  1. Very good news about Fifth Third Arena. It became out-dated the day after it was constructed. Less seats won't matter at all as long as everything gets upgraded. People don't realize it's quite larger than most college basketball stadiums. Hell, Cameron Indoor Stadium for Duke only seats 9,314.
  2. I went inside Walgreens last week and talked to the owner. He said they will start demolition on Walgreens and Kroger at the end of June.
  3. Schmitty's is an amazing looking building! I just hope development keeps traveling North of Liberty.
  4. All this growth in OTR and we still have to suffer with having Cranley as a mayor.
  5. Things get old. We can't keep holding on to the past though. The OTR architecture is beautiful but people are forgetting a lot of things such as, hardly any of the newer establishments are wheelchair accessible.
  6. It would be a nice spot for a decent gas station too.
  7. Plenty of people love nightclubs in Cincy. The problem is these nightclubs keep attracting dumb owners that can't run a business. They end up closing after a few months or they suck at promoting themselves. OTR has held some nightclubs for a long time. But then they think it's cute to change owners. It happened to Electra. After Electra turned into Red Cheetah, it just attracted skanks and sleezy people.
  8. Great news. I can still remember all of the haters saying The Banks would fail back in 2008. Yep. What a failure...*snickers
  9. This is all ego driven. It's stupid. It's like why do we call 5/3 Bank "Fifth Third" when it's supposed to be Five Thirds? Just dumb decisions by clueless people.
  10. Notice that Corryville is suddenly not dangerous anymore. It has grown quiet and pleasant.
  11. That Kroger does have a good bit of nostalgia attached to it but we shouldn't kid ourselves. It's a piece of crap. It's not welcoming on any side and is surrounded by stores that nobody really cares about other than that Walgreens. It'll be nice to see it go. Such an eyesore for that entire intersection.
  12. I'm glad this giant lot is finally disappearing.
  13. This is what happens when either engineers are allowed to design things or architects who aren't that good get the "ok" on a design because they know someone.
  14. It's nice to see that hideous patch of trees gone on the side of the bridge.
  15. Johnny Rockets is nasty and I'm surprised they're still in business. Probably the worst servers and burgers anywhere.
  16. I'm just so glad attention is being paid to North of Liberty. Finally!
  17. There's something very ominous about this building. I think once all of the glass is in place, it'll paint a different picture for us all. Either way, we don't have anything downtown that looks like this so I guess that's a plus.
  18. No parking garage is a waste of money unless you live in a city with only 5 people.
  19. Well, people will just want to sleep. They probably won't give a second thought on the look of a hotel there.
  20. ^Some people just have absolutely no idea how to run a business^
  21. Civvik I agree with you and I'll add in. It's also because that little abomination of a Kroger was usually surrounded by crackheads. The perception of that intersection hasn't changed much and that Kroger isn't welcoming to people passing by. It looks like a semi-hidden health clinic with trash in the lot. Before the old Smitty's burned down, you'd have about 15 to 20 drug dealers chillin' on that corner across the street. The streetcar might help lazy folk in the CBD get down there and back but a new one needs to be built. Something that actually looks like a grocery store and not a turd.
  22. A box is an engineer's best friend. Too many architects go super conservative because it's safe. The more I look at the Ascent, the more I appreciate it. Even though the GE building design is being revamped, you can't expect anything different than what we've already seen.
  23. I'm so glad about this whole thing. The momentum we're seeing is having such a positive snowball effect. The other thing I was thinking about is since so many people hate driving to work and that downtown is seeing a resurgence in living, A lot of the new GE employees could quickly gobble up new apartments, especially at the Banks. Not only that, since the streetcar is being built, a lot of them would feel more comfortable living downtown and riding that straight to The Banks.
