University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
I would love to go to the game but I have to work Saturday and I'm not sure that I would make it on time. My only fear is that Brian Kelly will leave at the end of the year for some big name/big money program. I hope I'm wrong.

It looks to me like it would be tall enough but your field of view would need to be a little wider. Anyways, I saw the tower for the first time in a month and am impressed. It is going to be a behemoth on the skyline.

Cincinnati: Evanston: Development and News
I drove by this last week and it seems to be moving along pretty well. At least some concrete walls are poured, I'm assuming that it hasn't been hindered by the economy.

I noticed today at work that there is an old building getting redone in Covington. If I read it right it used to be the First Presbyterian Church erected 1830 A.D.. It's an old brick building on E 4th St. directly across from the end of Court Street. I was told that a financial firm was moving in. To be honest, from what I saw of the building and of all the work that is having to be done, it might have been cheaper to build a new office.

I met a girl last night that said that she worked for Cincinnati Grand Prix. She was telling me that they are really making some head way in getting a race in Cincinnati. Just be warned that I'm not sure how good her word is but I'm hoping she is telling the truth.

The Cyclones got goals from Dustin Sproat and Kyle Rank to secure the four game sweep for the North Division playoff title. Cincinnati also claimed the North Division regular season title as well. It is the second straight year that the club has won both honors. Cincinnati will play either Florida or South Carolina for the American Conference championship next week. The South Carolina Stingrays holds a two games to one edge in the best of seven affair for the South Division title. Cincinnati knocked off the Stingrays in five games a year ago for the conference crown. The Cyclones scored the only goal of the first period with 24.7 seconds remaining in the stanza. Dustin Sproat snapped off a shot from the bottom of the left circle for his seventh score of the playoffs. Gerard Miller and Jimmy Kilpatrick handed out the assists on the score. The physical nature that the Jackals are noted for was evident as Cincinnati had three power play chances to Elmira’s one. The shots on goal favored the Cyclones, 12-7, in the opening 20 minutes. A scoreless second period kept the score at 1-0. Each team had scoring chances, but goaltender Ryan Nie for Cincinnati and Michael Teslak for Elmira kept the scoring chances from being converted. The shots again favored the Cyclones, 9-7. Cincinnati extended the lead to 2-0 when Kyle Rank intercepted a pass deep in the Elmira end and turned it into a breakaway that resulted in his second playoff goal. The shots on goal in the third period favored Cincinnati, 12-10, and for the game the Cyclones held the upper hand, 33-24. The Cyclones will play either Florida or South Carolina for the American Conference championship next week. The schedule will be released as soon as it is available. The Cyclones will host game three of the series on Wednesday, May 13 at U.S. Bank Arena. The fourth game of the conference championship will be on Friday, May 15 in Cincinnati and if a fifth game is needed, it would also happen at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday, May 16. Cyclones Rally From Three Down To Win In OT, 5-4 Date: 04/26/2009 CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones wiped out a three goal deficit and used a short overtime to claim a 5-4 win over the Elmira Jackals on Saturday night. Jimmy Kilpatrick’s second playoff goal at 1:46 of the extra session off a rebound gave Cincinnati a two games to none edge in the best of seven series for the North Division title. The winner of the series advances to play the winner of the Florida-South Carolina series in the South Division for the American Conference championship. Frederic St. Denis started the game winning play with a feed to Ian McKenzie at the Elmira blueline. McKenzie hustled down the slot and fired a shot that Michael Teslak knocked away. The rebound came back into the slot and Kilpatrick, who was trailing the play, rifled the shot home. Elmira grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Pierre-Luc Faubert netted his first goal of the period and seventh of the playoffs at 1:44. Chaz Johnson and Travis Gawryletz had the assists. Mac Faulkner evened the scores at 1-1 with his second playoff goal at 12:43, re-directing an Ian McKenzie feed from the top of the goal crease. Faubert’s second of the period at 15:45, put the Jackals ahead once again. Johnson and Slavomir Tomko had the assists on the score. Elmira had four power play chances to Cincinnati two and the Jackals outshot the Cyclones, 12-7. The Jackals extended the lead to 3-1 when Steve Yetman picked up his fourth goal of the playoffs at 1:44 from Benoit Doucet and Tomko. Elmira made it a three goal bulge at 7:05 when Doucet collected his second of the postseason from Derek Couture and Wes Cunningham. With the Cyclones shorthanded, Faulkner got loose on a breakaway and was chopped down by an Elmira defender. The result was a penalty shot opportunity that Faulkner converted and closed the deficit to 4-2. It was Faulkner’s second of the night and third of the playoffs. The shots again favored Elmira, 10-9. Cincinnati scored a pair of third period goals to force the overtime. Faulkner completed his hat trick at 11:31 grabbing a rebound at the left post and jamming it into the net for his fourth of the playoffs. Felix Petit and Bryan O’Hanley had the helpers on the score. Then, after killing off a 1:16 five-on-three shorthanded situation—which included a Jackals goal that was waved off after it was ruled kicked in by referee Ryan Sweeney—Cincinnati launched its comeback. Dustin Sproat’s sixth goal of the playoffs on the power play with 2:08 to play knotted the scores. Sproat got to a loose puck in the slot on the right side and shoveled it in, as Jimmy Kilpatrick and Mark Santorelli handed out the assists. Cincinnati controlled the shots, 13-5, in the third period. In the overtime, Cincinnati outshot the Jackals, 2-1. For the game, the Cyclones held the upper hand in shots, 31-28. Ryan Nie took the victory, stopping 14 shots in relief of starter Loic Lacasse. Teslak absorbed the defeat for Elmira, stopping 26 shots. Game three of the series will be played at First Arena in Elmira, NY on Wednesday night (April 29) at 7:05pm. That contest will be carried on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5) at 6:45pm. http://www.cycloneshockey.com//team-news/cyclones-rally-three-down-win-ot-5-4

I've already got plans to go to the Friday game. I'm just a little curious as to why the Enquirer isn't covering the Cyclones a little better. Cyclones Battle Elmira For North Division Title! Date: 04/21/2009 CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones (41-26-5) of the ECHL will take on the Elmira Jackals (39-26-7) in the North Division Finals, beginning Friday night (April 24) at U.S. Bank Arena. The series is a best-of-seven, that starts in Cincinnati on Friday night (April 24) and Saturday night (April 25), both games are at 7:30pm. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate for the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators of the NHL. The Cyclones secured the berth in the North Division Finals after defeating Wheeling in seven games last night, highlighted by a 2-1 double overtime victory in the decisive game. Elmira, which eliminated Trenton in seven games tonight in a 5-3 decision, will host games three, four and five (if needed) in the best of seven series. Those games will all be carried on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5). Elmira plays at the First Arena in Elmira, New York. Those games would be played April 29, May 1 and 2. More at www.cycloneshockey.com.
