Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Marado replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI LOL @ people who are so tied to their home turf they can't go 10 minutes out of their way for something they enjoy. Sure, Mason is a clusterflip, but it's not like you are driving to Columbus for crying out loud. It's TEN minutes.

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
If Mauk had been reinstated I would've had UC winning the Big East, I still think they will do fine, but it's probably WestbyGod's to lose and that pains me to say. However, the 'billies lost a coach and with it have a new direction, I'm not certain they can translate the Fiesta Bowl win to this season. At least I hope not. Moreover, UC will lose to Miami because LOL.

Where is the best place to get pizza?
My grandpa was from the Briar Hill neighborhood and they would always make the Briar Hill pizza with grated cheese and green peppers cut into rings. They had a Briar Hill festival for a couple of years, I am not sure if they still have it or not. Which pizza place do you get it from in Y-town? The place is actually called Briar (or is it Brier?) Hill Pizza on Meridian Rd. My understanding is that it is a kind of pizza, not a pizza place. I know they make it @ a Catholic church in Hubbard--the old folks do it on Fridays and young people aren't stepping in to take over, it's sad. My fave is always Sunrise Inn in Warren. Delicious.

Today, I Overheard Someone in my City Say...
Unfortunately, I think it is very often meaner than that. Most of the comments I see on pages like Cleveland.com aren't that sort of affectionate poking. They are something much more ugly and bitter. Being poorly run and the poorest city in the nation will have that effect. Serious business.

Today, I Overheard Someone in my City Say...
LOL @ Detroit battling Cleveland for the "I know I am but you're worse" trophy. Yesterday I overheard someone talking about cleaning out their parents' basement. My heart went out to them as I did the same thing on an outdoor scale last Thanksgiving. Hoarding disorder, it gets worse w/age.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
He just fails to inspire me. Maybe he'll turn out great, I can't say. But I've seen too many passes into the turf in scoring opportunities to embrace him.

Website I made
Run it through one of those sites that checks for readability for people w/disabilities. Also, add alt tags for mouse-over of link titles, that way if someone w/poor eyesight rolls over the alt tag will announce the link. Love the design and execution.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Good deal, could they suck just enough to let Anderson go down hard? IMO the worst good-team QB in the league.

Running / Jogging Thread
What type of trails are they? mountain-bike grade? walking? They are hiking trails basically, wide enough for 2 and bikes are prohibited. We have around 15miles or so and the terrain varies from open field to deep woods. Good scenery and some tough hills. I say they are the most underutilized gem MU Ohio has. A shame and a blessing--shame more folks don't use them, blessing that they aren't overrun w/peeps. But I would like someone to clean the spider webs for me.

Running / Jogging Thread
I can't say enough how great the trails around MU Ohio are. I tell my students all the time that they probably won't experience trail running as good as we have in Oxford. I hurt my back a while ago and haven't run since like February, but I'm going to get fixed and back in the saddle. I love running when it's over.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Their O-line is fine in depth, by the opening game they'll be one of the deepest in the league. The corners worry me, not the safeties. However, I think Savage will go out and get another veteran. I was responding to the other post re: Oline. I haven't seen them play this year, I know the starters are great, but after that????

Failed Youngstown Meet
I think it's WKBN's tv tower, but I may be wrong. Funny, I spent 7 years w/in a block of it @ YSU but never investigated it. I was in Warren in July but didn't get to go around anywhere, sucks but I can't rightly tell my wife, "hey hon, you watch the kids while I explore, kthx?" I drove around last August and the houses were depressing. Wick Park was nice even up to the early 90s, though the side opposite Stambaugh was already sketch. Too bad, 5th Ave. has some gorgeous cribs.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The secondary scares me to death. They are going to get eaten ALIVE if they face any QBs w/a lick of talent (Roethlisberger shouldn't be a problem) like Carson Palmer. The Browns have not done one thing to replace the talent they lost and this is going to kill them. I didn't know about the lack of O-linemen, I thought they were good there? Dear God, that has been this teams Achilles since the 80s! Will they ever learn?

Disturbing Sci-Fi Dream
That's an interesting dream. I do like sci-fi but the only dream I get is of women in tight silvery one-piece leotards complete w/a hoods that cover their head. They are taking over the world and one sneaks under a bed w/me, then it ends. :( A strange dream I had while on vacation: I went home to my mom's in Warren and we went to Niles to my grandma's (sold long ago--the house, not the grandmother, she died), there I found a little rubber finger-puppet bear I lost when I was about 5. It was just in a cupboard, plain as day.

Youngstown-Warren: General Business & Economic News
Wow. Growing up we were taught that Russians would bomb Warren because Republic was there. I guess the decided to take it by more peaceful means. Not less devastating, though. Remember Springsteen's "Youngstown": ...it seems them big boys did what Hitler couldn't do. Sad day for American industry. Now, I know I'm being myopic, the place could've been shuttered, but this just boggles the mind.

Can anyone guess where this photo was taken?
Canfield, Ohio? LOL. Maybe a fair grounds in Tennessee? I know the Canfield Fair is a big deal, perhaps whatever county Memphis is in fairgrounds?

TOLEDO - Old Orchard - my nabe
Whenever we are up there we make sure (if the weather holds) to go for a walk and just admire the homes. It truly is a great place.

Towers of Ohio's Midsize (and smaller) Cities
The First (Second?) National Bank in Warren that's pictured is simply awesome. It's like an old-timey bank that you would see in a movie, all brass and marble. Pretty stunning.
