That story on Resveratrol was scary. Why do we need to live 20% longer and why should we be okay with people just getting fat sitting on the couch?

I've heard that, I don't know where it came from though. I've never heard it traced back to anyone credible, just rumors as far as I can tell.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
The government's role is to step in when the open market fails. Forcing poor people into an area filled entirely depressed housing creates a failure of the system since so much of our tax structure is based property/income taxes. It results in huge inequities and perpetuates a cycle of poverty. Does OTR have too many social services, probably. As a "beggar" should these groups get to be "choosers", probably not. But the fact is they are part of the community and should be considered when making plans. We'll see how well 3CDC performs in that area, and I believe they will do at least a decent job that I'm sure many people will think is not enough. But remember, the market still does not exist in OTR and without the subsidy of 3CDC, very little would be happening, so don't talk to much about letting the free open market run its course.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Including some designated low income units spread throughout market rate units has been successful other places and I definitely don't think it is out of the question for some redevelopment in this area. We've said for years that OTR has room for everyone, I think that redevelopment efforts need to embrace certain social efforts within the area, though there are too many now. I think a great example of this is Venice on Vine, is that embraced by "the Q"? I'm not sure if it is or not, but it should be. Urban living doesn't have to be dangerous, but it should invite different social and economic groups to the party.

GOOD! I felt like we were going to drop the ball on this. Anyone know about this guy? Maybe we should figure out how to contact him to ensure multimodal infrastructure projects

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I don't think anyone would expect private companies to build the massive amount of garages required to lift the development out of the flood plain, it would have been built 10 years ago if the city/county could agree on and fund a public infrastructure project.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, the airport, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the convention and visitors bureaus from both sides of the river, and Tri-ED, Northern Kentucky's economic development agency are sponsoring an online survey to show CVG they lose business because of their high prices. It's a very short survey so everyone get clicking: http://www.cvgsurvey.com Tell CVG: End sky-high fares By James Pilcher • [email protected] • January 14, 2009 Tired of the high airfares at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport? Weary from those treks to Dayton or Louisville to catch a cheaper flight? Now's your time to vent. Officials at the airport have teamed with the region's largest business, economic development and tourism groups to start an online survey for business and leisure travelers to determine who uses the local airport and, more important, who instead flies out of one of the other five airports within a two-hour drive. The online effort, which can be found at www.cvgsurvey.com, is sponsored by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, the airport, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the convention and visitors bureaus from both sides of the river, and Tri-ED, Northern Kentucky's economic development agency. "We're trying to get good data to get to Delta and other airlines to show them that there is a lot of business in Cincinnati that they are not getting and that we can offer a lot at CVG," said Arlyn Easton, chairman of the Cincinnati chamber's air service committee and the former chairman of the Kenton County Airport Board, which oversees the local airport operation. Blogging in Print
Came across this interesting idea. Maybe enough interest from Cincinnati bloggers will result in a test run here? <b>New Media Venture Turns Bloggers Into Print Journalists</b> By Chris Snyder http://blog.wired.com/business/2009/01/new-media-ventu.html The Printed Blog: http://www.theprintedblog.com/ As old media races to catch up with the Web and figure out how to successfully monetize print content online, one publication is taking a drastically different approach: web to print. The Printed Blog, a startup founded and funded by former business productivity software entrepreneur Joshua Karp, is launching a twice-daily free print newspaper in cities across the country aggregating localized blog posts...

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
<b>New Ohio casino proposals being discussed</b> Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Dan Monk Senior Staff Reporter The former leader of a failed 2006 ballot initiative to legalize gambling in Ohio says a new proposal from Penn National Gaming Inc. is also doomed to failure. “Nothing’s going to happen unless the governor says he wants it to happen,” predicted Charlie Ruma, owner of the Beulah Park horse track in Columbus, whose 2006 ballot issue drew yes votes from 43 percent of Ohio voters. That’s the highest total for any of Ohio’s previous ballot issues to legalize casino gambling. And it was 6 percentage points higher than last year’s attempt by MyOhioNow.com to change Ohio’s constitution to allow a single casino near Wilmington. MyOhioNow organizers have previously indicated they’ll seek signatures for a return to the Ohio ballot in 2009. The Columbus Dispatch reported Saturday that Penn National has briefed state lawmakers and staff members for Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland about a proposal to permit casinos at seven Ohio racetracks and four stand-alone sites in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Casino operators would pay more than $600 million in licensing fees and share 30 percent of gross revenue with the state, according to the paper. Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
oneglove replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentAs for fast food places there are several Skyline's, an Arby's, a Wendy's, a Subway, and the tower place food court, and probably some more I'm leaving out. But yeah I guess no McDs or BK. I like the idea of LaRosas level restaurants better.

yo know what would be awesome? for the people running the show to come out and say some of these things so the only news isn't asking a passerby what the big dirt lot in front of them looks like and having an official comment of we're on schedule.

I agree that Bortz has a conflict of interest and should step down from his position at Towne. Like he said I don't think Towne owns much property along the route but it doesn't matter. Even if he acts ethically, and there's nothing to suggest he hasn't, it looks bad.
