Yikes! Boom! Pow! Cincinnati's very own Superheroes
The look on the sheriffs face in the second video is priceless. I highly doubt you'll find these guys walking around Lower Price Hill on a Friday night, though

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
I don't think a bridge like your talking about would happen. I'm not positive, but I think there are rules dictating where supports can be placed in order to maintain the shipping lane in the Ohio. The Mississippi in St. Louis probably has different rules that allow for multiple spans. Plus, a bridge like that is probably cheaper in material cost, but higher in labor cost. The bridge in Macau is beautiful, by the way. I still feel like a truss makes the most sense here though. But who knows.. this is why I say host a design competition. There are beautiful things that can be done with trusses, even.

I really wish the committee would sponsor a design competition for the bridge. The thing is going to cost an absorbent amount of money, why not make it architecturally significant? Lots of design firms and engineers alike are running low on work right now, so they're more likely to compete in such a competition. I have seen some amazing "truss" structures designed lately. I agree a cable stayed or suspension bridge is probably out of the question because the span is pretty short.

Another Forbes List: "Congrats OHIO"!! No city broke the top 15!!!
The cities are just ranked by violent crimes per 100,000, how is that edited in any way at all? Some of the lists like "happiest places" or the "most miserable places one" that was posted here awhile ago (i don't think it was from Forbes) use some strange statistics to arrive at their conclusions, but this one just uses the violent crime stat. Anyways, I'm surprised to see Nashville on the list, I had an ex girlfriend live there for awhile and would visit on weekends and it seemed like an extremely calm and peaceful place, except for the south side of the downtown area along Broadway, which was rowdy (in a good way) and lots of fun.

Random fare inspections, with the penalty of a $150 fine for people caught not paying, along with big signs warning people about it. After three fines, you get banned permanently.

Cincinnati: Abandoned and vacant buildings discussion
I've had some fun times in that building. My lair is going to replace the water tower in the corner, once I come into a few million dollars to buy the place.

If someone tells me they want to drive their car off of a bridge, and I tell them that's probably a bad idea, would I be an idiot for not suggesting a better place to drive to?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Speaking of family dollar, I just noticed the one on Central parkway near Findlay market the other day. i've driven and walked past it at least 100 times and have never noticed it.

I have a feeling they'd end up filled with auto-trader and the likes.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Sounds awesome. I know there's a downloadable sketchup model of the building somewhere. I've been wanting to take it and import it into a rendering program, but haven't had the time.

Off Topic
I've been thinking about starting that up for awhile. I've almost exhausted the rare and micro-brews from every special beer store in Cincinnati, so I need something new.

NYC: The High Line
Nice. It's too bad that building wasn't farther along when I was in there. The last photo I posted above, you can see the construction on the far left side. Should be an awesome view from there!

Alcohol is a money maker for owners and employees. What is the cost of a case or a keg of beer? How much do restarauts/bars charge for beers? Even after exorbatant taxes there's a pretty large profit. It also leads to higher tips. You have to tip a bartender a dollar when he takes 4 seconds to pour a beer. btw, beer goes good with everything Sherman! it's all about the paring. Give me a good brown ale with my burger any day.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I can't be the only one who thinks it's completely obtuse to call a streetcar "unsustainable" because it uses electricity that is generated from burning coal. Anyways, there is no alternative form of mass electricity production that is anywhere near as economically sustainable as burning coal, not even in the same ballpark (at least in our region). The cost of utilizing individually powered cars is probably going to be much higher than plugging into the grid, and the added carbon dioxide emissions are going to be negligible in a world where developing nations are burning more and more coal every day. What I'm saying is nothing is going to be perfectly sustainable in terms of meeting the three pillars. Everything is a balance of the social, economic, and environmental costs. What you want to do is be creative with the balance, rather than simply compromising. To me, a streetcar falls into the creative category, and something like People Movers or any of the other non-fixed rail proposals fall under the simple compromise category.

Cincinnati: 2015 MLB All-Star Game
I saw this on the news earlier and was happy about it. An All-Star game in 2013 would be great.

Cincinnati: Sparta - Kentucky Speedway
NASCAR is one of the most corrupt organizations I've ever seen, and I really believe there's a "conspiracy" behind where and when the races are. Basically, the good ole boys scratch each others' backs. But still, taking a cooler full of beer into a track and spending 12 hours sitting around drinking on a Sunday is one of the greatest experiences possible and I recommend everyone try it at least once.

How many Mac or PC users out there?
As an architecture student using a PC to dual boot Vista and Leopard, I'm disappointed. I still just don't understand how that computer can possibly add up to $1700. I built my PC around 6 months ago for $1200 (with comparable non-custom ones available at Microcenter for about $1500), and the specs are superior all around. Of course, running Leopard on it probably isn't allowed... but hell, I use Vista 90% of the time anyways. I was forced to buy a Powerbook when i started school, and just never caught on. What is it that I had to pay more for???

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
Good to hear! I go to Biederman for all of my cat needs and his service is very professional. The only downside was the security measures put in place because of the declining neighborhood that kind of set me off at first, but at least he is moving to a much more... upscale location :) My cat, Sam Jackson, also goes there. I'm looking forward to the new location.

Cincinnati: Reds Opening Day
Nice shots, I'm always pissed every year because I'm always stuck in some DAAP studio reviewing a project of some sort, having to get score updates on a cell phone. I've missed opening day for the same reason the past 4 years.

It's weird that Wendy's would choose to close, that place does a killing; it has 2 lines 40 people deep during the lunch rush. Chik-fil-A is a welcome addition, I think it will become my norm for quick, cheap food once Wendy's is gone.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
I've only been to Olives once, and had no inclination to go back. The service wasn't bad because it was early and there were only a couple of tables occupied, but the food was only decent, and priced as if it were fantastic. Tinks is nice and Habenero's is a good, cheap place. There's also the best Skyline in town.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
If the Green Party is so concerned about electricity usage, why aren't they against Queen City Square? The average office building in the US uses 17 kwh per sq ft a year. At 800,000 sq ft that is 13,600,000 kwh or 7.5 times more than the streetcar running from the Banks to UC. A new office building will use less kwh per square foot than an older one, which are notoriously tough to heat and cool. There is also the school of thought that the streetcar won't get much ridership (I don't agree with this, but the Green Party might), whereas QCS has already leased most of the office space.
