Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and a few from Vegas
^Vegas is Vegas. I think it being a "nightmare" would make it a great place for Planners to visit. The 2008 APA conference is in Vegas in a few months. I see a lot of great challenges that Planners will have to face with a city like that, thats why I think it would be every planners perfect project.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: Old St. George Redevelopment
Light bulb started church fire BY JENNIFER BAKER | [email protected] CLIFTON HEIGHTS – A light bulb that was too close to combustible material sparked the fire at Old St. George Church Feb. 1, a fire official said this morning. The announcement was made by Cincinnati Fire Captain Dan Rottmueller, commander of the city’s fire investigation unit. Most of the damage was contained to the steeples, which crashed to the ground during the fire. The building, no longer regularly used as a church, suffered water damage but is overall repairable, he has said. There were areas of standing water in the basement and wet carpets. Clifton Heights Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHCURC), community group, owns the church and is working to save it.

Any news on The Banks? It has been quite awhile since I've heard anything about it. Does anyone have any info?

Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and a few from Vegas
I had about 50 or so pictures from Vegas when I went. I had to reformat my laptop, forgot to back up all my pictures onto my external :bang:. Needless to say, I lost about 4 gigs of pictures. Vegas, St. Louis, Lake Cumberland and my college life. I love Vegas. Greatest city in the world. It is an Urban Planners ultimate dream. So much potential with this city. aaaahhhhhggggg (Homer Simpson drool)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Question(s)... While I haven't read all 97 pages on this thread, who is going to run the streetcars? SORTA? Has this been discussed yet? How will TANK try to use the streetcar? How will this effect (or is it affect, I never know) the Metro? Does this mean an increase in fair prices for Metro? Will Government Square eventually be used for streetcar purposes? Maybe I am thinking a little too forward, but I don't know the answers to these questions. I haven't seen anything that addresses the questions either. Any insight from anyone? Thanks

Florida: New MLB Stadiums
New Marlins ballpark is terrible for area fans By Ray McNulty Sunday, February 24, 2008 Four years from now, they'll be called the Miami Marlins. And that's fitting. Because when the Marlins move into their new $515 million, 37,000-seat, retractable-roof ballpark in 2011 -- the Miami-Dade County Commission unanimously approved the plan last week -- they will no longer be Florida's team. Not any part of Florida north of Boca, anyway. Not if they're playing on the site of the soon-to-be leveled Orange Bowl. That's too far away and too tough to get to for most folks living in Palm Beach County and along the Treasure Coast. Especially us working stiffs. Especially on weeknights. Guess I need to stop skimming. Apologies.

Florida: New MLB Stadiums
^Hogwash. A new ballpark does not mean a better team. The Yankees have been in Yankee Stadium for almost 100 years. They have won over 25 World Series Titles, so according to that article, they should even improve on those past numbers. Come on now, ah, people speculate too much. Let's build the Reds a new stadium to get 4 more wins in every season. They will just build their way into the playoffs. Sorry FG, not bashing you, just the article.

Did you participate in a varsity sports in High School or College?
Does SCD stand for Summit Country Day? yep My aunt's kids went there, my cousins. It's a very, nice, $$chool. None of them played sports, but I've never ran into anyone who went there. I thought they graduated and all become Lawyers/Doctors and stayed in the SCD crowd. No offense to you, but it is a very, very, very exclusive school.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I was looking through the previous post on this thread and saw some of the old pictures of the previous streetline. Does anybody have any construction costs of what this took? Any blueprints? News clipings? Any history of those lines and what it took for construction?

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
For all the Redlegs fans, Wednesday, first pitch is at 1:15 vs. Philly. I believe Affeldt is getting the start. He'll probably go no more than 2 innings or a pitch count of maybe 30. This is my favorite time of the year. Baseball is back!!!

Cincinnati: OTR Brewery District
I'm not sure what is meant by this...I'm guessing you're saying that you're skeptical about the positive impact(s) that The Banks and the Cincinnati Streetcar will have on the area. The Banks will obviously have just about nothing to do with anything up there. I don't even see the logic is discussing that it would have an impact of any sort (positive or negative). The Cincinnati Streetcar however will have a major impact. I'm not sure if you have met and/or spoken with any of the property owners up there, but I would venture to say that they would echo this statement. I know of a couple individuals who are sitting on property, in the Brewery District, waiting to invest in the properties...but are awaiting the streetcar line. For those unfamiliar with the district it can be somewhat difficult to locate and/or navigate. In addition to this, the Brewery District could very well evolve into a destination district of sorts...and it would make complete sense to make it easy to go between places like The Banks, Fountain Square District, Backstage District, Main Street Entertainment District, Gateway Quarter, Music Hall, and then the Brewery District. It puts it on the hard line map of places to go and see when in Cincinnati. I guess I am trying to say that everything effects everything in some way or another. Of course the streetcar would have a significant impact on the whole entire area; The Banks, CBD, OTR and so on. I'm not sure how the impact of either (street cars or The Banks) will have on the Brewery District. It is obvious that the streetcar will have a good impact on the neighborhood, but if the streetcar doesn't happen soon, or at all, what then? Now with The Banks. We have heard about The Banks for 10 years now and there has always been some kind of discussion since Riverfront was built to do something there. I believe the Banks will have a good impact on the Brewery District as well, but ONLY and ONLY if the street line connects the two. I am only playing the Devil's Advocate here. I want the best for Cincinnati and the whole region. With Cincinnati's past and history of getting large projects done, it's nerve wrecking and I guess when I mentioned how the streetcars and The Banks will effect the Brewery District in OTR, everything is TIED in to one another. If one is affected, they all are affect in some way or another. That is all, this is how I see things working. The stars must be aligned to have everything to be perfect. I am a "newer" poster, but some of you on here know who I am, and know about the knowledge I have in Planning. I have worked for planning departments in government and I know how things work. It is all very political and long. --off soapbox

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
If I did my math right, :? that is about 1 million bucks for about .9 city squares for the Fountain Square project. For the street car project about 1 million per 1.2 city squares. I hope this makes some sense. The investment ratio of money to that of a city square is in favor of a street car line when compared to Fountain Square.

Support Your Local: Cincinnati
I am starting this thread because I haven't been able to find a thread that showcases our local celebrities, fads or sensations. Please make this section about Cincinnati. Why not make up another thread, Support Your Local: Cleveland or Dayton or whatever. I would like to know what is all availible where I live. The "alternative" newspapers can only show so much. To start off, I have a friend who rides BMX. There is a strong underground of Cincinnati BMX that hardly anyone knows about. They were featured once in a City Beat. All the bikers are from Cincinnati and love the city just as much as everyone on Urban Ohio, just in a different way. Some of you local "Urban Hikers" might notice groups of guys riding certain spots with all their gear set up (camera's, spotlights, etc.) near buildings, rails (arm railings), parking lots and all things urban. They ride EVERYWHERE they find a ridable spot. They ride in Price Hill, UC Campus, OTR, Downtown, the Burbs. Recently my friend filmed and produced an ALL Cincinnati BMX video. The video featured all riders from Cincinnati in all Cincinnati spots. They have a website; www.youthbmx.com and the video is called From Nothing. These are legit professional BMX Riders. Many have been around the country on tours and some have been across the pond to travel and ride in Europe. One of the guys is Tony Neyer, don't believe me, Google his name. These guys work hard, ride hard and a couple of them go to school full-time at UC. A couple are in DAAP and my friend who made this video is in CCM. These guys are legit. Check out the website, check out some of their videos on YouTube. I am not trying to sell a product here. I am exposing another fabulous part of Cincinnati. Do you guys have any others? This is the purpose of this Thread. Thanks
