New York City: Developments and News
^ They can go ahead with such a controversial, complicated development while they can't fix a leak in some guys roof. Their priorities are strange, almost like they are just attention-whoring.

New York City: Developments and News
I post in most of the non-Ohio projects threads that take place in New York City. This is, generally, the only one that’s in the national news, aside from the Penn Station skyscraper. Just because the biggest debate about this project concerns another topic doesn’t mean we should take all other discussion off the table, even though that’s exactly what both sides with vested interests in the project want.

New York City: Developments and News
You don’t understand why it’s relevant? A history of neglected properties and backed taxes by a developer isn’t relevant in a development thread about a certain project? Do you read threads on this site? If a developer can’t maintain small properties and can’t manage to pay taxes, you really trust them to undertake a project of this scale, magnitude, and international attention? It was a shitshow from the beginning, and it’s only going to get worse.

John Boehner
That article makes some good points. You'd think that Obama, with his party in complete control of Congress, wouldn't waste time in little debates like this and instead focus on his own priorities. I guess they know he’s going to be giving them a lot of trouble as Speaker for the next 2 years. Instead of bipartisanship, Obama and the Democrats are seemingly going to stagnate things if (when?) they lose the House and maybe the Senate this November.

2010 Gubernatorial Election
It's actually usually left of center, so that really says something. A lot of it's more subjective formula components are a reflection of the authors personal inputs, naturally.

New York City: Developments and News
It's strange the developer can get all kinds of funding for his Religious Community Center, but can't fix a few leaks here and there, and has buildings crumbling down into the streets. An exclusive from the New York Post: Mosque Developer has Shoddy Building Record The developer behind the planned Ground Zero mosque already has a lousy record with the city Buildings Department -- racking up $24,650 in fines for safety and construction violations at a Washington Heights apartment building that his firm owns. The violations involve some of the department's more serious charges, from cracks running the height of the six-story, brick walk-up to blocked exits and fire escapes, falling mortar and an unstable chimney, city records show. "Every time it rains, I set a pan on my bed and another one on the floor," said Don McCants, 61, a truck driver and longtime tenant of the building owned by mosque developer Sharif El-Gamal and his firm, Soho Properties. "It's no drip, drip, drip, either," he lamented. "It comes down fast." Since 2008, there have been 21 code violations at the building at 504 W. 159th St., which El-Gamal and Soho Properties purchased the previous year. Of these, nine violations are still open, and $19,500 in fines are unpaid. Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I think the stores are seeing an opportunity; I'm sure they can make more money with the markup on organic produce and wine than that can make off of selling crack pipes and 40's. It's just a sign of an ever changing clientele.

Pet Peeves!
Not that I know of. Although there are rules about putting bags on empty seats (like GCrites pointed out), or putting your feet up on a seat, laying down, etc. I was on an almost empty subway car at around 4:00 am once and 2 cops came on and made 3 or 4 people get off and wrote them tickets, because they were laying down with their feet up. Apparently feet on the seat = ticket!

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ Dating scene is a big draw, if you look at many surveys that have been done by mainstream publications rather than those geared specifically toward the type of people posting on this forum. I value affordable, walkable communities as much as everyone else here, and will (hopefully) wind up back in Ohio eventually to raise a family, but I’ll be honest: the dating scene in a place like New York City is much more attractive than in Ohio. That, or I’m just not looking in the right places :D I think there’s a survey in this thread somewhere that included this as a factor, but I couldn’t find it..

Ohio Supreme Court News
What makes sense is that speeding tickets pay a huge percentage of court fees, and are extremely efficient at doing so. They're priced high enough that the court can profit, yet low enough that it's not worth it to most people to fight, and even if they do they have no chance of winning, anyways. Speeding tickets are nothing more than a selective tax that pays for our judicial system. Now, there is literally no burden of proof on the state. I don't know how this can possible be considered "due process."

Pet Peeves!
Yesterday a guy got on the train I was on (New York City subway) during rush hour, with a bike. He rolled it in, strapped it to a pole in the middle of the car, and then proceeded to grab a seat when someone got up at the next stop, thus giving me a new pet peeve. It’s rude enough to get on a crowded rush hour subway that’s packed to 110% capacity with a bunch of bags or boxes, but getting on it with a huge bike is just stupid and lazy. You really need two forms of transportation simultaneously?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
All we would need is a plethora of non-union labor and a chop of the zoning code, and we'd be well on our way.

New York City November 11th-14th. need ideas...
That bus can be really crowded depending on what time you take it. I always take a cab from LGA, although I live about 5 minutes away from there so it’s only about 8 bucks. If they each have one bag, it’s be easy enough to take the bus, and switch to the train (I would suggest hopping on the N/Q in Astoria rather than going to Harlem, the Triborough can take awhile sometimes). The cab is going to be 2-3 times faster, I think, and worth it if they are carrying any more than two duffle bags.

John Boehner
Boehner's going down soon enough. If you only knew... I sure hope he does... He's going down? What? He routinely wins elections by 100,000 votes, and it's very likely Republicans take back the House. I can't say anymore but he's not the good ol' boy people think he is. You could tell me, but then you'd have to kill me, is that the kind of ring you're caught up in?? :D So Hts, you dream about John Boehner being caught up in gay sex escapades? Personally, I never pictured him as being a sex symbol, but I guess I get your point.. sort of a "so wrong but so right," type deal? :D

NY transit bandit strikes again!
I read elsewhere he had a Koran and FEMA evacuation procedures and booklets on his person this time. He's lucky he's an infamous laughing stock, or he'd still be in an FBI interrogation room somewhere.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
I would guess not much; it has the benefit of being an “urban suburb” of sorts. That’s the reason all the cities in New Jersey just across the Hudson from Manhattan are the densest places in the country: they’re more or less bedroom communities.

Bastard child of a victorian and a McMansion
Here's the listing for your enjoyment: http://www.cbhunter.com/Property/OH/44011-2292/Avon/37114_Hunters_Trl This is my favorite: Note the attention to detail in the moldings, chair rail, tray ceilings, etc. Oh wait, there's none of that... must have run out of $ after the paying for the exterior gingerbread. :wtf: I wonder who was like, "You know what would really tie everything together in this room? THIS rug..." LMAO!! He should be prosecuted for having a house this ugly! I do not understand what people see in these new fangled bland craptastic houses! Where is the detail, the craftmanship, the character a standout unique feature?! :? That yellow Dodge Neon in the driveway is quite a standout feature.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
^ That would be the "magic number." You take the number of games left, add one, then subtract the number of games up. So right now the number is 26. So whatever the date is of the 26th game from now would be the date. If the Red's lead increases, that date gets closer. As of right now, the Reds have the second biggest lead over the closest divisional opponent in baseball!
