And Noma, widely regarded as the best restaurant in the world, is closing too. Probably Cleveland’s fault.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
And yet, Agave & Rye and Acqua di Luca have both opened in the past year within a block or so of Nauti and seem to be doing great (and with the reviews to match). They can indicate whatever they like, but the pandemic was a real equalizer in shaking out a lot of establishments that were stale and/or just hanging on in the first place. And with the thousands of jobs going into the parking lot that loss of the owners of Nauti also blamed for their plight, I think we’ll see that space grabbed up without too much delay.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Woe is Cleveland!! Except for: New allegations of safety problems at Metrorail threaten to derail WMATA's overhaul of the system And also: Lawmakers demand halt to work on scandal-ridden light rail line And on, and on, ad infinitum. Should we demand better from GCRTA and its leadership? ABSOLUTELY. Is this another #onlyinCleveland moment? Absolutely not.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I think it’s just…early. Sounds like they don’t have any design plans yet to be transparent about (besides what’s described), but that will change at Planning/Design Review in January.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Hey, at least I didn’t literally laugh-out-loud like I did when I read Lift’s review of this plan. His “a city with decades of shrinking population” trope is borderline farcical at this point.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
While I agree with the annoying punching-down in the lead of that article, it looks like that publication has a number of very well written pieces on arts and architecture in Cleveland. Hit the “Cleveland” tag at the bottom of the article to bring them up. I enjoyed them.

Lakewood: Development and News
brtshrcegr replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionStehlik is originally from Lakewood as well. Hopefully he continues to foster the startup/entrepreneurship ecosystem in Greater Cleveland (without doing something dumb, like, launching a quixotic run for Senate after going all in on a technology flavor of the day and then weirdly going full-MAGA…but I digress).

And if by DC, you mean Venice, Italy. But still. This is very cool news. A huge honor for Spaces.

While I don’t doubt, that’s awfully rich for a chain based in Rochester.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Without citations I’m not sure the context for your numbers, Indianapolis paid $3.5 million (in 2017 dollars) for the first year of service. The Deal That Brought a Delta Transatlantic Flight to Indianapolis St. Louis offered Lufthansa $5 million for two years, but that was only UP TO 3 days a week service. Nicklaus: In pay-to-play airline industry, $5 million is the cost of putting St. Louis on the map And the Pittsburgh incentives may have been less, but that airport already had Delta service to Paris stimulating the international market (which it later lost). Again, the CLE incentives to Aer Lingus may be “insane”, but not “very exorbitant” within the context of what it takes to play in this field today.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
Guys, the poll image in the posting above literally says it was conducted via “cell and landline.” Professional pollsters have gotten some high profile races wrong of course, but still overall have a remarkable track record of accurate predictions. They are professionals, political scientists and statisticians. They apply a model (the variation in which explains how different polling companies can have slightly different results) to the raw data, to compensate for all of these “faults” in methodology that us laymen think we know better that the pollsters. If you think the results are just the raw results of the first 500 people that answered their landlines, then you don’t understand how professional political polling works in the 21st century.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Yep you’re right that’s absolutely the ceiling of 629 Euclid. So I’ll change my guess that she’s doing design/branding for the MRN condo project just announced there.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
I mean, that would be cool, but given that she appears to do graphic design projects for other companies, and doesn’t have a line of products or anything like that of her own, I’m thinking it’s more likely that she’s working on something for Bedrock/Tower City, if this hint is to be believed. Or maybe she just signed a lease for an apartment in Terminal Tower.

The Future of America and Its Cities
So, genuinely curious for some further background on this. I’m not saying it’s incorrect, but these are some strong statements ascribing blame directly on a specific political/administration policy, when there is nothing in the linked article that connects to this. In fact, if anything it’s to the contrary: In one of the highlighted plant shutdowns, Reuters links to another article that is titled “In blow to Biden climate goals, Entergy shuts nuclear power plant” and goes on to state “Entergy Corp (ETR.N) said on Friday it has permanently shut a nuclear power station in Michigan despite a Biden administration plan to rescue plants like it because they generate electricity virtually free of carbon emissions.” (Source: https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/blow-biden-climate-plan-entergy-shuts-nuclear-power-plant-2022-05-20/) So, could it be that perhaps - Just like in Texas in 2021 - it is more complicated than blaming one man, administration, or policy direction for the complicated challenges our power grid faces? 🤔

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Very creative use of the site, and will be an appreciated amenity for the neighborhood I predict! But golly, I’m surprised that the latest downtown residential building boom didn’t revitalize the plans for that surface lot that were killed at the 11th hour by the [last] recession 🙄

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
And sometimes, alas, a stop is just a stop: “Then a headlight came into view. I looked through my camera lens and waited. At that point it seemed as though the train had stopped. In fact, it had. Just east of Berea a broken air hose sent the train into emergency. Although CSX dispatched a maintenance truck to the scene, it wasn’t needed. The crew resolved the problem and P001 was on the move, albeit at restricted speed.” https://akronrrclub.wordpress.com/tag/csx-executive-train/

Cars & Vehicles Discussion (History, etc)
Tell me again how it is the Left guilty of endlessly pursuing #theculturewars in our country? One poster advocates for more sustainable, urban-centric development patterns, and that becomes “they are quite willing to defend it if they see the need, and retain more than enough clout to do so. Careful....” and “defend their lifestyle” This type of absolutist rhetoric is what’s wrong with American political discourse today.
