Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Agreed. The one thing that destroys almost all creativity in this world and good ideas...are meetings. Nine times out of ten, meetings can turn good plans into crap. Although I don't think The Banks looks bad now. But There's a fear of looking different when money is involved. Just look what happens to car design once engineers get involved.

That looks great!

Great news. Camp Washington needs it too.

No you're right. I didn't know that part of Broadway will be gone. Who knows. Maybe all that green space would be a good look for that part of town.

I wonder if that front lawn will dictate what's going across the street on that triangle piece of land. I've always liked the look of that spot. Would be a cool place for a hotel that's triangular shaped.

Is there a final rendering of the casino? Hmm can't find it.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
Abercrombie would flourish there.

I agree. That parking lot was a huge eye sore. Even more so than the mud pit before The Banks. The casino spot has to be a huge percentage of vacant asphalt downtown right? I know there was a pie chart somewhere on these forums with percentage of parking lots.

I'd just like to say that this is going to be one of the coolest parks in the country. Not many cities can touch this one. Size doesn't matter either. Just sheer uniqueness.

I've eaten there in Minneapolis. Good food.

Civvik you have a point. I guess the only real way to judge this is seeing it up close and personal. At least they care enough to get these designs right. That's a very good thing.

^I'm with you on that Jmeck. They design what they're used to seeing. I'm an industrial designer and the same thing happens in product design. Anything you try that's radically different gets dumbed down for the public. When cars are designed, the concept work is fantastic but when idiots start chiming in on the design, it gets muddied down into a boring wash for fear of the public not being able to connect with it.

The design is just hideous. Period. There's no way I would want to look at those buildings right next to beautiful Italianate architecture. It's modern architecture vomit at the worst.

^Ha, I think we just have to accept the fact some people have absolutely horrible taste and lack true urban design vision. You look at some designs and you wonder who sits there and okay's it. Not to change the subject but look at the hideous Crosley Tower at UC. Who sat there and literally said "omg that's the design I want. I really do want to see a gigantic upside-down cement chair leg with no color scheme."

Can you imagine if Central Parkway was actually skyscraper row which is what was intended? Ha, poor Kroger building needs some tall friends.

I think people are getting their panties all in a bunch over this project. Does Atlas even like Cincinnati? and secondly, the jail shouldn't have anything to do with the casino and yet, people keep bringing it up. Who gives a crap that the casino is close to the jail? What difference does it make? Do you honestly think that whores, prostitutes and whatever else people fear the casino might bring would commit that many crimes so close to a jail to begin with? People in this city really don't know how to actually enjoy it.

Did you guys hear Frosty Rucker from the Bengals signed a letter of intent to bring the "Orange Leaf" self serve yogurt joint to The Banks. It looks really cool! http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110929/BIZ01/109300337/

When people get shot in OTR it's NOT because of that? really? anyways...I'm still excited about our downtown. I apologize because this is definitely not a racial statement even though I made it sound like it. Bottom line is I just hate it when people bash our downtown as a whole. Every city has their issues and it seems like those other cities are ignored.
