  1. I think $300 is about the cheapest I've seen flights to NYC from Cincy. When Ultimate Air Shuttle out of Lunken Airport has their buy-one, get-one free deals they are competitive with the going rates for CVG to NYC, which is a bit crazy if you think about it. The only problem is they land way out in Morristown, NJ and you have to get lucky with traffic to make it into NYC in the morning.

^ Two summers ago I saw the Street View car around Cincinnati 5 times in one day. I ended up with a cameo three of the five times. It must not have been actively capturing the other two times. They've updated their aerial imagery of Cincinnati since then and I don't know if there's a way to go back and get old images, but they actually caught me out in my back yard in that, too. It was starting to get a bit ridiculous because I'm the type of person that avoids being photographed as much as I can manage.
  3. Tennessee Orange:
  4. In person it was undeniably oranger than the Steelers Yellow. It was much closer to a Tennessee Volunteers orange than a Steelers yellow.

^ If you know the address, you should be able to get more info if you look it up on CAGIS: http://cagisperm.hamilton-co.org/cpop/permits/address.aspx Complaints probably help and in the case of AirBnB probably are needed because it's not something an inspector would otherwise notice, but inspectors can look into something on their own accord if they think something is up.
  6. Yorgos Lanthimos is a very good director. The Lobster was a great movie and Dogtooth is actually one of my favorite movies of the last 10 years or so. I'm looking forward to this movie more than any of the others recently filmed here, especially since Carol ended up being way overrated IMO.
  7. The concept of a new name reminds me a bit about how the Sears Tower is no longer named the Sears Tower. The Enquirer says the colors and logo will be changed, I guess they'll be some kind of green and blue instead of the orange they are now? At least the Steelers colors arguments will be squashed now, do we have any beef with the Seahawks I'm forgetting about? It will align the colors with Metro, which is what I always thought seemed like a reasonable idea.
  8. ^ Parts of Brooklyn and Queens have some of the worst urban infill I've ever seen in the US. The standard developer there seems to buy 2-4 single family or duplex 2-3 story buildings and replaces them with a 4-8 story condo building and spares every possible expense while doing so. It's typically worse than the student housing that has been going up around UC over the past ~5 years. I remember seeing a few of these on virtually every block when I lived in Astoria.
  9. I wonder if there would be a way to give streetcar drivers the authority to issue parking tickets. The camera on the streetcar could grab a still of the illegally parked vehicle and send it to parking enforcement, who could mail out a ticket.
  10. I think Cranley will get reelected unless a Republican runs in the primary. There is a sizable percentage of the city that is conservative - look at how close Brad Wenstrup, who was virtually unknown at the time, came to Mallory in 2009.. Cranley will get almost all of those votes, plus a split of the Democrat votes. A strong Republican running in the primary could result in Cranley becoming the ultimate lame duck for most of 2017, as he could theoretically place third and not qualify for the general election. Unfortunately I haven't heard even the slightest hint of any Republican considering a run.
  11. I don't think I've seen the Business Courier ever refer to anyone as a "former punk" before.
  12. ^ If the space is small enough that the maximum occupancy is 49 people or fewer, it can sometimes be permitted to have only one exit with certain conditions.
  13. ^ That could be a rig for drilling for a geotechnical report. If so, that is indeed a good sign. ^^ Did you happen to catch a name or logo on those trucks there with it?
  14. Police: Taser doesn't stop 'combative' highway bicylist That's quite an impressive bike ride - climbing several hundred feet of hill after having been tazed is no small feat.
  15. ^ I tried their food at Asian Food Fest and it was very good and cheap (reminded me a bit of Le's). They said they were looking for a place to set up shop and I'm glad they found one. That southwest corner of downtown is really lacking in lunch spots.
  16. ^ Chief on fatal shooting: This was a vicious, violent attack on officer
  17. ^ And they're both gross. I ate at this chain in Amsterdam (late night, not much else was open) that was like a stir-fry Chipotle. You pick the type of noodles, protein, veggies, and sauce and it's all ready in under 5 mins, and it was really cheap and pretty delicious! I believe it was called Wok To Go. If we had something like that here, I would probably eat there a couple times a week. That sounds a bit like the new "Bibibop" chain out of Columbus that is opening a location in Cincinnati soon.
  18. Cincinnati Public Schools asks voters for levy that pays for preschool, improved K-12 This "Trusted Entity" sounds a lot like the Park Board, to me. I'm extremely weary of this and will be voting no.
  19. I think it's actually having the opposite effect. These buildings drive down rents in the existing student housing, which only makes landlords less likely to clean up their properties. What's crazy to me is that some of these kids' parents are paying as much in rent as I pay for an entire monthly mortgage on a house in CUF. They could literally buy their kids a house and profit by renting out the spare rooms for a similar amount of money.

All the actual cool kids drink the Kroger brand seltzer water, or LaKrog as I call it.
  21. The Five Points intersection area and Findlay Playground look like disaster zones every afternoon because there's so much trash everywhere. I'm not 100% certain but I believe it is actually cleaned up every morning, or at least several times a week, by the jail's chain gang and/or a few of the local residents. Every afternoon it is back to looking like a dump, though. I'd wager about 90% of the wrappers of items bought at Jack's on that corner end up on the street within a block. That corner is slightly worse than the chicken bone disaster zone that surrounds the corner of Walnut and Liberty, where at least half the bones of the peg legs and flat wings bought at Tina's end up on the ground.
  22. If the "midtown" moniker were to actually stick, there will be some very confused people trying to find it in relation to downtown and uptown.

One of the side effects of our freedom of speech and expression is that the weaker, dumber members of our society are able to be corrupted by extremist narratives like those of the Islamic State. He may have been born in the US, but he was our enemy because of his support for such extremism. According to the FBI, there's no evidence whatsoever that the shooter was gay. There's plenty of evidence he was an ISIS sympathizer, though. He wasn't a closeted gay man, he was a religious man who believed homosexuals should be killed, and took matters into his own hands. Not to speak for OP, but when he says we should "grow a pair" I think he means we should be able to better sniff out our enemies, who are, unfortunately, oftentimes hidden among us quite well.
  25. One of the big benefits of the first ring of neighborhoods on the hills outside of OTR is that they have so many detached single family homes and duplexes. Those are things you can obviously find all over Cincinnati, but not really in OTR (at least not for under $500,000 or so), and the ones in Mt. Auburn and CUF are within walking distance of OTR's amenities. So if you want access to Findlay Market, Rhinegeist, the Streetcar, etc. but don't want a condo they are excellent choices. I think they could surge in popularity even before the West End because they can fill a difference demand.
