Columbus: General Transit Thread
I am having a hard time finding info about the status of the Columbus streetcar and light rail plans? Does anyone have any info? Will it happen?

Americans fleeing nation's big cities
Columbus may have a lot of sprawl, but it sure has a lot of nice brick urban neighborhoods as well. Most sunbelt cities lack that.

Since when were Cincinnati and Columbus considered rust belt cities?

Columbus Clippers Final Game 2009 - Huntington Park
Damn that is one nice stadium. Good for Columbus for putting it in the downtown area. Hell, I might go to a game next year. Great views of the skyline too!!

Downtown Cleveland seen from the Terminal Tower.
Why did they shut down the observation deck? I was there sometime around 2001 or so and I loved it. I still have the great photos I took. Is there any chance they will reopen it? I wish I could take my friend up there when I will be in Cleveland Oct. 15th, but I know that isn't going to happen. Are there any other observation decks? (I would doubt it).

This is why Cincinnati sucks
Chicago has no dilapidated neighborhoods. Ha Ha :-D

Chicago - The Southside & Westsiiiiiiiiiiiide!
I really appreciate this photo and information thread!! Thanks MyTwoSense  What do you think is the percentage of the city that is in this shape? Is there any hope of revitalization of these large swaths of decay? I know lots of cities are like Chicago in the sense that one side of the city is great and the other crime ridden and decayed, but Chicago seems to top that. The inate racism is still there and the segregation is so stark. The amount of rough areas seems to be larger than most cities too, at least IMO. The Chicago Tribune seems to cover the white areas of the city and has a suburban bent. Obviously I have been to Chicago many times. The Sun-Times seems to cover the black and poor sections of Chicago way more often and has a city coverage bent. Most of the classified adds are for the South side while the Tribune's are for the white North side and white suburbs. That is just so weird. It's like class warfare. Plus the Sun-Times is not a good newspaper to begin with and it doesn't even have a buyer. I cannot think of any city that has a newspaper that just covers one type of class of people (rich whites mainly) and the other poor (mostly blacks and hispanics). That's insane. A newspaper is supposed to cover everyone equally. What is going on here? The people on the south and west sides are being treated like second class citizens. They are not all thugs and drug dealers. Many great people come from these areas and many are so scared to leave their homes or apartments. I have talked to them personally. A black person in Chicago will almost every time have a totally different view of the city than a white person and it's usually very negative. Getting rid of the projects was great, but there is still a long way to go. Mayor Daley needs to focus more on these areas. Gentrification is usually not the answer, but revitalization is. This really concerns me about Chicago because it is one of my favorite cities, yet at the same time it is one of the worst when I think about it, if you know what I mean. That just really pisses me off about Chicago. :? I leave it at that. I'll probably add more later.

Andre's Chicago Photo(s) of the Day(s)
Once I get a little cash I will be up there on Monday since I have Monday and Tuesday's off. I'll go in the late fall or winter. I don't care. It's cool to see cities and how they behave during different seasons. Been to NYC in the winter but not the CHI.

They say Chi city, CHI CITY!
Me too. The Southside and west side never get any attention. They are still part of the city whether they are good areas or not. Chicago isn't all the northside. There is a baseball team hardly anyone knows about on the southside too, but you would think Chicago has only the cubs.

Recession 09: Chicago
We all know the northside is really nice, but come on. How is the rest of the city doing? Are the south and west side's revitalizing or is this still a one sided type place?

Atlanta Documentary Part 1: Atlantic Station
I don't like the city or the south. I don't like the South either period. It's cities suck, (I have been to all of them), no density, character, hardly any good architecture and there are way too many Republican freaks, religious fundamentalists, Confederate lovers, etc. Do I need to say anything else. If I have my way I will never go south of Cincinnati or Arlington, VA, essentially 38 degrees latitude. I sound so angry and simplistic right now, but I could give you countless reasons to convey why I feel this way. My small city of Wheeling is denser than any Southern city in this country. That's pretty sad.

Deathless Detroit: Mexicantown
That picture from 1930 makes me sick. I cannot believe how an American city, especially one that large can just litterally implode without any help from the government because of the racial issues. And we are supposed to be the best country in the world? We sure have some problems that are going to take decades to fix or longer.

Lafayette, Indiana as the sun sets
Damn that place is nice. I have driven by so many times going to Chicago, but never stopped downtown.

Philadelphia Revisited
Awesome. Great job. I rode the subway line in from 69th street terminal on the west side and saw a lot of that decay as well in 2003 going into Center City. Kind of depressing. What percentage of the city of Philly is similar to the North Philly area (crime/decay-wise)? I think it is at least 30-35% or maybe more though the city is definately revitalizing. Hopefully the inner city neighborhoods improve, not just areas surrounding Center City.
