Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
well what if tonight and tomorrow, active members funneled information about failed attempts, reports, anecdotes, etc. to somebody willing to write up a rebuttal? What about a new thread. . maybe January 6th Rebuttal or something like that?

Would it be productive to write back into the enquirer, posing all the problems and downsides that Winburn forgot to mention about this so called ". . .faster. . .cheaper. . .[zero liability]" alternative?

Gas Prices
^Yeah, if it was the way he stated, that would skyrocket the prices wouldn't it? I thought I was missing something as I originally read that, glad I didn't.

That concept looks so cool Oakie, you can download programs for both PC and mac that can open powerpoints. . . unless that is not the issue, in which case, sorry to butt in.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
yeah dude this is an awesome remix. I first heard this on Ronski's "Pure Devotion" album. This one is probably the best. Have you heard the Paul Miller remix? It's a joke. Not to get you started or anything, but have you heard the Ronski Speed Live at Sputnik mix from '03?

Show a pic of yourself!
I refuse to spend money at a place that call's the smallest size, "tall" and then charges as if the thing was actually tall. Further, I would expect the size called "grande" (or whatever it is) to be larger than twenty oz. or "venti". Seriously, I know its just marketing but it drives me insane. Sorry Starbucks, but not really.

Yeah working with customers is the WORST. I used to work at a bakery and people were incredibly rude, and mean, about a silly piece of pie. Just because "customers are always right" doesn't mean they need to be jerks to other people. Most definitely it should not be the other way around either.

Peak Oil
Yeah, but where do you get those? My understanding is that natural gas and petroleum are produced from the same pockets. Once one goes, the other will go with. natural gas is just vaporized petroleum right? Electric would have to come from coal, mostly. Which is also kind of in the same boat. It may not "peak" as soon as oil, but it won't be too long after.

2008, a retrospective.
I think that I had a pretty decent 2008. I was dumped about nine days ago from a relationship that lasted about 2.5 years. It won't really be easy to look past that to see how lucky I was this year. Eh, still I have a lot to be grateful for. I just never really saw this coming, at all, and so maybe '09 will bring good things but right now I don't know what I'm looking forward too. I still have to imagine the magnitude of this entire thing is relatively minuscule.

Freight Railroads
I live in Hyde Park of Cincinnati, and trains still run on those tracks a few times a week it seems. I always enjoy falling asleep or napping to the sound of the engines passing by, such a sonorous sound.

Peak Oil
Well also, it is not JUST that you have that amount of oil left. You have to take into account the amount of oil it will take to get to the oil remaining in the ground. Towards the end of the hypothetical (but not really all that hypothetical if you look at current trends) bell curve of peak oil, it becomes not even worth the amount of oil left in the ground. Sure we can come up with clever ways to extract and "boost" production but in the end you have you give up energy to get energy back, and that's where it gets slippery on the right hand side of the slope.

DJ Orion, that youtube post I made was originally by Smith & Pledger. Also I have to agree that Fonzerelli is great. Not my favorite, but typically the stuff I hear from him, I like a lot. Here's what on my mind right now. . . Elektrohouse! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM4HbjQVaI4

Peak Oil
I suppose I can appreciate that, to some extent. But, I don't think that the shift will come nearly as quickly. From my understanding, there is simply no alternative that is/was as potent/available. Definitely algae oil running cars would be extraordinary, but, can you really supply the equivalent of 80 million barrels per day with algae? Also, the electric car, while more efficient, still requires an energy source. I feel like most people think that electricity is just part of a home and that it doesn't require a fuel of any kind. If everyone is driving an electric car, that just means we have switched where more fuel is going, right? I also thought that ethanol powered vehicles were no more efficient in terms of overall oil used, considering the fertilizer, etc. that was used to grow all the corn. I just hope the peak oil naysayers know what they are talking about. I would rather not be optimistic and disappointed. . .
