  1. ^^ Years of losing for any organization, in any city breeds apathy and disinterest. Throw in the fact that much of UC basketball's fan base was alienated by the Huggins ouster and it takes some time to fill in the seats. You sound very much like the typical Cincinnati nay-sayer who chooses not pay attention to the positives. We aren't that large of a metro for the amount of sports that we support. When teams give us a little, we give a lot (see 2005 Bengals and the continued support). Oh and comparing professional and college sports support is somewhat ridiculous. There are 32 professional football franchises and we have one of them. There are 342 division 1 colleges and universities. The programs that draw a ton have a history, UC does not. Conference USA was not even on the football map and the Big East is just starting to enter the conversation. Papajohns.com isn't a national championship game, the Orange Bowl is a big step and has had huge support. Now i haven't been to tons of cities to attend games for teams in comparable situations but I would venture to say neither have you. I could probably count on my fingers and toes the number of people in the stands at the end of the Browns-Bengals game last weekend, things like that happen with bad teams.
  2. ^Nice, I was just thinking this the other day
  3. so let me get this straight, according to the local naacp improved public transportation is a bad idea but speed bumps will really help black communities??
  4. It was a technical problem: Here's the statement from FSN Ohio: A rare, computer-generated error at Fox Sports Ohio's transmission center in New York caused the very unfortunate switch from University of Cincinnati men's basketball to other network programming at end of the UC game on Saturday, December 20th. When Fox Sports Ohio received notification, we immediately went to work to correct the problem. However, because of the amount of time left in the game, we were not able to override this computer-generated error in time. Fox Sports Ohio is proud to bring UC basketball to the fans in Cincinnati and beyond. We fully understand the strong emotions concerning this error and would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt apology to the outstanding fans that follow Bearcat basketball on Fox Sports Ohio.
  5. Gateway's don't need to be arches. They can be a variety of things that just say "Hello you're entering something new." Cincinnati has several for the city and not all are arches (though I mean gateway kinda implies arches or an arch). They help identify places and are a piece of art that help create a more interesting and exciting space. You don't need several running the whole street just something to say "This is the gateway quarter, welcome, this is an interesting place that you should check out." It's not essential or "the most pressing" it's just an observation that there is no gateway to the gateway quarter which seems a bit counter intuitive. I guess the whole are is a gateway into OTR or something, but there's nothing wrong with place making.
  6. and i'd like a gateway. i doubt either of us get our wish soon.
  7. If you're still considering going and haven't got a ticker check stub hub, tickets are selling super cheap over there. I guess Miamians hoped the canes would be in their backyard or something... http://www.stubhub.com/orange-bowl-tickets/orange-bowl-1-1-2009-545491/
  8. ^ It was a cheap building on an underutilized site, while they didn't have to tear it down I think it added to the excitement about the project which according to all accounts for very close to having the presales required in the old market. Complaining about projects that stalled because of the complete collapse of the American market is like being angry that your dad couldn't take you to a baseball game because he had a heart attack.
  9. those are good pics, and i like some elements of the exterior but when i visited osu to check out the planning program i really didn't like the interior, it was so cold and hard to use and uninteresting. i did like the library but that was about it.
  10. there are stores, many of them outlets. sorry if my wording was too challenging for you. you're right though, much less than 80% capacity, thanks. there is the saks outlet and the guess outlet, which both have some good deals, typically i just buy things on sale. yep, i'm that cheap.
  11. why wait? right now you can go to cincy mills and get a taste since probably 80% of the mall will be moving there and it's only like 20 miles
  12. i think it's important to note that the suit will continue there just isn't a temporary restraining order so work can continue
  13. Amquip withdraws motion in Banks lawsuit Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Dan Monk Senior Staff Reporter You’d think a guy who runs a crane company would be more willing to use leverage. And yet, Frank Bardonaro passed on a chance to halt the Banks riverfront development project this week by withdrawing his request for a court order canceling a “hoisting contract” to his competitor. nice, it does need a facelift
  19. ^ HNTB doesn't have architects in their Cincy office, Kansas City might be the closest. But they've done some good stadium projects
  20. From C. Trent at 1530 homer: I know there are old plans floating around on the internet from Trahan Architects out of Baton Rouge -- there are these three pictures on their website. Those are old and dated. The architects Mike Thomas has hired are from HNTB in Kansas City, which also has an office here in Cincinnati. The stadium HNTB has done that most here would be familiar with is Louisville Slugger Stadium in Louisville, home of the Bats. They also did Invesco Field in Denver, home of the Broncos.
