This is a question that plagues me almost every day. I usually gag my way through a few cups of coffee, black... only because it's free. On a related note, where does everyone get their cofee? What is your favorite? There's a place called Brasil Coffee House on 3rd Ave. in New York that's my personal favorite, but so far as mainstream, I'm a Dunkin Donuts man, can't stand starbucks, I'd even take McDonalds over Starbucks if given the choice...
  2. ^ Some elevators in tall buildings don't go from the ground floor all the way to the top. The core is smaller at upper floors because there may only be 6 elevators for floors 12-24, whereas there were 8 for floors 1-12. Likewise, there are certain express elevators, that will stop at the ground floor, and only service upper floors. This is so you don't end up taking 30 minutes to leave the building from the top floor at 5:00.
  3. I got a chance to see the Reds win one at Citi Field a few weeks ago, here's a few photos (as you can see I splurged and got the best seats in the house): Should have made this one bigger:
  4. Far less hipsters than I thought there'd be... I guess it was early still.

If someone in Cincinnati goes out and canes a homeless person within the next few weeks, than yes, I will believe that there are people out there that don't get the joke, and take him seriously. His regular listeners know he’s joking.

^ I'm sure those thugs listen to WLW. ^^And I'm sure you've all laughed at jokes that are for more out of line with political correctness before. And if not, like I said, lighten up a bit. He says things like this wanting half the people to get it, and wanting the other half to get all worked up about it, and he gets that reaction almost every time (case in point).

Cunningham was "suspended" because while his boss was on vacation for a week, Cunningham complained about how the boss wouldn't replace the broken mini-blind in the studio because of all the red tape to get the funding to do it. So, being the crafty entertainer he is, he offered to give some air time to any company that would come replace it for them. Within an hour a company was in there, and Willy was praising them all week. Then, it got out of hand as he kept it up.. they got new chairs in exchange for a few shout outs, new desks, some floor mats, someone moved the TV's mounted in the studio.. etc. Needless to say, the boss was a bit upset when he came back. Of course this is all bologna, and Cunningham was going to be off this week anyway. They're calling it a "suspension" to save face with the advertisers who actually pay a lot of money for 30 seconds of airtime, who are probably a little pissed that all they had to do was just show up and replace a mini blind, and they would have praises sung all week. Like has been said here, it's all a game. It's WLW. The homeless comment had nothing to do with anything, and anyone taking it seriously or getting upset about it needs to lighten up a bit. Calling someone like Cunningham bigoted and/or racist is a bit of an ignorant move. If you listen to him, the only people he ever puts down are people who don't try at life and live with a bloated sense of entitlement, and I'll stand by him at that.

Im in the same boat you are, although im not completely bald just yet. Ive been wearing the old man Scottish hats in the winter to keep the brain warm though. I see there's at least two others out there. Anyone else want to start bringing these back?

That's great, and only entices me to do it even more. You...you..you...keep a tie in your desk drawer? You have no sense of fashion. :-( I think I feel an intervention coming on. Hold up now, you haven't even seen the tie! I only keep a few, but I assure you they're fashionable and that I pay more for them than I will ever admit to. There's only one in the desk drawer on reserve because I always forget about meetings until my calender pops up 10 minutes beforehand and reminds me...

"Scalf said Miller took a breath-analysis test. He would not release the results but said alcohol played a role in the crash." This probably means it was close to the legal limit, but not over... This might be attributed to the fact that it was 6AM and the driver was likely very tired, which many people will tell you is more dangerous than driving after a few beers.

I've worked at three firms, and never have had to wear a tie other than for meetings with clients (so I just keep one in my desk drawer in case). It actually upsets me a bit, because I have a few nice ties. I want to go for a bow-tie, but I'm somewhere between not having the balls to wear it and thinking an architect in a bow-tie is too cliche.

^ I was having my third birthday party on this day.
  13. ^ The whole "bailout" thing was a lame label put on it by bloggers, anyways. They asked the city for tax credits, refunds towards utilities, etc. Goldan Lamb and Lebanon have a long and very friendly history so it's not all that shocking that a local staple would ask the local government for help sometimes.
  14. Wal-Mart is better run, and is now taking more effective steps toward functioning sustainably than our federal government. I know that will hurt some of you, and I'm sorry. Anyways, the argument about the economics could go on forever, and the anti-capitalist and "hillbilly" stereotypes that are already all over this thread aren't going to be put down, but staying on topic Wal-Mart has been making very good moves recently in terms of functioning sustainability, and I'm glad someone pointed it out here.
  15. Oh right, I forgot, stimulus funds are only rewards for Obama supporters. Yeah, all the blogosphere can stop eating there, see if they care. The place is amazing. I had a post in the "Cincinnati restaraunts" thread about how this was nothing but a business/politics move that is seen all the time now. It's a reaction to the fact that the government is giving away handouts.
  16. We get something for donating? I definitely never received my present!

No. He was poor and homeless and can relate to those children. Seeing where he came from to where he is now, could be a the spark those kids need to be the next Tyler Perry. Now if he would have paraded them around on his studio with the Disney dream academy folks that would be a different thing. Not with the kids, but the general public. Getting the Publicist to make the announcement is screaming "all eyes on me," instead of "it's about the kids." Tyler Perry probably just wants more people to watch Tyler Perry's new show: Tyler Perry's House of Tyler Perry, starring Tyler Perry as Tyler Perry.
  18. Well, they dont have to ask for money, I'm sure it would be pretty cheap to buy land in Westchester and plop up a new building. A move like this is at the heart of what American capitalism has become, and it's the fault of the government for giving out handouts in the first place. Golden Lamb (of course) didn't threaten to tear down their building or move, but it's the basic implication that the city wants/needs them there more than they want/need to be there. It's taking advantage of the precedent that has, sadly, been set by the system.
  19. No kidding... My apartment window faces a brick wall, and I don't even have a window at my office. My daily commute is entirely underground. I think I see the sky for maybe a total of ten minutes a day, and even then it's only in small slivers. I can't wait to move out of this town. Yeah, I can't stand stupid urban places either!.. oh wait ;-) You sound like you need to find yourself a beer garden, they tend to solve my problems.

NYTimes trying to suck up to the rest of the country to increase readership, I see... Still nice to get a complement from a once-great paper, even if it is on the way out :-)

^ The 15th Amendment. My point about the Civil Rights Act was a bit off topic.. that it wasn't Constitutional, rather the federal government acted on an issue that needed immediate resolution, and instead of taking the proper channels they abused the Interstate Commerce Clause.

That must have fell out of my truck the last time I was down there, I've been looking for it everywhere.
  23. Well, to be fair most people take taxi's when they have bulk items, but I get the point; there are multiple options, and the taxi is there for the times you need a car. But the comparison to NYC isn't fair in my opinion, as the MTA is in a perpetually terrible financial state, because the fares are much too low. Transit is the only option because of the way taxes and funds have been taken and distributed for decades. The selling point, as least to me, is that Cincinnati can be a city that is walkable and drivable, everyone's happy.
  24. Ram23 replied to CincyImages's post in a topic in Urbanbar
It does?? If the Civil Rights Act is Constituional, than yes it does, or at very least allows it to be. (I tend to play devils advocate when it comes to federal government)
  25. As a side note, my giant Dodge Ram travels the streets of Manhattan on a weekly basis, and is parked on one now :-) Options are fine, but don't make it seem like you have to pick one or the other. No one is going to buy into the concept if it seems like they have to get rid of their cars. Most people that would ride the streetcar on a weekly basis would keep their cars.
