  1. It seems like most young people would initially prefer to live in the city when they are single, but once they get their life established with wife, job & kids they feel the need to live that so called american dream in the suburbs. Thats exactly what happened in friends if you remember the last season. As you mature, your way of thinking changes. Luckily for me I was raised in a rural/county atmosphere & now live in the city.

I don't keep up with hollywood drama but thats the first time I ever heard anyone say anything like that about jessica parker. I would imagine a lot of negativity toward her would stem from sex in the city tv show. I think jessica alba is pregnant. :'(
  3. It has been interesting over the years to see how the different races & tracks have changed. One of my favorite 'old school' tracks was north wilkesboro. Bruton Smith & a partner also purchased that track and moved both nascar races, one race moved to new hampshire and the other to texas. Looks like this could be a case of 'what comes around' as new hampshire could lose a race to kentucky speedway. At one time or another I have been to martinsville, rockingham, north wilkesboro, darlington, bristol, charlotte, talladega & pocono. I haven't been to a race for years and probably won't ever attend another nascar race. The worse thing about nascar races are the particular people who go to them. The hardcore fans follow the series around from race to race and are knowledgeable about racing & usually arrive at the track days before the race & don't leave the track until after its over, because they usually have some type of RV. Those fans don't really cause any problems. Then you have the sunday afternoon armchair driver/pit crew leader who thinks they know everything but really don't know much at all except who drives what car. These are the ones who cause most all the problems, They heckle drivers using profane language with total disregard for other spectators among some of the other classless acts they are capable of. I have witnessed a lot of fights & alcohol abuse at nascar races over the years. The other group of fans would be the family type who have never been to a nascar race and are taking the kids for their first event. I have heard some of those people say they won't go back because the atmosphere is so primitive. I would think some of the newer tracks such as chicago would attract a much more civilized crowd. I don't like to label people, but I would have to say from all my experiences a lot of rednecks & hillbillies go to nascar races, especially in the south. I have lost interest in nascar with all the template changing & restrictor plate limits among other rule changes that have occurred. The days of who can engineer the best chassis & build the best engine are over, now it's all about leveling the playing field. These days you can't even tell what model a car is when its coming down the straightaway until you actually see whats written on the bumper because they are all the same. I am glad the kentucky speedway is finally getting a nascar race and I hope it turns out to be a respectable event. However, If you enjoy the smell of 110 octane sunoco racing fuel pumping through a carbureted small block cranking out 800 HP while propelling a 3400 pound car around the track at speeds upward of 200 MPH, then you would probably have fun regardless... Ladies & gentlemen, welcome to Cincinnati International Speedway... Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!...
  4. ^ Talking about negativity... I look forward to the streetcar but it didn't affect my decision to move here nor will it be a factor in my decision to remain here. Every american city I have been suffers from the negativity factor of locals, no city is immune.
  5. While some see this as crazy & odd, I see it as a testament to downtown. There are plenty of people who spare no expense on their car. I have been in a couple of downtown garages and when I think about it, I did notice a lot of expensive cars BMW, Mercedes, Saab, Volvo, Cadillac, Porsche, Lexus, etc etc... While this new auto spa may not be marketed to the budget conscience, I think the market they are targeting will "buy into this". It's all about service & convenience. If this catches on across the country, I guess we know where it all started.

It seems like most hollywood stars or famous people are from the Midwest area. Sarah Jessica Parker, Katie Holmes, and Carmen Electra are just three I thought of right off the top of my head that guys have been drooling over for years, and all are from Ohio.
  7. I agree, when streetcars become successful other local governments will want in on the action too. I can already see nky wanting a piece of the streetcar action. Seeing how west chester is always seeking an urban feel it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't go after streetcars also  Just another example of Cincinnati being emulated...
  8. Hey seicer, they are building one of those in the urban core, its called The Banks! ;) Although I think The Banks will be much better!
  9. Now this is just my opinion so I hope people don't try to spin it in such a way to make it seem like I am preaching the gospel, but I don't think this will effect the tri-county mall in any way. The tri-county mall is in a huge retail area that isn't going anywhere soon. I am not familiar with the middletown mall. As far as gas is concerned, there are 35,000 people living in this community already, and they are expecting over 60,000. I don't know how far they have to drive for the same type of entertainment/shopping thats about to be built in their community, but I would be willing to bet they will save gas by shopping at this new town center, so those developers are actually doing them a favor the way I see it. I'm sure some people will drive a longer distance to shop there, but if they are willing to drive there they would be willing to drive somewhere else if this town center didn't exist. On another note, I hope bass pro shop don't move because I like their location now, but I could understand if they did.
  10. LOL... "the mac daddy one" I guess it will complement that big 'mac daddy' bridge...
  11. I'm guessing you mean the developer, but The Enquirer does mention that in its last sentence: "The screen will be like the large TV on Fountain Square. " There's actually a reason for that. Traditionally, the NKY river cities fought amongst themselves and missed out on a lot of opportunities that they could have had if they had cooperated. Some years ago they got together and decided to put this behind them and behave more or less like one city, with each town filling a role. Covington was to be the business leader (hence the office towers, convention center, and extended stay hotels), Newport became the entertainment center (evidenced by the restaurants, bars, movies, and shopping at Newport on the Levee), and Bellevue was to get the majority of the new housing. Obviously there are exceptions to all of this, but that is why you saw such an obvious entertainment difference between Covington and Newport. As for Newport needing more adult offerings, historically Newport has been a little too "adult", so they're happy just to have bars and restaurants that aren't tied into gambling and stripping anymore. I should have been more specific Jimmy_James, I am aware of newports reputation of crime/gambling/mob/strip clubs. What I was actually referring to was the newport on the levee mall. The only other part of newport I can recall is the white castle across from that huge bell in the middle of that parking lot. BTW, that poor bell... :'( I think they should move it to that area just north of the suspension bridge by the underground freedom center, I think it would look good there coming across that bridge & people would actually see it instead of being hidden in the middle of a parking lot, thats weird... Looks like covington is the one who lost that little city battle they had going on, at least when it comes to the riverfront because their riverfront just, sorry I have to say it, sucks!! At least newport took the hint from cincinnati & offered a view & made a little walkable area even if it is a mall.
  12. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Oh! The Drama.... I was just amused by the 'envisioned' part of the story. I was never implying that they should not build their plaza. I am all for great public spaces/areas. From some of the comments it sounds like kentucky likes to play copycat. Thats become the american way anyhow, keeping up with the joneses. I don't think anyone really cares if they build that plaza, its the way they try to give people a sense it is something new. It seems everyone here agrees that it would be a nice addition to the area, BUT, give credit where credit is due because in all actuality they want the same synergy that fountain square offers. For anyone who hasn't been to fountain square, the only thing that is the same after the renovation is the fountain itself, I know this from first hand experience. If the fountain square wasn't successful, we wouldn't be having this conversation. The people responsible for the success of fountain square received a sincere form of flattery from that article...
  13. Do you think they were sipping coffee at that Westin hotel across from the Fountain Square when they 'envisioned' an outdoor pedestrian plaza with a huge electronic display that can be viewed from the plaza? I visioned their 'envision' right downtown Cincinnati! wow!! I hope nobody takes offense but that covington kentucky riverfront is a boring place. I didn't see anything to do except browse the murals on the wall & take pictures of Cincinnati like everyone else. That newport at least has a walkable environment although they need more adult offerings, a lot of kids running around, is that because of the theater? I like the bookstore though. If you want a nice walk/stroll you have to walk that park on the Ohio side. They need little bike taxis because once you get to the end, of course you have to walk back. That is a long walk!! Sounds to me like they are trying to capitalize on the history of Cincinnati & fountain square. I read somewhere but I can't remember now, when fountain square was 'envisioned'/built. This isn't the first place I recall a suburb trying to mold themselves after the city. Ascent builders envision plaza - ROFLOL - sorry but that is just too funny. The NERVE!! In five years they'll want a sports stadium...

After checking out some pictures, you know how awesome it would be to see the worlds most high tech race cars zooming North by the Ascent onto the historic Roebling Bridge & braking hard into the corner possibly ending up on the lawn of the Freedom Center! and thats just a half mile! *catching breath* now onto Mt Adams...

WOW!! A two state Grand Prix across the Ohio river would be a one of a kind race. Lots of viewing opportunities by the river & bridges. Sounds too exciting compared to all the boring racecourses they are accustomed to though. The drivers would lose focus & end up in the river... :-o Plenty of advertising opportunities on those bridges too!
