  1. I am so pumped LaConti isnt selling out to live nation! I hate those pigs... Ive partnered with some buddies to produce shows in Columbus at independent venues such as Veterans Memorial etc and loved it, came up here to Cleveland and was looking at a few venues all of which (aside from agora) are coroprate owned and dont like dealing with "small fries". Stick it to em'! Still trying to get Bloc Parties booking party to get off his live nation crack-like addiction and let me do a show with them... p.s. just so you know how good this is for the CLEVELAND music scene. Live nation likes to put on shows only that go to multiple venues (all belonging to them of course) and often times shut down independent producers trying to bring in different acts to town for just one performance in one city. Ill put it this way, if your pop and the CEO has heard of you, green light. Anything off the beatin' path... good luck.
  2. ^Sorry I didnt get back sooner. Just got back from a forum hosted by Dennis Roach that featured Joe Roman, Peter Lawson Jones among others that St. Eds graciously had at their facilities. It basicly was an open house for questions about Cleveland's future. First, to answer your question GreePastu, it seemed (opinion) to me that his response can be summed up as follows: -its a quagmire of an issue within the council, FCE is obviuosly very powerful. Check the donation track record of FCE and individual Ratners to find out why... conversly many seats intrinsicly dont like lining already afluent non clevelander's wallets. (sam miller and al ratner live east of the city though they pay rita tax). -its a fundraiser, dont want to spend too much time on any one person -Matt to be honest Zone was probably underestimating my knowledge on the subject, I am only 20 and often times that seems to disqualify me in some individuals eyes. Back to the forum tonight, very broad topics. Alot of people talking about the detroit arts/theatre district and possible street scape ideas. I honestly didnt get much out of the meeting. Not to sound like an UrbanOhio snob but the topics and depth of material was "remedial" for UO frequenters. Ill look over my notes and see if theres anything not mentioned here.
  3. I was at a fundraiser for Councilmen Zone yesterday at Luxe on Detroit and (65th??). I asked Zone about the proceedings and I got an eye roll. He seemed to convey to me that alot of elected officials are on the fence about this and it makes it hard to go either way. Couple that with the already ambient FCE conspiracy card and it looks like we have some time yet before we will have any progress. Just my impressions though.
  4. "The May Company awning is not visually appealing - it is run down, ragged and sits directly on top fo the car." Yeah I noticed that as well, looks like its being compacted in a dump.
  5. "I see their point when it comes to the concrete silos: I wouldn't want to build a big beautiful new building that looks out on the lakefront and have them blocking my view." I think something neat could be done with those silos, who knows? If that neighborhood pushes north and takes the port space and north of browns stadium those silos could make for a cool club or other use. Also I wouldnt trust this quote: "As for Eaton considering options in the suburbs, Mentor community development director Ron Traub said he has had no conversations about a corporate headquarters coming to his community."
  6. My mom worked St. lukes ER for 20 years, used to be a life-flight pad behinf there... all new construction back there in the parking lot/ER entrance area. They have some stunning views of the skyline from there! Shaker BLVD takes that dip 1/4 mile down and the vista is exspansive. Good to see the progress, used to be full of crack-heads passed out everywhere!
  7. I could not agree more, build a scalable hood in and around the coast guard, nothing huge because you need to fill it. Boston backbay with rowhouses like the ones on Prospect (20-40th streets?) Parking lots as apart of NEW thinking downtown=wrong direction.
  8. "We are a real estate company," he said. "It's not a once-in-a-lifetime event to negotiate a deal of this size. This is our business." So why is it your only putting down $19 million?
  9. It will be closed 3 years after opening... double negative for that disgusting parking lot... does that make it positive?
  10. I forget what thread this was contained in but that Cadilac for the eatery on Euclid is now on site and being welded in. BABY BLUE

^ Snaps, I tried to find the original thread, guess I didn't search hard enough, mods can merge.
  12. Quote:Oh nothing then. I guess I imagined the 82 pages of input here... To reply to this I cite my earlier post: "Give me a short list of some questions and Ill give him a ring." Seriously, PLJ was my little league baseball coach for years, his son is a friend of mine that I graduated with and Mr. Jones would be happy to field my questions directly if I had a SHORT well articulated question set. Boil them down and instead of mind reading I'll call him.
  13. ^Corner Peter Lawson Jones about what? Give me a short list of some questions and Ill give him a ring.
  14. Having just noticed this thread and since many people have voiced well articulated thoughts as to why the CJF should remain downtown, I would like to add one more. I grew up in the eastern burbs had/still have numerous Jewish friends. For whatever reason, my Jewish friends more often (opinion) then others (non-jewish)voiced dreams of moving out to L.A. and New York etc. It was sad because so few of them seemed to be aware of their rich ethnic idenity as it relates to Cleveland. It would be a shame to see one of our cities most valued populations abandon the city symbolicly and possibly literaly in the future.
  15. ^yes. Also MayDAy thanks for that before that "before and after" example. Snazzy pics once again.

Repairing a House With Superman Ties By GEORGE GENE GUSTINES Published: September 1, 2008 In comic books, Superman was born on Krypton and rocketed to Earth on the eve of his planet’s destruction. In real life, the Man of Steel was born more than 70 years ago in Cleveland, a creation of the writer Jerry Siegel and the artist Joe Shuster. The author Brad Meltzer will conduct an online charity auction to raise money for an exterior restoration of the childhood home in Cleveland of Jerry Siegel, a Superman creator who died in 1996. But even Superman may not have been able to save the childhood home of Mr. Siegel, who died in 1996. The house, at 10622 Kimberley Avenue in the Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland, has fallen into disrepair, and an online charity auction begins Tuesday to raise money to restore its exterior. 19. Quote:$68 million! That's quite the extortion... I think Akron should call Firestone's bluff. The lobbying firm I interned for the past two years, The Success Group, is helping on this project (hired by the corporate parties). I can't say much but I will tell you it is not a bluff, they will leave if they dont get the love. I will also say the President of TSG, Dan McCarthy, who is an Ak native (might have heard of his dad...) and he is on the phone all the time with Pisquellic to try and make this happen and not fleece the tax payers. I know from the outside it seems like these companies are trying to get off easy but atleast in this case I can vouche that the parties involved are trying to make this happen and happen with benifits to all involved. This whole deal is AK insider people so hopefully they can pull it off.
  20. ^^to be honest i should be corrected, laziness is not something one wants to be connected with ones character.
  21. Quote:National Merit? Humm..... yup, and correction it was 39 kids from my class, im the ass with the button down and sweater-vest: http://shaker.org/news/releases/2004/NationalMerit05.htm
  22. Quote: More like ballin on a budget Thats my favorite quote so far on urban ohio. Thought I would share that.
  23. ^finalist?? I got national merit but didnt get semi/finalist because there were 32 other kids at shaker in my class (06) that made national merit and i knew i wasnt going to waste my time and money to compete for it. (lazy i know) As for Shaker, born and raised. Taxes are rediculous to be sure. (14k a year on a 500k house aprox.) The one thing I will treasure forever was the multicultural aspect. I found that out when I went to Ohio State and tried to hang out with white people and black people together (yellow, blue green too!) and they were very uneasy. I had alot of my friends from shaker visit me at ohio state and some of my white friends there would be very guarded and hesitant as if my friends were inherintly different from them. Needless to say I think I have changed some minds and am working on others. Friends from Hough to Hunting Valley and keeping the circle expanding!
