NCAA Football: General News & Discussion
It's become routine for non-blue bloods to lose their coaches before big bowl games. Now that a couple blue bloods have suffered the same fate, maybe there's a chance the NCAA does something about it. At a minimum, they should move signing day to after the national championship game.

I thought Brian Kelly leaving the Bearcats with a police escort out the back door at the senior's dinner was bad - but quitting Notre Dame via text message?! https://www.si.com/college/2021/11/30/brian-kelly-apology-notre-dame-players-lsu-hire

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
If you would have told someone a few months ago that come December, there would be one Ohio team in the running for a playoff spot - how many people would have said that team would be UC? Big game against Houston coming up - a team that has been undefeated since an opening week road loss to Texas Tech. I like how UC stacks up against them - especially at Nippert in December. I think UC will make quick work of them like they did with SMU. UC's corners are too good and I don't think Houston will be able to get their passing game going. Also - Alabama is trailing Auburn at the half as I type this. This weeks playoff rankings could look completely different than last weeks.

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Basketball Discussion
Unranked Cincy overcame a 15 point deficit to beat #14 Illinois by 20 earlier this week. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=401369820 They take on #13 Arkansas tonight in the final game of the "Hall of Fame Classic." Not bad for a team that a few months ago didn't have a coach and had - was it 4 scholarship players left on the team?

NCAA Football: General News & Discussion
I think Georgia, Ohio State, and Cincy will win out. If there's a 1 loss Big 12 champ, they'll take the #3 spot and Cincy will be the 4 seed. Georgia will stay at 1, and OSU at 2. I think this is the most likely scenario. Cincy only gets screwed if Alabama beats Georgia and there's a 1 loss Big 12 champ. Cincy might get leapfrogged in such a scenario.

Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
Bipartisan support for the proposed maps would stop it. Ironically, Democrats have complete control over this particular aspect. 1/3 of them need to approve these maps, or else Republicans get to fine tune them again in 4 years. Its an interesting twist. The 4-year clause was meant to be a punishment and incentive to get the maps approved by the committee, but now really seems to be more of an opportunity than a threat.

Driverless Cars
^ In addition to that, I think it would be a good idea for cars to verify the operator has a valid license, registration, and insurance that is up to date. It would be tougher to integrate, but would probably be even more effective at saving money and lives. I know I've been crashed into three times, and all three times the other drive was at fault, had no insurance, and had a suspended license. I read once that the majority of people stopped for DUIs were already suspended, as well.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
I'm reminded of the age old adage "vote with your wallet." If these horses were truly treated inhumanely, if they smelled like poo, if they were dangerous, etc. people would not support them. If there are hidden problems people are unaware of, awareness can be raised about them and/or the specifics could be legislated (and so far as I can tell, we already have laws about handling livestock). I think the neigh-sayers have some ulterior motives here - they don't enjoy the carriages and they don't like the fact that other people do seem to enjoy it.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
If people didn't find the horse and carriage rides fun and romantic, the company (companies? are they competitors or is it just the one?) would have gone out of business long before Seelbach's war against them. Horses are expensive to keep, so they must be generating decent revenue. And horses, like any other creature, only smell like poo when they poo or when the poo hasn't been cleaned up yet. It's not like they smell like poo all the time. This isn't a Seinfeld episode.

Airline Industry News and Discussion
I heard CVG's aviation blog guy talking on the radio the other day - apparently individual airlines often do ban people over incidents like this one, but they don't share that information with other airlines. There's no shared version of a "no fly list" for people who cause disturbances.

NCAA Football: General News & Discussion
The playoff was mostly a foregone conclusion before the season started. Alabama at #2 was pretty much all the evidence I needed to see. After Georgia, it is hard to make an argument for any 3 times with a straight face. Oregon lost to a bad Stanford team (Stanford lost 52-7 this weekend to Utah). Ohio State lost at home to that Oregon team. It's hard to say Oregon is great because that bad loss, but how can you say OSU is better given the head to head? Michigan State got nearly blown out by Purdue. Michigan lost to that MSU team. Same deal here - MSU can't stay high because that bad upset, but they have to be higher than Michigan, no? Notre Dame lost at home to Cincy. According to every poll but the committee's, this is actually the best quality loss anyone has right now. Meanwhile Cincy and Oklahome are both undefeated, but apparently haven't run up the score on their opponents enough. I think that's what we call "style points" now.

Cincinnati City Council
That is pretty wild. Especially given the rampant corruption we saw on the last council - with 3 of the 9 members having been arrested by the FBI, and the "Gang of Five" ordeal. One might have expected that to rile up the voters, increase turnout, and foster sweeping changes - instead it seems to have discouraged voters. Perhaps most Cincinnatians think the system is too broken to fix? It's certainly interesting, and I'm not sure what it says about the City.

Cincinnati: Kroger
Kroger's delivery service is top-notch. I have been using it for the last few months. I am not sure if my service is out of a store or out of their prototype fulfillment center in Monroe, OH. If you're the type of person who makes a list and walks into the store knowing what you're going to get, it's a no-brainer. It saves me an hour every weekend. In related news, they are now offering a subscription service for delivery. I think the delivery fee is around $7, so this makes since if you use it once a month or so: https://www.wlwt.com/article/kroger-offering-annual-membership-to-customers-with-free-delivery-double-fuel-points/38145560

Cincinnati City Council
We've had a Democrat majority council and a Democrat mayor for how long now? I think the only real change to expect going forward is a more creative solution to who the scapegoat is going to be, since they won't be able to blame Cranley anymore.

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
It is the biggest discrepancy ever - by far. The #2 AP team has always been either #1 or #2 in every initial CFP ranking to date. UC at 6 and Oklahoma at 8 are both wildly unprecedented. Alabama at 2 is probably the most ridiculous of all rankings. It essentially means their game against A&M didn't matter at all. Like it had no impact whatsoever. If they would have won, they'd be 2 behind Georgia. But they lost. And they're still 2 behind Georgia. Why even play the games? In another sign of blatant SEC bias -#17 Mississippi State is 5-3. They lost to Memphis, a 4-4 AAC team. That same Memphis team went on to lose to a Temple team that UC beat 52-3 the following week. The only good thing to come out of these playoff rankings is the fact that they are being almost universally lambasted by everyone. I haven't come across a positive article or even comment yet.

Cincinnati City Council
^ Incumbents typically do quite well, even appointed ones. In previous years, many term limited council members would step down a few months before the end of their term and appoint a replacement for this reason. We'll see if it holds true this year. At a minimum, she has more name recognition than about 90% of the rest of the field.

Cincinnati Enquirer
Here's the link to the library's newspaper section. It notably lacks a subscription to the Enquirer, but includes access to the Business Courier and the New York Times (which I just use for recipes): https://cincinnatilibrary.org/resources-types/newspaper/ I haven't stepped foot into the library in awhile, but I imagine you can still go there and read the daily Enquirer print edition - so I'm not sure why they haven't worked out an online account for library cardholders yet. Especially given how much the library tax went up with their last levy increase.

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
Where I lived, there were a handful of folks who would routinely call parking enforcement for cars that parked for longer than 18+ hours, or partially blocked a driveway or crosswalk ramp. Meter maids would pretty promptly come out to chalk tires and/or write tickets. I don't know if it was much of a deterrent, though. That at least impacted part of the problem - people who park cars for days, weeks, or even semesters at a time. Those are the sort of cars that probably aren't needed at all.

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
Since the CFP rankings have existed, the initial rankings have had the same top 4 teams as the AP poll every year except one: in 2015, AP#5 Oklahoma got the #3 spot, and AP#4 Notre Dame was left out. On occasion, the top 4 spots have been mixed, but that was the only time an AP top 4 team was left out of the CFP top 4. If AP#2 Cincinnati is not in the top 4 of the CFP when it comes out, it would be unprecedented. It'd be the biggest poll discrepancy since the playoff system existed.

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
I lived in CUF for 7 years and it seemed to me that owner-occupants would like to have on-street parking permit system, but the landlords don't. Most homes have a 25 foot frontage, which would realistically mean 1 permit spot per house. Landlords like to cram 5 renters into their houses, and know that most of them bring cars - making them share 1 spot is undesirable from a landlord standpoint. Residential permit parking, at least under Cincinnati's current rules, probably won't happen because landlords get a say as property owners and won't support it.

UC is now 8-0, still ranked #2 in both polls, and - first the first time ever - will host ESPN's college gameday this weekend: Even if you aren't a college football fan, it'll be worth swinging by campus this weekend to check this out.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Houston is a good example of what you're talking about: https://goo.gl/maps/AYQAiroPJuycFHv17 As for existing ROW for the metro moves plan - I believe several chunks of ROW have been sold off over the years. Some people would say it was sold off on purpose so as to make future rail development more difficult. Unfortunately several of the people who know tons about this have been chased off this forum.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
This "Greater Cincinnati Crime Spree" has been the biggest topic of discussion in any number of suburban Nextdoor, Facebook, etc. groups for awhile now: Downtown gang of teens blamed for rash of Tri-State car thefts, police say https://www.fox19.com/2021/10/27/gang-teens-downtown-cincy-blamed-rash-suburban-car-thefts-police-say/
