What Mass Transit Systems Have You Ridden?
For me it's only been Chicago, Cincinnati Metro, and NYC MTA. Although I lived in NYC and commuted for a year, so having the hindsight to be able to compare a purely auto commute (Cincinnati) vs the purely mass transit commute is extremely valuable I think (although I did have a car in NYC).

NYC: Snowpocalypse 2010
A foot of snow is much more enjoyable when you don't have to drive in it. Last winter I lived in NYC and the snow was always pretty, at least for an hour or so before the entire city turned into brown mush.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I do like the older renderings better. They had some aesthetic drawbacks but looked a lot less superblock-like. The newer renderings aren't as developed as the older ones though, so the bright orange and colors will look a lot different when they actually show a material rather than just a solid color. I think it's probably just a graphic thing.

Island Frydays on Short Vine is pretty good Jamaican food, a couple minutes away from Myra's. Can't go wrong with Myra's, though. One of my favorite places in Cincy. Lavomatic is good but a bit pricier.

manhattan new museum sky terrace
It also the best beer selection I could find in the city. I made trips there just for beer quite a few times! well you didnt live here long enough to find squirrely little places like hercules & bierkraft did you? i dk what is more mind blowing at hercules, the beer selection or the colorful owner! I was there for 9 months but my beer snobbery only began halfway through that! With any luck I'll be back for 6 months in April.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I thought it was a totally goofy video. That site does make some interesting diagrams/maps though.

^ I've been suggesting a Wal-Mart Supercenter for The Banks since day 1, but I guess the upper-middle class version (aka Target) will suffice ;)

Nice shots. I really like the new museum, the building more so than the exhibits (at least when I was there).. I tend to find that happens to me a lot, though. That Gehry skyscraper downtown is getting huge, I see.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
What are you talking about? There is nothing inept about Mike Brown. Probably one of the smartest owners out there. He treats the Bengals as a business, a business that is making his family a LOT of money. He's not like these other silly owners who only care about winning football games and championships! His bottom line is his family's pocketbook, and at that he is very successful! A fe winning seasons every few years and the fans just keep on coming. When the team is down, they make a few changes, they win a few games, and they're back! Win the division, go to the playoffs, and raise ticket prices! Very shrewd. He's letting the county know, that if they fight him, he will do all he can do to get out of the lease. When he wins, he will get more money from another city and he will leave. Of that, there is no doubt. What we're saying is in Cincy, fans are so dedicated they continue to go to games and cheer the Bengals on despite the way in which it is run (which is almost taking advantage of those fans). Bengals fans are that dedicated. So dedicated in fact, that we would, under absolutely no circumstances, allow our franchise to pack up and move to a place like Baltimore.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Judging by some of these reactions, I'm kinda glad some of you don't follow my twitter.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
How tall would this tower be? Would it appear taller than Queen City Square? Depends on where you count from, if you count the underwater portion, or perhaps the footings, then it may appear to be taller. Also depends on if they put a flag pole up top.

Cincinnati: Historic Preservation
Yeah, there are some parking meters in NoLibs that can't make but $1.00 per month, max. How about just free parking on Saturdays in addition to Sundays? That's when most people who are driving into the area for retail would be coming, anyways. Although people might not notice; I'm surprised how many times I've seen people park their cars and put money in the meter at midnight, completely ignoring the "meters active 8am - 6pm" they stare right at.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
The "superblock" type development is inherently tough to pull off. No matter how hard you try, there's just not going to be enough diversity in terms of facades. The guys at Moody Nolan are excellent designers, it's just extremely hard to do a superblock. My opinion from the beginning is there should have been a competition, the blocks divided up into standard sized plots, and different architects hired to build differently programmed buildings. That's how city's have always developed, and it's the diversity and personal design touches that make them beautiful. I think it's too much public investment and not enough private that has lead to this superblock look.

Greenhills had a strip mall, which (built during the 1930's) was one of the earliest in the country if I'm not mistaken. It also as a similarly odd basement that opens up to the back.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Myra's up in Clifton has some reasonably priced food, and is the best falafel I've found in Cincinnati. Reasonably priced, but not the exact thing I'm looking for which is a pound of veggies, chicken, rice, and falafel with the infamous "white sauce" and "hot sauce" that were concoctions of god only knows, all for $4.

You can read a bit about the Price Hill Incline's wreck, in which the rider saved himself by diving into the pile of manure he was hauling up the incline! It's on page 63 of this book, which you can preview through Google Books: http://books.google.com/books?id=qinwVjChJQIC&lpg=PA101&ots=p0uAy_Kflj&dq=cincinnati%20incline%20crash&pg=PA63#v=onepage&q=wreck&f=false

All I want is a Falafel cart, ala New York City. Nothing beats street meat.

While reconnecting Short Vine and Vine has been talked about a lot in terms of the redevelopment of that site, I haven't ever seen any plan or proposal that actually does that. I believe this is the latest site plan: http://www.corryville.org/renderings/UnivPlazaConceptPlan.jpg.html *edit* Here are a few more drawings for that proposal as well as the other things in play on/around the proposed streetcar route through uptown: http://www.corryville.org/ccc/cccdevrend.html

All the places I mentioned are downtown and within a few blocks of Fountain Square. I'm not sure of anything going on this weekend, but next weekend is Final Friday and Cincy Beer Fest on Saturday.

The Korean? I had Kimchi on a hotdog once, it was amazing. Food: one of the many joys of dating a Korean girl in New York City.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
I have seen these around being tested, and again today being used. Pretty cool, I'm glad we have at least some corridors they can manage to run on. There are problem spots on a few routes that I would think make articulated buses out of the question, mainly the 17/18 and the turns in Clifton.
