That is exactly the story I have been told from some old timers. CUF was formed so the community could stand up to UC when needed, as the individual communities were just too small to have any noticeable impact on UC.

^ Prospect Hill is its own historic district, and isn't in the OTR historic district (though they may have the same guidelines). Actually, not even all of OTR is in the district (the area around Mohawk is excluded).

That looks like it's in Mt. Auburn to me :-D Prospect Hill is strange because it's not actually a neighborhood, just an area, sort of like Brighton. Cincinnati has so many neighborhoods that it doesn't really have many place names like that because it’s usually not necessary to further classify a place beyond the neighborhood level. In fact, those are really the only two in regular use that I can think of off the top of my head, though I'm sure there are more (there are some corners like Peebles and Knowlton’s but you don’t hear those much). I have noticed people who live in Prospect Hill almost take offense to being told they live in Mt. Auburn, though. Once more areas of Mt. Auburn, the West End, and even CUF get redeveloped, the term “near OTR” is going to be used a lot.

I think utilizing the subway tunnels would have a huge psychological impact on the traditional conservative Cincinnatian. Many of the people who think the streetcar is a yuppie toy would have no problem supporting a subway system, even though it would consist of the same track and vehicles as the streetcar (they would fit, wouldn't they?). People are somewhat nostalgic about the subway tunnels, and I think using them would play off that emotional aspect. It would take what many people consider to be an embarrassment and a sign that Cincinnati isn’t a “real city” and turn it into an asset. I think focusing on the subway would benefit any potential transit tax. I’m a fan of using the tunnels as is until just north of the Western Hills Viaduct. From there, a short extension under I-75 that surfaces on Colerain Avenue and runs as a streetcar through Camp Washington. From there, it could either meet up with I-75 near I-74 and run as light rail to the suburbs, or take a route through Northside. There is a lot of room for redevelopment in Camp Washington, and even in areas along Central Parkway that are currently low density. On the downtown end, I’ve never looked into exactly how the grades work out, but the line could potentially surface in the median of Central Parkway just after the Race Street station, and meet up with the Phase 1 streetcar loop (more so for operations rather than actually running a single route on both lines).

That chart is almost always correct when used late in the 4th quarter. Going up 5 has no benefit over going up 4 99% of the time. Going up 6 has a huge benefit over 5, even more so this year given the added chance of a missed/blocked PAT.

That particular address is zoned for Multifamily Residential, not Community Commercial-Pedestrian like much of nearby Race Street, so there is some footing to oppose a restaurant/bar there.

Ram23 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationPart of the building is an addition made in 1945, and that has always been slated to be demolished. My guess is that's what they're demolishing, not the entire building (which was being worked on the last time I was nearby).

When the Reds do poorly I just become a hater of the NL Central. I'm glad St. Louis lost, and now hopefully the Cubs get swept. At this point, I'd be least upset with the Mets or Toronto winning.

I honestly think 2nd and 3rd streets are more of a detriment than FWW. I work on 3rd Street and make use of Smale Park almost daily for lunch - every time I cross 2nd and 3rd it feels like someone wants to run me over. The streets are mostly empty during the day outside of rush hour, but their vastness encourages people to speed (especially here, where the posted speed of 25 is often being doubled) and makes pedestrians difficult to spot. Even at rush hour, the only times these streets back up are when there's an accident on any of the highways they feed. As is they're way overbuilt - you could probably eliminate one or even two lanes and still not have congestion. IMO whatever happens with the caps should explore this idea. Simply orange-barrel of a lane for a week and see what happens - I imagine not much.

An interesting stat I saw is that NFL teams have a 1-427 record when trailing by 17 or more in the 4th quarter over the past 5 years, with the Bengals being the only team to manage a come back that big. I think the Eagles 21 point comeback in 2010 was the last time this occurred.

^ Streetview was updated all over OTR and Clifton in August of 2014, and I'm glad to see even more updates now - hopefully they keep updating because I am in Streetview no fewer than 5 times, despite the fact that I actively try to avoid being photographed at all times. Before Google switched the old style satellite images over to Earth, they even managed to catch me working in my back yard from above.

That's still a very windshield-centric viewpoint. One-way streets only convenience through traffic. In fact the one-way streets are a hindrance to navigating the neighborhood because the incomplete grid makes it more difficult to reach a particular destination without circuitous detours. Convenience is not more important than safety. They don't only convenience through traffic, but also traffic that either originates or arrives in the area. It's much easier to drive into or out of an area if the traffic flow is steady.

OTR and downtown are dense and vibrant enough that they really do need one way streets, especially if the residential population continues to grow. I know the community has been pushing for it from a pedestrian standpoint, but from the perspective of anyone else in the city who frequents the area for non-residential purposes, the one way streets are an asset. People avoid driving on Vine currently because the entire street can become congested because of one person who doesn’t know how to parallel park but thinks they can wing it.

^ Yeah I think whether or not Tensing is convicted has no bearing on the fact that Dubose's death was ruled a homicide. Even if a jury finds him not guilty on all charges, Dubose's death would theoretically be a "justifiable homicide."

The problem with Cranley is that he's always going to be the most conservative Democrat in the city. He's going to beat out most challengers from his own party in a general election because he's going to get the conservative leaning Democrats as well all the Republican votes within city limits (which is actually a large number, remember Wenstrup took 46% of the vote against Mallory). The only way to oust him would be in the primary, and we would need to have a more liberal Democrat run, in addition to a viable Republican. If the primary would have had a wildcard Republican like Winburn running against Qualls and Cranley, I think Cranley would have finished third.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
3-0. The biggest surprise so far is still Dalton, who has a QB rating of 121, second best among NFL starting QBs (behind only Aaron Rodgers). The Bengals got off to a similar start last year before imploding against the Patriots. Hopefully they can avoid a repeat of that even though the schedule is continuing to look tough. KC and Seattle are up next, at home.
