Tickets on StubHub for the playoff games are not too highly priced.

Yeah, that's what I always think. Not that it's in Covington, either, though. Weirdness. At least Union Terminal is CIN. Cincinnati's airport, located in Kentucky, called CVG after Covington, and operated by the Kenton County Airport Board even though it's in Boone County. The airport is also much closer to Cincinnati than Covington anyway, due to Cincinnati's city limits snaking along the Ohio River and US-50.
  3. While "Gateway Quarter" and "Northern Liberties" are popular nicknames for various chunks of OTR, anyone who has seen the crowds at places link Neon's and Japp's lately should appreciate the new moniker for that area, BroTR.
  4. It's quite a stretch to say that a park rule prohibiting rummaging through trash cans is unconstitutional, but that's the stretch the Homeless Coalition and their lawyer Ms. Kinsley will attempt to make in court: Lawsuit says Washington Park rules target poor, homeless New rules in the renovated Washington Park are unfair and unconstitutional because they are meant to keep away poor and homeless people, a federal lawsuit claimed Tuesday.

If that was their shortened link, it isn't working now. Here's the direct address of the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/odotpreference
  6. Being that close to the river and within the flood plain would make it harder to get insurance for a project like that, but I still wonder if they have any plans for the site or just want to tear the building down and sit on the land. I think empty lots look a lot worse than abandoned historic buildings, but maybe I'm in the minority.
  7. Did I miss something? What is crap, the clothing store? I think the link and post above is BS, personally. I see nothing on that company's website claiming to be a christian bookstore. It looks more like an urban outfitters that gives to charity, to me.
  8. Was anyone there? Charging a cover in Cincinnati is a joke, unless there's a band playing or something.
  9. I think you guys underestimate the size of the religious crowd at UC. Also, as was pointed out, the clothes look pretty cute and will probably sell well. Urban Outfitters does very well, and even American Apparel with their overpriced junk seems to do fine. People here have been wanting more clothing retailers around UC since this project was announced. I'm still surprised there aren't any in UPA.

I would imagine a lot of the players who keep permanent homes elsewhere (quite a few of them, if not most) rent apartments at The Banks. Previously, most rented up in Mt. Adams; you can still occasionally see Joey Votto driving his Lamborghini down from the hill.
  11. Camp Washington Chili has always been my middle of the night greasy food option, and is pretty close to UC but still requires a short drive. I tend to always forget they are closed on Sunday, though.

I cruise around on an $80 bike I got at Wal-Mart like 10 years ago, I usually get frowned upon by hipsters but I think that's because it's that much more ironic.
  13. This article makes it even more clear how goofy this entire charade is. I’m fairly certain the people of Blue Ash will be smart enough to either not allow a referendum to get off the ground, or vote it down by a huge margin if it comes to that. Blue Ash saves money and gets to build the park they’re already receiving bids on sooner, even if some citizens there don’t like the idea of Cincinnati building a streetcar, they’re smart enough not to be pawns in Finney’s game to hurt it, and probably have a more vested interest in their own park. No one in Blue Ash will vote against their own park just to put a small dent in Cincinnati’s Streetcar funding, and they’re smart enough to see that as it is.
  14. Hopefully they set up a store of some sort that sells swag and growlers. There is a brewery in Chicago that does this (forget the name); you can walk in to a little area at the front of the building, sample a few of their beers, and buy a growler of one you like. It's a great street presence and community interaction point. I don't know what policy they'd have to adopt to keep the crackheads that hang out at Shell from hogging the free samples, but it should be possible.
  15. The way the Enquirer (and all Gannet's papers) create their URL's does not work well with the Facebook comment system, which needs static URL's. If you look at an Enquirer URL (for instance: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20120812/NEWS/308120040/Police-investigate-Westwood-homicide?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE), all the junk after the "?" changes depending upon where the link was clicked, but it still always takes you to the same page. The facebook comments depend on the entire URL, even though web browsing doesn't. Comments always disappearing are just the result of bad practices on the part of Gannet's web team, combined with a far-from-perfect Facebook commenting system. Really, they should be using something like Disqus or spend the time and money to create their own system. And on a side note, when linking to stories on the Enquirer's site, just drop the "?" and everything after it.
  16. Which is a dumb decision when all factors are taken into account. I don't like W&S bullying them anymore than the next guy, but it's almost like they are turning down a ton of cash because they want to be a thorn in the city's side, like the Drop-Inn. Their decision not to sell, then move, expand, upgrade, and help more people is mind boggling and can't be anything other than an anti-gentrification stance based on some outdated social policy of the 1970's. Wow. What an utter lack of compassion, and--perhaps--misunderstanding. This has nothing to do with anti-gentrification. W&S low-balled Anna Louise Inn several times in the past, offering them prices way too low for it to make since, or be responsible, for them to sell. Then, after Anna Louise Inn lined up financing to do a rehab, W&S started their bullying because they realized the Inn might be staying around for a while. Their actions have been so extreme that I doubt the board of Anna Louise would ever, ever consider selling to them--and I certainly hope they never do. Sell it to anyone else to make condos or whatever, but W&S should not be given the honor. Lack of compassion? It's my opinion that Anna Louise could sell and improve their services in a new facility but are instead exacting revenge on W&S (as per your comment). You may disagree with that, but there's no need to be insulting.

  18. From reading the last couple posts, Mahogany's seems like it's some sort of aggressive Hooters. I wouldn't be surprised to see managers of neighboring establishments exchanging words, I'd be pissed if my neighbor got a million dollars for free to open my competition.

I take it you're not from Cincy, so you're not aware that he constantly puts himself in the limelight as a political activist. Because he does, the public absolutely reserves the right to judge him based on who he represents and how he does it. No one gets a free pass for their professional actions, and in this case someones professional actions are directly opposite their personal beliefs; that is the definition of hypocritical. You've got it backwards, I'm talking about him, not his clients.

If he is acting in his professional capacity as a lawyer at that meeting, then he is not speaking as "Chris Finney"...... he is speaking as "Chris Finney, on behalf of [fill in his client]" In that capacity, he is not being a hypocrite. He is doing what he is required by law to do - which is to zealously represent his client. Calling him a hypocrite in this circumstance is really no different than calling a cop who gives you a speeding ticket a "pig".... the only purpose it serves is to make you feel a little better inside If he took on a client whose major defense is an economic impact study, than he is a hypocrite because of his stance with regards to the economic impact studies done for the streetcar. If one is going to attempt to be a political activist as a lawyer, then they need to be selective with their clients (it’s not like he’s a public defender). I’m not going to let someone as active in politics as he is leave his work at his desk when he comes home, lawyer or not. You seemed to take that pretty personally, are you a lawyer or something?
  21. That was Scott Meyer, a Deerfield Township pilot and a member of Save the Blue Ash Airport Committee. And he finds the streetcar "offensive." Love how Brian Thomas kept saying how Scott is just a guy, a concerned citizen, the power of one! And neither one of them once mentioned that only $11M of the $37M goes to the streetcar. He can afford his 4000 square foot mansion in the suburbs, I'm pretty sure he'll be able to afford to drive the extra 15 minutes to Lunken. As a concerned citizen myself, I'm upset that my city has $40 million tied up in an excessive airport outside of city limits that serves the needs of only a few people. A streetcar will serve far more people than Blue Ash Airport does, and potential ridership has been one of COAST's complaints all along.

^ You have to remember that Finney is first and foremost a lawyer; of course he'll sell out his beliefs to win a case, it's expected of him. Lawyers get paid to be professional hypocrites. I've also seen some people around town that work at the Finney firm, and I don't think all the partners there nor the other lawyers and paralegals share his same hatred for the city. I'm pretty sure there's at least one or two that live in OTR.
  23. OTR murder suspect returned to Hamilton County Here's the guy who is being charged with the shootings on the 1600 block of Walnut a few weeks ago: http://cincymugshots.com/inmate-permalink.php?txtSearch=Amison%2C+Virgil You can check him out on the Clerk of Court via the link above. He's got nearly 70 charges, many violent, since he turned 18 in 2000, and who knows how many before then. He has a similar rap sheet to his victim.

They likely will, but mostly due to demographics. As has been pointed out in this thread, Kroger tailors the items it sells in every store to what moves most. This is why the beer selection at the Kroger in OTR consists mostly of 40oz bottles of malt liquor, for instance. OTR is historically a low-income neighborhood, so Kroger’s offerings reflect the demand of low-income residents. A Whole Foods, Fresh Market, and Trader Joe’s sell the same stuff in every store, and it’s exactly the stuff that newer, young professional residents of OTR and downtown want to consume. I get why Kroger sells what it does from a business standpoint, but it is a reactionary model. It’d be a proactive step for a Whole Foods to open shop; there’s probably enough demand already, and a yuppie grocer like that might even encourage new residents to move in.
  25. This is all overblown. There's no reason for Cincinnati or Blue Ash to back out at this point. Blue Ash has already been requesting bids for the park they're planning. I'd imagine everything is business as usual, despite the relatively small technicalities COAST is blowing out of proportion.
