Here's something fun to do while waiting for results. Look at the official election results from 2009. You can see how each precinct voted on Issue 9. It gives the exact number of yes and no votes for each site. Pretty interesting. Take some time to look up how your precinct voted last time around. Its also interesting to look at other parts of the city and find where the race was closer. http://www.hamilton-co.org/boe/inputdata/Electionsresults/Archived/G09OFFCAN.xls Oh and if you're looking for a map that shows where all the voting districts are, here's the only one I could find. You have to click on the top under "map layers" then add "voting disctricts" and use the zoom function to see each area. http://cagisonline.hamilton-co.org/cagisonline/index.html

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Well everyone, tonight we find out if we move forward with a progressive plan to enhance our city and its ability to move people and attract new residents or we find out that we've become the laughing stock of the nation for banning itself from building passenger rail for a generation! ...kind of a big deal:) If you want to see results as they come out and before the local news report them go here: http://www.hamilton-co.org/boe/ and click on the left hand side of the page "election results" then "real time results" A pdf will pop up with up to date results as they are reported. God, I remember checking this site frantically for hours in 2009 as results rolled in. Its deja-vu!!

I remember staying up late in 2009 watching results of issue 9. The results looked good immediately and continued to look good until around 1am when the results were official. It usually takes until about 10pm or so before the major polling places start reporting to news outlets.

I'm legal and registered! Voting on tuesday:) Can't wait to laugh at losers Finney, Smitherman, and Miller all over again!
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
In the first screen shot Smitherman is trying to convince people that issue 48 is the same as issue 9 was (only asking for a vote, not banning). Ridiculous. Then, the guy below in the comments blamed the city for the confusing language even though Smitherman and Finney wrote it. Its so hard to win these "debates" when you are debating against total retards. Its like trying to argue with a 4 year old child.

Well, that's fine if you choose to leave if it passes, but please do everything you can to help defeat in over the next 17-18 days. Otherwise, you should feel guilty for letting it pass. As John has said here time and time again, this sort of issue is won with small gestures. Working the polls on election day, phone banking or canvassing. Even if you do these things just one time you can at least say that you did everything you could to help out. I helped with canvassing and working the polls last time around and I can tell you that its easy and very rewarding to know that you're helping to defeat bad legislature and to help keep Cincinnati from being run by a bunch of crazy people (COAST). Please, before you start making plans to move away, take your anger and frustrations with this issue and go door to door or go volunteer to phone bank first! Sounds cliche, but its true...If you get just one person to go out on election day and vote no that might be all it takes to win this!

I encourage everyone on here to send letters to the editor of the enquirer explaining how stupid it was for the commissioners to refuse to work with the city in replacing those lines now instead of later. Maybe if enough of us write, they'll actually publish one.

Quote from the article above: “I’m against the streetcar, but nobody has ever asked me,” Barbara Holwadel, 53, of Madeira, told commissioners. “I never have gotten to vote on it, doesn’t look I will get to. “So as far as I am concerned, if they start trying to go after money through my MSD bill that is taxation without representation.” That last line makes me want to give up hope that Cincinnati will ever amount to anything more than a collection of moronic suburbs. That woman, and likely many like her, are COMPLETELY CLUELESS! Oh well, in this situation they think they are saving themselves money by voting this down when in reality it will cost them more money in the end when those pipes have to be replaced in the future anyway (which we all know will be a more expensive endeavor at that time because they will have to work around streetcar lines without interrupting service)

Here's what the Enquirer had to say about Issue 48 today. You know, if they really feel this way, why don't they stop publishing so much crap from Smitherman and Finney to prevent them from getting these stupid issues on the ballot in the first place? (the passage below is NOT the enquirer's official endorsement according to the article) Issue 48 (Cincinnati) Rail transportation This is déjà vu from 2009, when anti-streetcar Issue 9 sought to handcuff city officials from doing any development work whatsoever connected to rail systems. Issue 48 isn't written quite the same way, but we view it dimly for the same reasons we opposed Issue 9. That measure was deceptively and confusingly drafted, was too broad in its intent, and posed a danger to representative democracy by pushing us further down the path of "government by referendum," lessening the effectiveness of officials we elect. Issue 48 could affect not just the streetcar but spending or action on other rail-related projects - including the Eastern Corridor project or even privately funded projects. It ties the hands of elected officials in working toward the overall economic development of our area. As in 2009, our opposition is independent of whether or not we support the streetcar per se. We're not even going to address the merits of the streetcar of other rail projects at this point. That would play into the hands of those who wish to make this a debate about the streetcar instead of one about governance, which is the real issue here.

Its certainly amazing how long this is taking. John's been right all along saying that this is a marathon, not a sprint!

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Since its practically fall now and we were told to hopefully expect construction to start sometime this fall/late in the year...has anyone heard anything about this? Will we actually start seeing some sort of ground breaking before the November election? I personally think it would help our campaign against issue 48.

Its hard to believe that the Enquirer actually attempted to do a little bit of research and finally print something on this subject that might pass as real journalism!

City Beat reports: Monzel's Motion May Backfire on MSD "In fact, if Monzel's proposal is successful in stopping the sewer improvements, it likely will cost MSD more to construct them later, city staffers said." http://www.citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-2386-monzels_motion_may_backfire_on_msd.html It makes me so mad that the enquirer, of course, didn't properly explain why the city asked MSD to do this work now. They were simply being curteous and trying to let MSD know that if they want to make these improvements at a later date its going to be more difficult and expensive. Makes complete and total sense to do this work now BEFORE the tracks are laid. GOD I HATE THE ENQUIRER
