  1. I have not talked to any engineers on this project, but generally gravel trenches promote water drainage. As has been noted before, water will stand at that particular site when it rains. I would think the area was graded to encourage water to drain toward the gravel trenches. The 'black membrane/tarp' noted above was probably used to line the trenches to keep out as much dirt as possible. Then again, it could be for a totally different purpose.
  2. Why does the enquliar have to be so 'low budget'? They should take a little pride in their community!
  3. ^ Depending on which bombs they used! But if their intent was to destroy that particular target...they had an arsenal very capable.
  4. And there are still people who doubt the power of 'Big Oil'. Although decent management at airlines is still something to be desired!
  5. I would be surprised to see any high-rise for this project anytime soon. They have three years left on their TIF agreement, then they will seek an extension... it will get approved because they start building the town homes and newport officials are all giddy... complete build out will be in 15-20 years. (as UncleRando stated) Current newport officials will be on their death beds taking credit for this project that has probably been scaled down as mention in the previous post. :-D
  6. So I am not the only one battling the ignorance on the enquliar site?
  7. Are these people 'simple minded' or what!? :wtf: They are the reason this is being built in the first place. They act as if the only people who are going to be shopping there are from their community. These developers & businesses do not care about municipal boundaries, wow! unbelievable!!!... :drunk:
  8. That's what Urban Ohioans do best!
  9. Nooooooooo! I love that tacky thing. It's how I tell what time it is when I'm on the roof of my building! I like that clock too! The time is always right and it's convenient from different buildings. I don't see how anyone could not like it, typical locals who complain about everything I guess...

Hello was a great program, I used it for sharing pictures. I am not happy with google about their decision, no reason to have picasa now.

Heck, the average american has no idea which ocean is on what coast, but everyone seems to know the great lakes, especially lake Erie. I have not heard anyone use the term 'upstate' or 'downstate when referring to Ohio, I haven't heard anyone use those terms for california either, only when referring to new york state. The official terms for Ohio would be the directional terms of North West, North East, Central, South West, and South East. I have yet to find anyone to use the term East Coast when referring to places south of the washington dc area. people from north or south carolina do not use those terms, and neither do people from florida.

WOW! The lousy attitudes & close-mindedness of members of this forum is astounding and could not be overstated!! I find this not to be a true representation of Ohioans.
  13. Louisville over Covington is probably more accurate, from their perspective, but that's just being nit-picky, I suppose. That was probably a smart move on kentuckys part. The only people who differentiate Cincinnati & northern kentucky are people who are from the Cincinnati metro, the rest of the world considers it Cincinnati, Ohio and has no idea about northern kentucky. As far as status is concerned, it would have been associated with Cincinnati just like CVG.
  14. I think the only place you will find a bloomingdales in the whole state of new york is probably new york city. The only reason macy's has a secondary office in new york is because terry wants to live there. Almost all corporate functions take place in Cincinnati, including their annual meetings & corporate events.
  15. I always wondered how long at&t would stay in san antonio. Not long ago Ed was stating their commitment & how they wanted to bring an nfl team to san antonio. The inability of san antonio to land an nfl team may have contributed to the move, at&t is rumored to be a lead candidate for naming rights of the dallas cowboys new stadium. So for all those people who seem to think company HQ shuffling only happens where they live, well here is the proof it happens everywhere.
  16. OK! lol... One of us has the wrong impression of 'high end'. Not to offend anyone, but I consider Mark Shale, Polo Raulph Lauren, etc...to be as generic as any other... Don't get me wrong now, Polo Ralph Lauren is one of my favorite brands & has been since I was a kid but I don't consider them high end.

Finally! Someone with some sense!! Thanks for taking the time to post. I figured it would fall upon deaf ears, hence the reason I didn't bother posting similar info. Seems there are a few forumers here who suffer from CDD (comprehension deficit disorder). If it's not spelled out by the media, it just doesn't 'compute'.
  18. That is a good point cle2032, most cities with newer teams are struggling for support. Miami, tampa, jacksonville fl, charlotte, new orleans, memphis & denver have all had expansion teams or new teams that struggle. One exception would be seattle, as the sonics are the oldest pro team in seattle, they will be moving soon.

What kind of food? The water we are talking about is fresh H2O.
  20. ^ I mentioned before that one of those caps could be a nice place for a dog park, where dogs can be unleashed with owners supervision. There is no reason a nice dog park can't be incorporated with what j3shafer mentioned above, nice plazas & public art. I would like to see at least one of the larger caps developed with a structure, preferably housing.
  21. ^ I am glad someone tackled the parking issue, lol. I don't know why anyone would think they couldn't do that. It's not a matter of 'can they' it's a matter of 'will they'. I don't think the caps were designed to hold massive structures, not because they couldn't, but because they didn't.
  22. The "grand park" to which you are referring will be directly south of the Freedom Center, connecting/extending the most excellent parks already established. The FWW caps weren't originally designed to be "grand parks", their intent is to reconnect the CBD with the riverfront. I do hope their potential is maximized so they truly become grand, but Lets not lose focus and start bashing this project. (which seems to happen a lot here on this site) Nobody is bashing, and I agree with you, the Riverfront Park is plenty of greenspace along with Bicentennial Commons, Sawyer Point and the Friendship Park. Too much greenspace has the same (if prettier) effect as surface parking lots - disjointed streets and wasted opportunity costs. We can either have nothing over FWW, or have caps of green space. I'll take the green space regardless of the affect of having surface parking lots. Like I pointed out before, the main goal of the caps are to 'hide' FWW and reconnect the CBD to the riverfront. If the only negative from this project can be the ''too much greenspace" argument, well, we are really becoming desperate for negativity here in the 'Nati'. I actually find it refreshing to hear a conversation about too much green space. Most cities can only wish they had planned for more...
  23. I think utilities would be the least of their concerns, I couldn't see how that would even be an issue.
