as mayor.'' Mr. Patterson is credited with providing strong leadership that helped ensure that Interstate 75 came through Dayton, Sullivan said. Perhaps his greatest vision was his dream of having a regional airport constructed between Dayton and Cincinnati. It was a dream that never materialized.

If making things sexy sells products, why don't we make our cities sexy?
  11. Someone needs to explain that rail would pay for itself many times over and strengthen our cities and state. It's not just moving people and stuff, it's the economy...stupid.
  12. So glad to come across this article. Thanks for posting.
  13. This thread captures the OTR feeling better than most. Great pics.
  14. That comment is disgusting by the way. Also, I just checked and the email address associated with that comment is "[email protected]" Ridiculous and revolting.
  15. THAT is NOT me! I don't know what else to say. I didn't even read the entire comment before I scrolled down here to deny it. I don't know how to prove it but I promise that isn't me. I have banned someone from posting on my blog who goes by the name of "Papa Ubu" who is listed above as well. He mentions Bill Pote from DaytonMostMetro and I have talked with Bill who has also had to ban the individual. Again, someone is using the name of my blog and urbanohio username that is NOT me.
  16. Any news on this? EDIT** What are the other housing options on/very close to Fountain Square? I was surprised to see myfountainsquare.com didn't have links to the neighborhood...
  17. ^Didn't know Oakwood had any all steel homes...let alone from '37! Great pics.
