I think I might invest in weekly lessons to get some good tips on hand positions etc so as to avoid bad habit formation.

I feel that way about say for example the 1969 London or Amsterdam recordings of Led Zeppelin doing Dazed and Confused with those monster Bass notes from John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page using a bow string on his 1959 telecaster before he switched to the Les Paul he bought from Joe Walsh.

This is true but then, Keith Richards... Ferrari, you didn't mention if you had any music background at all. Are you just starting from scratch? Starting from scratch! Though I am not ignorant to the notions of arrangement and tone etc. I cannot read music.
  6. Hey everyone, I'm looking for stores that might sell old speakers, turntables, LPs etc. Goodwill, Salvation Army, Pawn Shops come to mind. Im looking to find a good quality set of speakers and turntable/receiver and I need to restart the Vinyl collection. Thanks for any input.

I just purchased a Fretlight guitar to begin to learn. I had wanted to learn for some time and now that I have more flexibility and resources then previously I want to try and make it happen. I am interested in lessons as well and maybe talking to people on here or in the Cleveland area about music in general from production to sound engineering. So anyone trying to learn an instrument as well or perhaps already play?
  8. Trade a non used office building with deep recesses in the middle of downtown (and surface lot) for a pretty decent 500 person development? All day.
  9. Update: Well I have been very tepid to jump in as this is my lives savings up to this point. That being said I really fell for a property on W84th but unfortunately my bid was submitted a few hours late and lost it. Since then Ive literally been in and out or at least drove by 50+ properties. I am honestly overwhelmed by the avenues by which these parcels become available. You have traditional MLS listings, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, Cuyahoga County Land Bank, County Sherrifs Auction, Craigslist for sale listings (seriously) and word of mouth. Each one has its own rules, lingo and deadlines, qualifiers. The people at the community development centers have been awesome as well as the county land bank. Top notch people staffing those places which is pretty cool. I am told by my agent that in January banks unload a lot onto the market so it might be prudent to wait till then to really commit to something.
  10. Medical Mutual as in Chisel?
  11. What about auctions of the household and estate varieties? Not the car kind.
  12. I might have a +1 since I was planning on going to the Cavs game that night.
  13. The next Cleveland Flea is the weekend before Thanksgiving. I saw a neat set of bar stools when I was there last month. http://theclevelandflea.com/ Awesome, I'm going to put in on my calendar! I love crazy places like that and I found a place in Berea today that sells refurbished alliances which is helpful. This isn't quite for furniture or decorative things, but for vintage building materials and fixtures, you may be interested in the "ReStore" that Habitat runs: http://www.clevelandhabitat.org/Restore/index.html Many of the demo-ed houses in Cuyahoga County are actually deconstructed, with usable wood, hardware, etc. available for purchase. AWESOME, thats a solid lead right there!
  14. Well I reached out to the CDCs mentioned above and have heard back from most already and they have been very excited to speak with me so thank you guys in for those ideas, never would have thought of that myself. Thats the kind of value this website. I know this sounds crazy but urbanohio is like having your own mini development and urban resource firm at your disposal. What a treat. :drunk:
  15. Thanks Mayday! Anyone know of any local flea markets or underground markets for furniture and decorative things? SAvannah had some great southern flea markets every weekend I want to find some things like that, Im free any day.
  16. Hey everyone, thanks for all the input and 58shades I am open to any area and program so I appreciate all the help and KJP I just knew you would have the scoop on zoning programs. I will post back with some pictures later.
  17. Also how do I look up how my property is zoned so I know if I can finish a basement and add a unit for example.
  18. The title says it all, I am buying a house to live in and rent the rest of like a duplex or triplex and will document the process of buying a fixer upper and gutting it. I will also try to video part of it as I want to put in a pilot episode to HGTV! Anyone have suggestions of plumbers, carpet layers, tile guys? Im looking at really cheap places, I put an offer in today on a place in the $20k range and I think it needs about $5,000 to be great. Any suggestions would be great, I have a realtor and an inspector. Any great info on cheap places to buy stuff like water heaters etc would be greatly appreciated!
  19. Does anyone think that two let alone one "upscale" grocery stores are pushing it? Perhaps one, but why not a regular place like Giant Eagle or a lower end place like Adis? I don't think everyone who lives downtown has to have or wants tofu chicken etc. Maybe thats just me. I am less of a foodie than most.
  20. I am going to be coming home for the first time in a long time and this is the place I am most excited to see.
  21. I don't have a ton of time to annotate all of these, there is lots to go over, if you have questions about something in particular, feel free to ask... enough commas for today. Maz-e-sharif is spelled a million ways in English though in Dari, Pashtu, Farci and Arabic it is essentially the same. It is a thriving city, home to the magnificent Blue Mosque aka Shrine of Hazrat Ali, cousin and son and law of the Prophets burial site. Many more to come... This thread has been brought to you by CJSOTF-A and Army Special Operations, good day.

Deep in the valley of the beast... Former Soviet stronghold at Bagram Airfield, shelled heavily during the Soviet retreat. Main gym at Bagram, retractable steel ribbed tent for cheap A/C in the Afghan heat. Garrison OPS on Bagram, with antique Soviet and Mujahadeen weapons on top of the awning. Old Soviet control tower. Not in use. ISAF tower. Mosque Dome on the other side of Bagram T-Walls, mostly for contracted nationals that work on the AF. I love Defenders, no other reason for this one. On tour around AO with OGAs, saw this cool door in walled compound wall. This is where the Quaran was burned that created such an issue. The truth is much more benign than media would have you think but I digress. Waiting... Tons of EM waves from SAT comms etc in the AO. Transition of the sky from night... to... And just like that Apollo and his horses breach the mountain range and the low humidity Afghan air is warmed as if under a hot lamp at your local fast food chain. Geologic beauty everywhere... Foreal. But I have things to do here in this wildest of wild lands.... ...and so we roll... .... ...did I mention geologic beauty? Entering the abyss... Great place for a market... and we are there at our first engagement... Many more to follow...
  23. I do not agree with this at all, quality yes but when the actual land built on is 1/4 the price of LA land then that should be reflected in end cost. Now construction quality and materials used, sure those can be on par and those value added numbers should be equal but over all this is not LA... lets be real. For a relatively modest home in LA I can go to my native Shaker Heights and buy an amazing home with public transit and great city services.
