  1. Exactly what I thought. My point made. I am not your enemy, and I don't have an issue with you beyond the title and subject of your photo thread. I grew up on the east side of Cleveland. On other websites, my neighborhood and its surrounds are bashed every day. You might have a true interest in older housing units and their style of architecture, but there are many who take pictures like the ones in "Touring Cleveland" that buy into the hype that people of color are 100% to blame for current conditions. Maybe not your intent, but it is what many see as the intention behind your thread "touring Cleveland" meaning " touring slums and dilapidated factories". Just my two cents, i hope to enjoy some of your other threads. By the way, seeing current conditions in many inner cities neighborhoods in Detroit and Cleveland hurt me deeply. Seeing revitalized urban neighborhoods offers me hope. Take Care

I am so glad urban blight is a photo fetish. I am sure the residence in those neighborhood find it fascinating too.

Let's not get started. I don't care to see run down sections of Detroit or Cleveland; I lived in an area of the east side that saw white flight and slum lords turn most of the area into blight. Retitle your thread to reflect what you are posting, Exploring Cleveland? Get real! I stand by what i say and have no problem expressing it! Explore the Culture Gardens, the Rockefeller homes, East Blvd. Rockefeller Park. You knew exactly what you were doing when you wrote that title. :x

What's the purpose? Clevelanders exposing blight in Detroit and Detroit exposing Cleveland? We all need new hobbies, people live in these communities. I find the pictures offensive, let's see your damn neighborhood! I am so tired of Clevelanders and everyone else calling the east side of Cleveland, East Cleveland. They are two different places!
  5. Amazing shots there! Really impressed with the Med Mart Pics and how well the East Bank is coming along, window!!!!
  6. I've been thinking about this a lot. While Cleveland can claim Case Western Reserve, Cleveland State, John Carroll, she really doesn't have a world class educational institution like she should. No offense to Case Western Reserve, I am sure it would have a more distinguished national reputation if it were located along the east coast, but we really don't have much of an excuse. You would think it (CWRU) would have a top ten medical school overall with neighbors like Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital, but it floats along as just a (good) school) top tier , but definitely not a household name. This status is across the board (Law School and Engineering, too). I am comparing Cleveland with other cities with rich cultural and philanthropic histories: Baltimore (Johns Hopkins), St. Louis (Wash U.), Pittsburgh (Carnegie Mellon, Pitt), Boston (Harvard, MIT, Boston University), DC (Georgetown, GW, American, Howard (HBCU), Philly (Penn, Swarthmore, Haverford, Bryn Mar), Minneapolis/St. Paul (U. Minnesota, Carleton, Macalester), New York (Columbia, NYU). Why didn't Cleveland become a university town? Just asking? Does anyone agree or understand why?
  7. Clevelanders calling a business "lame" WOW! We have a few potbellies here in DC and they coexist well with independent shops. Let's get over ourselves!
  8. EDALE, Cleveland is lovable. Thank you for the love! Cincy is quite a looker too!
  9. Attitudes can be snobbish. When you call things gross or crappy, it also questions the judgement of those who eat there. But , I live in Washington,DC now and I love the fact that we have a great mixture that caters to all.
  10. Amazing the snobbish attitudes. You would swear from the comments Cleveland=Florence, Paris or NYC. Comments like "disgusting" and "crappy" are so absurd! Often people go to higher end chains because the menu offers trusted items they enjoy. I have been to many an independent restaurant and was truly dissappointed in the quality of food. A good mixture is ideal. High-end chains kinda signal that you have arrived..... We have two districts downtown where independents flourish. Euclid being the main artery, should offer more recognizable names for those who are at a convention or visiting the casino.
  11. With the 2014 Gay Games coming, could we designate a specific neighborhood as Cleveland's Gay Urban Center? Hopefully sproating new lounges, restaurants, clubs and boutiques
  12. As the original poster, can we take TGIF out of the equation? I never mentioned it. You can not compare Cheesecake Factory, Legal Seafood, P.F. Chang and Maggiano's to TGIF. I feel there is a strong market for upscale chains in a central location, not just the far east and far west sides of town. Also, how about a . TRADER JOE'S downtown? On a lower scale, how about a FIVE GUYS Burger Rest.?
  13. I agree with having a full range of option (independent and chains), three i think would suffice and the ones named are very popular choices of big city visitors. I love that we have E. 4th and The Warehouse district, but having options of upscale chains definitely makes us more reputable. It would be cool if Tower city only had independent clothing and apparel shops, but having a Banana Republic, J. Crew and Crate and Barrel brings recognizable quality brands.
  14. I think we have to consider that many of the visitors to our new casino and those who are here for conventions and games want recognizable names to grab a bite, especially if their not carrying around their Zagat Guide. The restaurants mentioned are not on the level of Ruby Tuesday or TGIF, but actually serve quality food. In fact, compared to bigger metro areas, Cleveland doesn't have major representation for their brands. Just a thought.
  15. What is the possibility of one floor in Tower City Center/The Avenue being turned into a restaurant destination for mid-scale restaurants? For instance, having a Maggiano's, P.F. Chang, Cheesecake Factory, and Legal Seafood? Since these restaurants have significant appeal it seems logical. Also, the Warehouse District and E. 4th appeals more to independent restaurant foodies.

It can also attract Little League tournaments, Cleveland City School Games and Championship.
  17. Flying over Chicago I was amazed by the size of our big sister. Chicago's grid looks twice maybe three times the size of Cleveland's. At it's pop. High we had 900 thousand +. What historically allowed the ridiculous number of burbs to pop up in our county. Even looking at Detroit, it is much larger than Cleveland proper area wise. What the hell happened? I know the dynamics of indy and columbus, but dense cities such as Cleveland and Pittsburgh almost doomed themselves. Does Cleveland control water like Columbus, I would really appreciate some history. Thanks in advance!
  18. It is a very hip venue in the Washington DC area, located at the National Harbor. Though I still wish that Cleveland could lure Starwood to build a Westin Downtown and a W in University Circle(future).

you're right, i am going to google earth it
  20. Atlanta has it's Piedmont Park, could Cleveland create it's own urban park linking Midtown and Uptown? I know that "Cleveland Clinic is buying up all the property" but, can you envision razing all of the boarded up homes in Midtown creating a Central Park type effect in the middle of the eastside? It would link Midtown to Rockerfeller Park in Uptown/University Circle. Chester with it's jack-o-lantern housing is so prime. It is a natural expressway and could be lined with highrise apt/condo living, upscale communities and restaurants, and recreation venues all within an urban park the magnitude of Central Park/ Piedmont Park. Having the new University Circle / Uptown skyline anchoring the eastern end. Just dreaming, I hate the idea of these urban farms, it seems like a giving up type action. Let's create urban parks of old.
  21. If a hotel were placed on the property where would it likely sit? or would it create a chance to place an iconic hotel structure along the lake?
  22. It's is fine. Where are you moving from?
  23. Sorry for not being an urban planner, I just wonder why we don't see high density housing in University Circle. I find it really odd that cities like St. Louis, Atlanta, Dallas and Houston all have these activity centers around medical centers and schools that rival downtown business districts. University Circle should resemble those areas, it has more cultural, educational and medical prowess than 90% of the communities these activity centers are found in. I don't know much, just thinking, Atlanta and St. Louis have some shady neighborhoods bordering the spectacular activity centers. I am just hopeful that Euclid will return to being the hotbed of urban activity. It's been 50 years, but Cleveland has one of the best grids in the US. Perfect for population growth and new industry. Wouldn't it be great to see hotels in University Circle? I actually wish the convention center was located along Euclid between midtown and uptown, it makes too much sense.
  24. Over the weekend, I was in Atlanta and impressed with Peachtree St/Rd. There were many distinct neighborhoods that resembled urban centers ( DOwntown.Midtown/ Art District, Buckhead) Could Euclid Avenue follow this model? Could we see other urban centers with skyscaper hotels and condo in University Circle and Midtown/55th? Shopping District between Midtown and University Circle?
