WSJ: "The Self-Inflicted Economic Death of Ohio"
Read the following article in its entirety before passing judgment. The Self-Inflicted Economic Death of Ohio By CHESTER E. FINN JR. June 28, 2008; Page A9 Wall Street Journal Once known as the Mother of Presidents, Ohio is now getting poorer, older and dumber – and making all the wrong moves to reverse the situation. And that may actually be a plus for Barack Obama. His party is finding that lofty, vague promises of change combined with high-spending, high-tax, welfare state-ish policies are a political winner in the state. How else to explain why Gov. Ted Strickland's approval ratings are in the mid-50s or why Democrats may even win control of the state House for the first time in 14 years? Mr. Finn, a native of Dayton, Ohio, is president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute.

Dayton: University of Dayton / University Park: Development and News
Dayton plans to spruce up Brown Street near Miami Valley Hospital and UD Dayton Daily News By Joanne Huist Smith Wednesday, June 25, 2008 DAYTON — The city of Dayton plans to spruce up the Brown Street corridor between Apple Street and Irving Avenue when federal funds become available in 2011. The project will basically improve the area between Miami Valley Hospital and the Oakwood city limits near the University of Dayton Campus. The enhancement project has not been fully defined, but will likely include new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and benches, Steve Finke, the city's assistant director of public works, said. The Dayton City Commission, on Wednesday, June 25, passed an ordinance agreeing to participate in the project with the Ohio Department of Transportation. The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, on March 17, approved the city's request for $281,600 in regionally controlled funds for the work.

Cincinnati: Mt. Adams: Cincinnati Art Museum
This could be sweet. The art museum is currently very attractive. I hope Cincinnati doesn't get screwed with something like the images posted above. The "tulip-shaped tower" could be great. I can't wait to see renderings.

Monroe: Cincinnati Premium Outlet
^yeah, I agree with you there. The brands will be premium but the buildings will probably look just like what you posted above...empty warehouses for cheap "premium" brands.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
The buildings aren't hideous. What really matters is who occupies them and what do they bring to downtown. If it's a viable, vibrant, urban neighborhood then it doesn't matter if they look like shoeboxes, you'll get a great city. I'd take that over a flying wing that will be forgotten by the superficial media 10 years from now.
