  1. It may be time to drain the swamp at RTA headquarters. ;)
  2. Toured the new Westin. I think they did a great job upgrading the aging space. The meeting rooms and public areas are much improved. We have booked our annual meeting at the Westin in January, after having it in Dominican Republic or Nassau the last few years. Glad to keep it home, and keeping it positive with our sales force who are grumbling about Cleveland in January.
  3. Avon is a lovely community.
  4. Cute idea to have the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad provide service to the casino, but seriously a non-starter as a solution to parking needs. It would be a gimmic and that's it. Parking would need to be up close for 99.9% of patrons.
  5. Thnaks for the occasional photos. I had a north-facing office in Key Tower for a number of years and wish I had it now to watch this project. I think this project is the most important one going on in Cleveland now, more so than the casino and Innerbelt projects.

I have not tried RTA for my commute to my new office yet. Getting from Lorain County to Carnegie near E40th involves a transfer, presumably on Public Square or at STJTC. Everything is set up to get people to Public Square, which worked well for me for 13 years.
  7. NO! Even if I park on the 3rd floor, I drive up to 9 so I can coast all the way down the spiral exit ramps. It's like Cedar Point! Anyhoo, carry on.
  8. I agree with MTS, but some of the things discussed above RTA was already aware of, like the broken door at Cudell for 6 months (or more?). I wonder how much of the maintenance budget is taken up by rail maintenance. Beyond some mopping, there is not a whole lot of evidence of maintenance happening at Red line stations. Money's tight, so I can understand why.
  9. I am glad they have been reported, but seriously RTA should not need to be notified by the random public of the large-scale issues at these stations. The Cudell station issues are plainly obvious to RTA staff who pass through there. The broken sliding door for 6 months seemed excessively long, didn't it? On the other hand, perhaps they prioritize repairs based on the number of complaints, so the particularly bad issues should be reported frequently. Who knows.

It would be cheaper to improve bike access from Lorain Rd to Tremont and/or Towpath to Tremont then to add the expense to the bridge.

They fix their mess yet at the Ohio Turnpike? Even cars with tall antennas were getting charged the higher rate... http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/01/ohio_turnpike_height_classific.html Ohio Turnpike height rule leads to higher tolls for passenger vehicles with objects on roof Strap a bike to the top of the car or luggage to the minivan roof, and you will pay more to travel on the Ohio Turnpike. That's because the Turnpike Commission has a new height classification, which shifts passenger vehicles measuring 7 feet 6 inches tall or higher into a toll category meant for heavier two-axle commercial trucks.
  13. I will continue to drive to a park-and-ride. Still cheaper then driving downtown (gas/lot fees) and i get some time to listen to podcasts from howstuffworks.com

    What is your problems?
  15. The most efficient transportation network is not always the most desirable. The personal conveyance preference will continue. Even these young Americans would prefer that to public transportation as soon as they start making money. The solutions to our problems are not a return to trains and busses. Call them selfish, but neither Democrats nor Republicans are for eliminating personal vehicles.
  16. Good stuff.

Lorain-Carnegie has some nice views of downtown. I've taken quite a few pictures from there over the years. No need for a multi-million dollar duplicate of that further from downtown.

Wow, you are cynical. You drive a car just like 99% of us...oil shortages are quite real challenges that need to be dealt with, but spare us the "you-should-feel-guilty-for-driving-a-car" nonsense.

No need to connect to Towpath, the towpath would already be the bike path into downtown (and connector into Tremont). Paying for a wide enough lane for bikes on a new high level bridge would not generate much support or usage.

Speaking of Indiana, they have a couple of political blogs that I wish could be duplicated for Ohio politics. Doug Masson's is the best...even if he is a tad too liberal for my liking. Ohio has nothing matching that.
  21. Congrats to Toledo!

My wife has me on this kick where I hear EVERYONE using "is" instead of "are". All the time. Even former English teachers I know... There's many ways in which I'd like to smack them when they do that. :)
  23. 145 seems silly as those flyers are filled every day. If they are counting on ALL moving to a slow bus down Fulton (including bridge detour), they may be surprised. Seems like biggest winner in RTA's revenue woes are the downtown parking lot owners.
