  1. As much as i loathe everything Jimmy Buffet, a Margaritaville would make a killing in a city where the term parrothead was invented (according to wikipedia) and where his tickets sell out in a day or two.
  2. utility lines?
  3. I think it makes the most sense down at the new park due to the scale of it, but I think it would be a good idea to have OTR events along with the big show, especially if it becomes a 10 day super event like Rando wants. After parties, brewery tours etc just a street car ride away. OTR should just embrace Bockfest and make that its big beer party.
  4. Consider me skeptical about this whole new zoo entrance area
  5. Remember his marina over in Covington? I'm with Rando, I'll be interested to see how the coming scaled down renderings will look
  6. At least they're looking to put the museum and retail outlet in Norwood or Cincinnati
  7. None of the waterfalls come out of a building, they're all built on scaffolding, and while this was a cool concept and might even look good in some pictures, it's completely underwhelming to actually see. (I'm interning in Brooklyn this summer) Though I do remember early concepts for the park that had water flowing down into the river, though I don't think anything like that exists in the current plans. Now off to see Cold War Kids for free in Prospect Park!
  8. I know they talked about green buidlings, so I assume LEED will be used
  9. Pleasant though uninspiring. Could be much worse, that lighting gives it a bit of an art deco vibe. I'll take it.
  10. ^ You mean "tiara"
  11. There are some sand volleyball courts in Sawyer Point. Don't know how much it matters, just noting.
  12. http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/06/23/daily8.html?jst=b_ln_hl "The new riverfront park being built in conjunction with (Phase 1 of The Banks) should be finished around that same time, said Steve Schuckman, superintendent of parks. In fact, the Cincinnati Park Board has a groundbreaking scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 29 to officially begin work on the park, he said. The first phase of the park's construction will cost $32 million, and officials have about $18 million in place so far, he said." I hadn't seen this info before about the groundbreaking and financial update (or that they are officially being built in conjunction), sorry if it's old info
  13. http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/06/23/daily8.html?jst=b_ln_hl "Also during the meeting, Councilman Jeff Berding noted that Finance Committee Chairman John Cranley has a motion to introduce as part of council's budget deliberations that urges city and county leaders to find the money to build platforms over Fort Washington Way that would help connect the Banks development with the central business district. It could cost as much as $65 million to build three platforms over the entrenched roadway but would add an extra three city blocks of parks or developable space." I didn't realize that this had been talked about to the point of trying to get it into the budget

New Busch is nice for the faux brick and black steel but it isn't really surrounded by a neighborhood. Mostly parking garages and office buildings on 3 sides and an interstate on the other. It also lacks many of the nice touches of GABP like the mosaics and museum (the Cards museum is weak). They also have a hole next to the stadium waiting to create a mixed use neighborhood just like us but smaller. I'm not saying they don't do a alot well in that stadium, but it isn't perfect. Oh and the hill is in Houston, along with a flag pole in play.
  16. The park slopes from the river up to the realigned Mehring Way, I believe. So some if not most of it would be in the floodplain.
  17. Yeah I unfortunately agree with dmerkow, outlet malls work best as massive eye sores situated between two cities. Mostly I miss Time-Out...
  18. Someone whose mom works at Off 5th at Cincy Mills said they plan to move here if it gets built. I imagine others will do the same (Guess, Tommy, etc). I think this will be the straw that broke Cincy Mills back. Developer to break ground on outlets June 25 http://www.journal-news.com/news/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/06/06/mj060608outlet.html By Denise Wilson Staff Writer Friday, June 06, 2008 MONROE — After much anticipation, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Cincinnati Premium Outlets has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 25. The developer Roseland, N.J.-based Chelsea Property Group recently closed on the 117-acre site off Ohio 63 just east of Interstate 75 in Warren County, said Monroe City Manager William Brock. ...

I'm happiest for the heckler from hell. He's been with this team forever. I remember seeing him when I was a kid going to 'clones games.

  22. There's a picture of the model at the link. I don't know how to add pictures to posts yet... <b>New riverfront park model shown</b> BY JANE PRENDERGAST | [email protected] http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20080522/NEWS0108/305220067/ There will be balconies overlooking the Ohio River, sculptures tucked into groves of trees and pools of water into which you can dip your toes. Details of Cincinnati’s newest park, part of the long-awaited Banks project, became clearer Thursday at the unveiling of the designers’ model amid champagne-sipping members of the Women’s Committee of Cincinnati Riverfront Park. The group has raised nearly $500,000 as an endowment for maintaining the park, said Debbie Oliver, co-chairwoman. Designer Alistair MacIntosh, of Sasaki Associates, the Watertown, Mass., firm planning the park, explained that the first phase will be at the eastern foot of the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge. That’s where people will be able to walk along terraced stairs and waterfalls. The park will grow along both sides of the bridge, but will start to the east, between Main and Walnut streets. Workers are getting the site ready now before a Sept. 29 groundbreaking. The womens group continues to raise money, in part with a Penny Pond fountain that will be moved around the city so people can pitch in even a few cents. The group copied the penny-pitching idea from Central Park in New York City, Oliver said. “All the pennies,” she said, “add up to changing our landscape.”
  23. ^ That's what I was thinkin

Did anyone watch the Reds game Saturday (or maybe it was Sunday)? Ken Griffey Jr was introducing the Reds lineup and when he got to Dunn and called him Adam "White Power" Dunn... :-o
