Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Let's hope Cincinnati has already booked a day with him, but just hasn't announced it yet?

I'm willing to bet we hit 1000 before construction starts:)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Finally! Some actual streetcar news! Do you think we'll be hearing about a ground breaking ceremony anytime soon? I think the city really needs to get this going.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Unbelievable. Well, I guess its not really. We have all learned that these morons will stop at nothing to get in the way of progress. Oh well, I don't think they stand any sort of chance here. The city has every right to build whatever they want on the streets that they own. The MSD had a chance to move those lines with the city footing part of the bill and our moron commisioners said no for political reasons. So, this is the result. John, do you think this action by Finney will stand any chance of causing problems? Again, the longer the city waits to start construction, the more stupid stuff like this will come up.

That's hilarious and so true. These crazy people are never going to stop attacking this project. We just have to learn to get used to it I suppose. I mean, at this point there is precious little they can do to stop this project from being built right? Here's the business journal article John was talking about: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/print-edition/2011/12/16/newest-cincinnati-streetcar-plan-has.html And there's this little piece as well: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2011/12/cincinnati-streetcar-news-ran-the.html The letters that they link to from the MSD officials are interesting. I can see why the opposition is trying to get these out there. Its obvious from the tone of these letters that MSD is not supportive of this project at all and are obviously of the same frame of mind as the COASTers

Woo Hoo!!! That's great news! I hope they extend the line down to Second street with it. If I remember correctly, it would only cost an additional 4-5 million to extend it down that way? Anyone remember the exact costs of that?

How do you figure? The last thing this project needs is more delays and negative PR in my opinion call it a hunch Brad, do you know something the rest of us don't? Is the project getting a TIGER grant?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
That's pretty funny. I love how they managed to call it communist if we had both a streetcar and a hard rock cafe. Even though we all get this as a completely ridiculous and funny video, its not that different then the sort of things we actually heard the opposition saying about the streetcar all along.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
You know, that would seem to make sense, but I wonder how well that would actually work. I couldn't see it getting much use except for big events like games or fireworks. Since its underground and out of sight people may be reluctant to find it? Just thinking out loud... I also wonder how expensive it would be to actually get streetcar tracks and wires down there? They would have to build some sort of ramp in and out of the transit center from 2nd street I would imagine. Probably too cost prohibitive. John, do you know if the transit center was ever considered as part of the streetcar route?

Somebody should post this all over the web with captions about Mark Miller and his obscene behavior in the presence of children. I mean, look at the little girl who's watching him while he's doing that.

Ha Ha Ha, what a douche bag.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Don't know who this person is but, "DanB" wrote me a PM after my last post and wrote: "I haven't heard one lie on WLW. The entire streetcar is a joke. There is no money for it, and not enough people will ride it to pay for it." Don't know why he's afraid to have a civil discussion about this subject on this board, but he probably realizes that he can't back up his claims with facts and data like we can.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
BTW for those of you that actually listen to 700WLW, please tell me you are taking the time to call into these shows and protest the ridiculous lies they are spewing everyday. Because, if you're not calling in and at least trying to complain once in awhile to these morons, what's the point in listening? You know they constantly lie and mislead, but if you're not going to try to do something about it you might as well stop wasting your time listening to garbage radio. You should just turn on some music and enjoy your day:)

Typical Cincinnati ignorance. This is what keeps us 10 years behind the rest of the world. We can thank WLW and the Enquirer for giving these people their ignorant numbers.

Did anyone see this article about OTR development? http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20111115/BIZ01/111160317&Ref=AR Of course, the comments section lit up with comments about the streetcar, even though it wasn't even mentioned in the article. Then, of course, the enquirer had to put this article right next to it on the front page of the website: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20111116/EDIT02/311160095 It was pretty funny though, one of the commentors simply pasted a link to a site called "White People Problems" I've been cracking up reading through this website at work all day. http://whitepeopleproblems.us/

Has anyone heard when a ground breaking may take place? I know John said that they might start moving power lines as early as december/january. Any word on this? I can't wait to be at that ceremony!

You're right in that Sittenfeld made statements regarding that he generally does support rail, but doesn't support this project at this time or something like that. But I believe with a majority pro-streetcar council he will suddenly start saying he supports it as the project gets rolling. Regardless it doesn't matter. The streetcar will be built anyway. Council doesn't even need to approve anything anymore. If in the future some sort of council action is required, there's still a streetcar majority without Sittenfeld. No big deal!
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we have much to worry about from Smitherman. His only ally on council is winburn. Those two won't be able to get anything crazy passed without some help from the rest of the council who are decidedly pro-streetcar, except maybe Sittenfeld who seems like he might flip-flop on the issue. Sure they can throw fits and stomp their feet and cry a little about this and that, but they won't be able to do anything on their own. We have a prostreetcar majority right now and we're only months away from construction beginning. If ever there were a time to celebrate this project its now!
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
If Sittenfeld sticks to his word, we have 7. And Bortz is gone, so that's 7 WHO CAN VOTE! Exactly. This is by far the best outcome we could have ever hoped for in terms of the Cincinnati Streetcar!!!
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
And, if my calculations are correct, we have 6 Streetcar Supporters on Council now?? That's EXCELLENT!

HOLY SH** I had a feeling it would be close, but good grief!!!!

jivecity: great question. I suppose its because the region as a whole is just so super saturated with republicans that they actually leak into the city limits instead of staying in the suburbs.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Yes, in that the further away from downtown you are, the longer it takes for ballots to arrive downtown. So, downtown (more democratic) neighborhoods are counted first traditionally.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'm worried, because at this point westside republicans are still not counted. (according to the live city cam)
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
They are saying on the city live feed that at this point most of the democratic votes are typically in (we're at 50% precincts). This means with numbers this close, Issue 48 could still pass. YIKES
