Cleveland City Council
Not the first gay member (that would be Joe Santiago) but still a fantastic choice. I also know Kerry personally and cannot say enough for his maturity and vision for the city. A born and bred Clevelander, with worldly experience, knowledge how the city works, that wants to commit his life to his hometown. I'm not sure how you can criticize that. Implicating him in the ethics investigation is irresponsible and does not have any relation to the reality.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
And if I recall correctly, the ultimate reason given for the suspension of development was a large increase in the price of structural steel from when the project was first proposed. Seems that with steel currently being relatively weak, and the downtown market being that much more robust than in the mid- to late 2000, District Park could be viable again for Marous, or another developer.

Here's the Stark ad in SCT for those that are interested. Note too what does (and doesn't) get top billing.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Thank you and welcome. If it's something like this, I really like the idea. I was assuming each retailer would want to be able to have their area locked up every night and there would be a central eating area with bigger, communal tables. It appears more closely to resemble a vendor market. I love this! Food Markets are 'the thing' on the East coast. Baltimore's newest opened a couple weeks ago in the historic/artistic Mount Vernon. It's a wonderful space that leans towards local vendors. We have a couple of these in the city and they are highly successful. http://mtvernonmarketplace.com Precisely. Take a look at Union Market in DC as well, another example of the breed. This could be a great draw for Van Aken! Very exciting. http://unionmarketdc.com/

Cleveland - Ohio City, East Cleveland, and Little Italy 8/15/15
andrew0816[/member] Thanks! I found this link with more info on Huron Place Apartments. It's amazing to see how far this building has gone in just a matter of a year or two. Amazing that an owner (and management company) would just walk away like this. http://44112news.com/?tag=huron-place-apartments

Cleveland - Ohio City, East Cleveland, and Little Italy 8/15/15
Great photos! Looked like a fantastic day (inspite of the heat!) Quick question: What's the story behind the second, white brick apartment tower pictured? It looks like it's gutted? Hadn't seen that one before, and it sadly looks like a vertical embodiment of E.C.'s neglect.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Looks nice, glad that it's busy, and quickly filling a hole downtown. But ugh(!) the "menu" on the right has a pet peeve that REALLY irks me, and that for some reason I've noticed a lot in these "local-but-trying-to-be-polished" one-off restaurants and small chains: "Speciality Pizza's" I don't know what it is, but I guess I feel that if you're an entrepreneur in the restaurant biz, and image and word-of-mouth is so critical to your success (or failure), to have such a blatant, elementary school mistake on literally the largest sign in your business is just...disappointing. Fortunately, that digital sign is easily changed. Hopefully someone has caught it and done so already.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Which is strange as, per the AP, Cleveland (Ohio) should stand on its own (same for Cincinnati, FWIW), which is what you see on the dateline in the NY Times, Washington Post, etc. Then again, no surprise considering the source!

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ That's per the AP Stylebook, and not a direct slight on Cbus. Actually a pretty interesting reference if you even pick one up. But yea, things like appending the state name after a city, or how to refer to a public official, or any number of formalities, are not arbitrary decisions by the author/journalist, but should be guided by the stylebook. At least in any reputable publication.

Cleveland: Marketing the City
Hmm...just a few: http://bfy.tw/SP8 If our friends downstate in the Queen City do it, it can't be all that bad, right?

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
^ There certainly is some fluidity from year to year. Aleris (Beachwood) was F500 for a number of years but I believe is now hovering in the mid 500s. And then you have a case like Eaton (gee thanks, Ireland!)

Cleveland: Downtown: Drury Plaza Hotel Development
So, the St. Regis in DC is what I've been picturing as a model for how the Drury should turn out, with similar architectural styles is an analogous downtown setting. I don't really feel like the canopy is that bad, in this context, and I think the sign will likely fade into the background in contrast with the presence of the actual building.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
^ Having lived off and on in Washington for 10 years, and doing the trip back to Cleveland by both car and plane multiple times per year, I can emphatically tell you that it's faster, door-to-door, to fly rather than drive. Now, it is a pretty and easy drive, so I will say that it can be less stressful to drive (unless you hit DC rush hour either way), but I never regretted ponying up the bucks to fly. That being said, it would be great if we could get direct Southwest service to DCA, where SW has taken over the former AirTran slots. The United fares there - pretty much since post-merger - are usually obscene unless you get lucky.

^ The councilmembers allocate the community development money to the CDCs first.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Thanks, and that's good news. But I was hoping you were saying that Jacobs' Parking Lot On Public Square might soon see development! Oh well, I guess I'll have to take the Public Square redesign as the consolation prize. ;) Seriously, the Public Square redesign may in fact spur Jacobs or someone else to do something with that f-ing parking lot sooner rather than later. Damn, I thought you were talking about the parking crater as well. Oh well, the PS reconstruction is great news. My mind will fracture and I will likely have to be removed from society the day something is actually confirmed for the warehouse district lots. Oh man, I wish I was talking about the parking lot as well. But as KJP points out, the PS redesign will only make that parcel even more desirable.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Let's just say that it sounds that the Group Plan Commission is right in being confident that they will have enough funding for the Public Square redesign, at least. I wish I could elaborate more but this is based on comment from a friend -- who is a very reliable source on the topic -- letting something slip that he probably shouldn't have. No clue on the timeline for any announcements, but it definitely bodes well for the redesign moving forward.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Well there's one billionaire nearby -- Dan Gilbert – whose Horseshoe Casino fronts PS. The same Dan Gilbert who’s co-investing guzzillions to build an LRT line into a downtown Detroit that he is seemingly rebuilding singlehandedly… It would be nice if, here in Cleveland, he had more interest in (possibly investing in) transit as a tool to bring more gamblers into his casinos (hell, judging by RTA’s serious uptick in rail numbers, as well as the visible evidence of rail riders clutching their Total Rewards prizes on Rapid platforms heading home, it’s happening already. But instead, Danny Boy is tearing town historic buildings and constructing skywalks at historic street corners to greater facilitate automobile drivers in the increasingly tight space of Gateway downtown – a space that will only get tighter once Public Square is rebuilt shunting thousands of cars away from it. *Watch this space.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
^ Read that not as "the scale-down Barn" but as "the scale, down Barn" and I think you'll understand. **Edit: It's also a barn that Derek Zoolander would very definitely not approve of.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
There's gotta be some context to this. Gary, IN's county is the fastest growing in the US? More people moved to Milwaukee than NYC? And Cuyahoga County gained population? What's the rest of the story here...

Cleveland: 2014 Gay Games IX News & Discussion
Here's a link to the GG9 board and staff. I would say take a look and judge for yourself. There are some names on there that I would not associate with "clueless" so here's hoping for the best! http://www.gg9cle.com/gay-games/gg9-board-and-staff/ Any idea where the Senior Games numbers were 6 months out? That could be a valuable comparison.

Cleveland: Campus District
^^ Unfotunately, I think they're just showing Uniqlo and the others retail images as representative of the potential pop-up or temporary retail uses the developer cited earlier. However, if Uniqlo/Top Shop/etc were the "temporary" retail users, I could get onboard with that!
