Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^^ The Baseball Hall of Fame does not deserve to be on that list sans Pete Rose. Another very proper post for the title of this thread!

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Does the Enquirer really think that all "millennials and tourists" are rich, young, white people? Why don't they just say what they really want to say. Everyone knows what they mean by this.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I think the off-white is the actual paint of the streetcar, and the white is the new Cincinnati Bell applique. Unless the rest of the off-white is going to be covered with decals I don't think it will go away, and I doubt Cincinnati Bell's white is going away as it was just put on. Then again, since it is just a big vinyl sticker it could fade due to UV exposure and look yellow in a year, anyway.

^ The usual bus wrap ads are just for one brand, though, so at least the buses are all the same bearable color palette. The teal/green/blue of Cincinnati Bell is barely tolerable by itself, but now that there's a Rhinegiest rainbow, two different tones of white, etc. and it is starting to look haphazard. Even NASCARs are almost entirely the colors of one primary sponsor.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
So is that it, or are there still more exterior ads coming? It already looks way too busy and borderline trashy.

Without looking it up, my gut instinct is that an easement would be needed with each property owner above the tunnel, and they would be able to negotiate reimbursement for that easement. Whenever there's a utility under someone's property, there's an easement for it (or there should be).

^ Those permit numbers don't seem accurate. It shows zero 2-4 family residential construction permits, and only two 5+ family permits in Cincinnati which isn't even close to correct.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ You could live in Chicago for cheaper than Toronto and have just as much, if not better access to transit, walkable neighborhoods, and other urban amenities. Or you could buy a house in an urban location in a place like Cincinnati for the cost of about $100,000 and have access to all of those things, like I do. I guess what you consider a "world-class city" is also subjective, but I don't exactly view Calgary as any more worldly than any of Ohio's three Cs. I think the key elements separating cities on this list are issues like healthcare and violence.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ If you adjust income for cost of living, you're likely better off financially in any average US city than any of the cities on that list. Granted, there are other things to consider aside from finances, but I consider that to be the most important, as do many people, leaving my initial question of "for whom" still unanswered. If you care more about public transit or paying the government for healthcare instead of a private insurer than you do your own financial success, then those cities likely are great places to live. I wanted to point out that the list covers just "five areas" and leaves out many areas that Americans consider to be extremely important - aside from financial success, I don't see anything about personal freedoms, for instance. The source dropped several US cities because of police shootings - something that wouldn't even be a blip on my radar in terms of "livability." This list is ultimately just like all the other dumb-a$$ lists on this page - it's completely subjective but masquerades as objective.

I saw that posted on Facebook or some place awhile back and jokingly mentioned having a wedding on it to my fiancee and I think she took me seriously.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ I didn't say every city on the list was more expensive, I said "most." And the average home in Toronto is $807,000 compared to $121,600 in Ohio. As I said, what gets you a nice home in Ohio would get you a rented studio apartment in Toronto. So far as healthcare, the "middle class working person" I mentioned in Ohio has access to healthcare, even if it costs a bit more than the amount of tax Canada takes to pay for their healthcare. In short, I think this is a list that is very befitting the name of this thread.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^ Livable for whom? Most of those cities are very expensive to live in. If you're a middle class working person in Ohio, you'd be nuts to move to Vancouver or Toronto where you could live in a studio apartment for the same cost of an entire house in Ohio. Wages are likely less in those places due to the exchange rates right now. The same goes for the Australian cities.

Cincinnati: Uptown District Discussion
That is a good development. I stop at that crosswalk for people all the time, and they always look surprised that someone actually stopped for them. 75% of the time they get a few steps out and someone blows by me in the other lane. The combination of heavy traffic, on-street parking, and perhaps the busiest pedestrian traffic in the city makes those few blocks congested all the time but people still try to race through them. The city should also put up "no turn on red" signs at a handful of places around uptown. It's impossible to see around many of the corners without pulling up through the crosswalks and blocking pedestrian traffic.

Weather
Holy cow. How tall are the Jersey barriers there? That's got to be, what, 3-4 FEET of water right there. Also, people are idiots sometimes. There was some flooding near my house at the site of the flood walls they built along Duck Creek. The police had parked at either end, but you could go around if you cut through a neighborhood. Problem was, you popped out right in the deepest part of the water. And so people were going around a police barricade in order to drive through flood waters - while abandoned cars continued to float nearby. Here's the Google Streetview from that spot: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1655431,-84.4584013,3a,41.5y,273.01h,85.63t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sN_4LTFrLm__7zp1haNujlQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 I think the barriers are typically 42" high, so you're probably looking at at least 4'-0" of water pooled on the highway. Looking at topo maps, this is just a small "dip" - about 1000' to the west of this point there's a business park that's about 30'-0" lower elevation. So this was a huge and sudden flood in a spot that really didn't seem susceptible to flooding.

Weather
Cincinnati had an odd storm Sunday evening - it was virtually stagnant over parts of the city and dropped 4+ inches of rain at rates over 4 inches per hour, causing flooding in places I've never seen flood before. I-71 and 75 were flooded in places and the Norwood Lateral was completely underwater (not my picture, saw it on Twitter): http://www.cincinnati.com/story/weather/2016/08/28/flash-flood-warning-heavy-rain-predicted-sunday-night/89518972/

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I think it's a lot easier for the utilities to just pay to pave the street than try to coordinate with the city, particularly if that coordination is with MSD or GCWW who seemingly have trouble coordinating between various groups in their own departments. I think this route would be an excellent idea for the uptown connection, when it is built. I think Jake has talked about a route like this before - if a tunnel is required for ideal operation, as a lot of people have suggested, we no longer need to consider the Vine Street corridor the only feasible route. Clifton should be considered because it serves the busier side of UC's campus, and entertainment/business districts at both Calhoun/McMillan and Ludlow. It made sense to treat the first phase of the Streetcar as a tool to encourage redevelopment, but future phases really should be focused on improving transit options, particularity along busy bus corridors, and eventually along busy highways as light rail lines.

Is the spelling "duece" a mistake or a play on the word "due" that I'm missing?

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
^ Yeah I second Bon Chinese for dim sum. I believe Uncle Yip's changed ownership and the quality stepped down a bit.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Mercer Commons
You can't just insult an entire city and call us a bunch of racist white people because your business failed. It was in a bad location and according to their website their basic t-shirts run $40. There's just not a huge demand for that type of clothing in Cincinnati and stores like this one turnover all the time because of it. I don't know what exactly the owners wanted in OTR because it is not clearly presented in the tirade of a press release, but if they didn't care enough to help create it than who cares that they're leaving? Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

The AMA restaurant thread
^ I have never worked at a restaurant but I did work at a place where tips were pooled. It was a car dealership where you could bring a car you bought there back any time for a free car wash, and most people would tip a buck or two but all tips were cash because there was no actual transaction. The cash was brought back and put in a big clear jar for all to see. You would quickly learn what new guys were full of crap by sending them to take the cars back to known tippers - some people would tip $5 or $10 every time, and when the new guy came back empty handed everyone knew it was time to get him fired.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
I can watch that 1000 times and it will always look like a clean hit to me. I stopped caring about the NFL when they all became a bunch of overpaid wimps. If everyone played the game like Burfict I might buy a ticket every once in awhile.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The naming rights seem a bit too much IMO, though if we're going this route we need to start selling exit ramps and intersections. The "Great American 3rd Street Exit" has a nice ring to it, for example.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
The cheapest flights from CVG to Taiwan have always been cheaper than flights to Tokyo or Seoul, despite the fact that they have always gone through one of those two airports. I have no idea what the logic is behind that. I'm looking at Google Flights right now and CVG to TPE is $300 cheaper than CVG to NRT despite the fact that the first two legs of CVG to TPE are the exact same flights as the CVG to NRT trip.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Dumplings are incredibly easy to make, and contain about 10 cents worth of ingredients. Unlike chicken wings there's no sort of physical limitation on the ingredients (chickens only have two wings) that could lead to continuing price hikes - it's just ground up meat, chives, and flour for the dough. If you use a greasy enough meat, some chives, and have a salty sauce of any sort you can make them taste good. I once made dumplings out of Goetta that were actually pretty good, I might make them again this weekend for breakfast now that I'm thinking about it. Tiger Dumpling's problem, IMO, was that they were charging too much. I think they were 5 for $5. It should probably have been $1 or $2 cheaper.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
I paid $900 to go from CVG to Alabama once on short notice (though that was round trip) I agree that the $678 seems way low for any US airport to Tokyo. What is the total after fees and taxes? I fly from CVG to Taiwan every year and can get round trip tickets well in advance for around $900.
