Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
Thoughts/opinions: Not a bad building, my biggest complaint is it looks like it might compete with Old St. George's spires (when they get rebuilt), which I wouldn't complain about too much if it wasn't an AC dock competing with a neighborhood landmark. I'm curious about the office/retail in the office building which if it goes retail I think would be a nice addition to the energy of the site. The UC practice fields got included! Also the bulk of the building seems like it could really effect the feel of the area. It was inevitable, but I for one have grown used to the open feel between Calhoun and McMillan. With bulk on both sides it will feel very different. That said the overall site plan looks like it mixes densities along the corridor so mayb it won't be that big of an effect.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: University Park Apts/Calhoun Street Marketplace
Five Guys burger outlet slated for UC area Five Guys Burgers, a fast-food chain that serves only burgers, fries and soft drinks, is opening its first Cincinnati location in Clifton Heights and plans 15-20 more. The restaurant will open in the Calhoun Street Marketplace near the University of Cincinnati, according to a release from real estate firm the Everest Group, which represented the chain. 1950's style diners...
Olly's Trolley in Cincinnati doesn't have dine in but it is some good food served from an old trolley. There's also the Vinyl on Sycamore but I think that's closed.

Forest Park: Forest Fair Mall / Cincinnati Mills Redevelopment
THE Cincinnati Mall I noticed a week or two ago that some of the signage was gone and figured the name change was coming. I'm interested to hear about this new "nontraditional" plan. Maybe it can become mixed use but that is probably wayyyyyy too generou of me to think

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Places to start working from a historical perspective, feel free to add and manipulate: Fort Washington, Losantiville, The Bottoms, Queen City (of the west), Riverboats, Port of Cincinnati, Public Landing, Roebling I don't know how any of these might work but there's no point in changing one generic name to another one. The Banks is no better or worse than the rest of the list and everyone knows it so might as well keep it if you're not going to Cincinnatitize it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Those potential names suck as much as The Banks. No reason to change it if you're not going to tie it to Cincinnati. The Bottoms is my vote. edit: The Bottoms would be my vote if I wasn't forced to choose between a variety of generic suburban sounding development names.

I'm pretty sure you know the answer to this one so it's ridiculous that I'm even responding. Originally the proposal was for downtown/OTR so early costs reflect that segment, uptown was added after people like you and me said it would be much more viable if it connected the two employment centers of downtown and uptown, so later cost estimates reflect the larger network. Aren't you happy that the people's voice matters, and helped shaped city policy? It's all phase 1 now, but it didn't start that way. I really hope that's not too hard to wrap your head around.

I think City Blights has a point. It is hard to argue that the city sees streetcars as a step towards LRT since they haven't specifically said it (though as I've said many times I personally believe it's a step in the right direction). And while there are some general ideas for spurs, these haven't really been identified. That said, it cost money to figure these things out. So it makes sense that there aren't numbers for other possible extensions. Each spur will require a study to figure out cost and best alignment. So City Blights you're right, but I don't think it's necessarily an argument against the first/second phases or the system as a whole. Once the current route is implemented a study will determine where to go next. (At least that was my experience with a new LRT in St. Louis). Nice pics JMeck

Yeah, I think the park plans include a small docking area though I don't know if I'd call that a marina. Maybe a small dock is acceptable but not a larger, protected sort of harbor.
