^ Precisely. :) He looked like a crazy old hippie in a suit. It was entertaining, to say the least.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Though I don't have an answer as to what it really is, I don't think that those underground portions of the allee have anything to do with animal testing. That all happens in a completely different building, and I haven't heard of it moving out of there. It could be for the equipment needed to run and maintain the reflecting pools. It could be for a future tunnel, connecting that garage to another part of the Clinic. It most probably is not for animal testing, though. Yes, it's going to be a reflecting pool. The northbound and southbound lanes are on either side. Edit: Correcting my horrible grammar mistakes.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Maybe someone can turn one of the million Subway restaurants into a Chipotle. :) A-GREED. Wholeheartedly. Driving to Steelyard for Chipotle is fine, I guess... 'less you want it to actually still be warm... ;) Also,

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
X and Sarah Hollander (by way of Murray Hill) summed it up, pretty much. I can't add anything else... ...except my opinion. I've been in favor of the Mall site since I started following this, but last night strengthened my resolve. The plans for the Tower City site are way too crowded and busy. They want to cram this thing in between the river and Huron Road, and link it to the Higbee building. It sounds fine in theory, but when they showed us the drawings (just floor plans -- no renderings), it just looked like a confused mess. Plus, they had convention traffic (mostly trucks) coming down Huron from 71 and 77. Some days that'd be fine, but on those odd days when there's a Cavs game, a Tribe game and something going on at Tower City Amphitheater, well, clusterf*ck doesn't really seem to cover it. Whatever their reasons were, everyone in the "audience," last night, was overwhelmingly in favor of the Mall site. The first gentleman to speak was very angry (maybe rightfully so), but I think his anger (though valid) was misplaced. Maybe not. I don't know the whole story. Everyone else was pretty reasonable, but there were a couple nutjobs towards the 7-7:30 end of the discussion. It was funny that they followed each other... like it was planned that way. I left just after 7:30, so I don't know what summarizations were made at the end, but based on what PLJ said at the begginning, I doubt we'll hear anything final on a site until later summer or maybe the fall (X, am I remembering that correctly?).

I'll sure try. I'm not the best note taker, though. :/

I think that's a red herring, actually. :)

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I made it a point to check out the E. 55th and Chester site today. What corner were they planning? There're train tracks on one side... I consider that a barrier. There's a very tall apartment building on the other corner, a loan place on yet another corner, and something else, which I forget because I didn't take photos. I'm pretty sure that X is right; they're just throwing out horrible ideas to make the one they want look good. Why isn't the mall and exisitng convention center the one they want? Money, yeah, sure, but they could find the extra million, or whatever, somewhere, if they tried. It's gotta be something else. Maybe we'll find out, tonight.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Hm. I just discovered that it'll still be cheaper for me to drive to work. That's a little disconcerting. BUT, that doesn't change my support of this project! I think it will help do exactly what everyone wants it to do.

As will I.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
You are correct. It would be nice to provide front door access to the new $500 million facility. I'm very curious to see how the new allee (sp?) will look. It's true. The allee (the stip of E. 93rd from Chester to Euclid) will finish in September. I'm assuming that part of Euclid will wrap up sometime around there. The Heart Center opens in October or November.

I knew I was missing a thread, somewhere. Thanks. :)

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I saw Greg Proops at Hilarities last night and he, along with the guy before him, Max Weintraub, kept going on and on about Euclid Avenue. I understand why, but it made me wonder what the status of the project was. I keep telling everyone October. Is that true? Is there someplace that keeps track of progress? RTA's site didn't seem to warrant much information...

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
I liked Jackson at first, mostly because Campbell made me feel sick to my stomach (in much the same way George Bush does). Since he was elected, though, I've heard really nothing but negative things about him. News reports have left me feeling neutral or have reinforced my positive opinion about him. But, yet, I still hear negative things about him. Most recently, this redeployment of the police made me pause. I guess I just don't understand, but it seems like the wrong move to make. So, I like him, but I'm not sure if that's justified. In my defense, I wasn't a citizen of Cleveland, itself, until three weeks ago, so, hopefully, now that I've got a vested interested, I can learn more about Jackson and his policies and achievements and develop a better opinion. Can anyone toss out a good place to start doing that before I start digging?

The Future of America and Its Cities
Wait-- he doesn't have a magic wand? Oh. :| Agreed. I think people will do a little better than muddle through, though. It'll get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

The Future of America and Its Cities
You obviously are not paying 4.19 a gallon... Oh, I am, rest assured (well, I think it was closer to $3.90, yesterday). It's just that when I only fill half the tank, it's only about twenty bucks, and that reminds me of the good ol' days. :)

Cuyahoga County: County Government Reform News & Discussion
Can you all help a political newbie (as far as Cleveland and Cuyahoga County is concerned -- okay, as far as all politics are concerned) out here? Hagan always seemed like a good guy. Is he just as bad as the others, or is he the black sheep in the Comissioner family?

Moving from Boston to Cleveland June/July 2008
Tufts, and movingtocleveland, you've been bombarded with a lot of good choices, but I have to add Bridgeview Apartments to the list, as well. It's a good building, the views are good, and it's right on W. 9th along with the Bingham. The leasing staff is very nice, and they'll be happy to help you. EDIT: Missed tufts post about Park Lane Villa. Good choice. :)

The Future of America and Its Cities
I was going to bring this up, too. Great minds, and all that... :) Though the gas crisis is going to get worse before it gets better (and it will get better evenually), I think that it has the hidden benefit of bringing people back to this city (and others that have suffered greatly from the spawl). As gas prices go up, I think more and more people will look for places to live that are closer to work, and will want communities in which they can walk to everything. I think we're already starting to see this in Cleveland, and I'm sure it's happening in other cities, too. It's surely one of the reasons I moved. Before, driving in from Concord, every day, I'd use a tank of gas per week. 300-some miles. Thirty-six dollars (at the time). This past week, my first full week of driving from the new place to work, I logged a whopping ninety miles. I filled my tank half-way and it lasted me over a week. Gas crisis? What gas crisis? :)

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Okay, so there's two of us. :-D Yeah, I wouldn't neccessarily pick that design, either, and from what I hear, Toby didn't either. The design was chosen before he ascended to the throne, so to speak. He made some tweaks, but the main design was locked in. If you look at it from the front, where the new main entrance will be, it looks pretty sharp, and the eastern-facing side that is flush with the Glickman tower looks pretty sharp in the conceptual sketches. Once all the landscaping is done in both of those areas, I think it'll be pretty sweet. We're lacking places to go outside and eat lunch, or whatever, when the weather's nice, right now, so those areas will be good. I also dig how the color choices fit with the Crile, Cole, Lerner and Taussig buildings. Maybe some day they'll reface the core buildings to match.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Well, unfortunately, Cleveland is the underdog -- right now. The trick is to show the rest of the country (and the world) that we can be more. This is one of those things that I'm sure will help immensely. That statement makes me nervous, too, but I don't they're going to have a problem in wooing tenants and trade shows to the new convention center. The key will be the location (isn't it always?). The rest will fall into place or is already there (the Clinic, UH, et. al.).

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Nice photos, Paul. I work at the Clinic too. I can't wait until all the major construction is done there (though, it seems like once this wave is done, there will be more... and it'll never stop). When the Heart Center, Glickman, the Garage and the Euclid corriodor are done, this fall, I think it'll look great down there. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in Cleveland (and beyond) that likes the Heart Center design. :)
