Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
When RTA raises fares .25 next month, will they also be eliminating the fuel-surcharge? So net, the fare price will be the same? From RTA's press release last year: If additional State funding is not in place by Sept. 1, 2009, fares could change as often as once every three months, depending on what RTA pays for diesel fuel. - If the cost of diesel fuel drops below $3 a gallon, the surcharge goes away. - If the cost of diesel fuel is between $3 and $4 a gallon, the fuel surcharge is 50 cents. - If the cost rises to $4.01-$4.75, a gallon, the fuel surcharge is 75 cents. - If the cost of diesel fuel rises to more than $4.76 a gallon, the fuel surcharge is $1. From the official energy statisitcs source of the US Government: http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/gdu/gasdiesel.asp Actually, looking at the chart, the fuel charge was supposed to go away by April? Or am i reading this wrong?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Any Red Line users get stopped on the train yet to check your pass? While it is not faster than the old method (at least during rush hour), it has not been too bad. Still a bit of a delay getting off the train in morning compared to the old way, but I just position myself by a door so i can get get ahead of the slow pokes and clueless wonders. I know it can't be much, but hopefully this results in reduced expense to RTA in the future.

I would have guessed that right hand turns were more dangerous for busses and pedestrians. Seems like visibility should be pretty good on a typical left hand turn.

I understan the system will have to develop. However, for morning rush I was just contending it will never be quicker as claimed. At best it will be the same, if you scoot off the train and stay ahead of the masses.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Only one stop on the west-side Red Line has a pay-on-the-train setup during rush, and other Red Line users can chime in, I do not think those riders hold up the train that often. (the train often pulls away as they are still paying) For morning commute, I don't see how it is even possible for this new setup to be quicker. Any Red Line users disagree? :? Other times, like weekend ballgames and such, it will likely be quicker because stations are not always manned at those times, with instructions to pay on the train. If the setup saves RTA money, I will be happy. I have not heard what the cost savings are. The current setup has booth attendants at 8 of 9 stations to the west during busy hours. Will the cost of new transit officers be significantly less than the cost of those attendants? Won't the new officers have to cover more hours than the attendants did per week? Is that factored in? The scan-as-you-exit setup at Tower City WILL slow things down a bit, at a time when i am at my grumpiest. You know the guy in front of you will swipe his card 3 different ways before he gets it to work... :)

I understand, but just pointing out that during rush hour, the new system does not offer any time savings to riders. They should not advertise it as such. Hopefully we can use both sets of turnstiles while exiting?

Well, see there you go. It will NOT be a faster system for morning commuters because now they have to wait in lines as the masses head off the train and into Tower City. Seems a lot like the Green/Blue Line setup, doesn't it? If you use a 5-ride, you have to swipe before AND after your ride in the new setup. Where are the time savings there? At least with my monthly pass I do not have to do the first swipe, but that never took that long anyway...

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
I can;t answer the rest of your question, but from Public Square to Playhouse Square the road was too narrow for the dual platform setup, I believe.

Yeah, we have at least 5 of those sweltering days in Cleveland each year. Why design a shelter more suitable for the 205 cold, wintery days we have each year.

There has to be a logical explanation for the gaps. I'll check back for that later.

The story is just a sick example of where we are in society. And you wonder why people feel safer in Avon than Cleveland?

Yea, uh huh. Your turn! been there, done that. yea, youre probably right. I guess a natural progression from fun sunglasses pictures is tooooo....shirtless pictures. MTS, you're up! Yeah, for someone who posts on this thread regularly, there does not seem to be a single surviving picture of MTS...

Ohio Smoking Ban
Forget enforcing the ban. If cities really want to make money, just write littering tickets. Those can be as high as $500 in some cities, I think. Every smoker I see in downtown Cleveland apparently believes throwing the butt on the ground is an acceptable practice.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I am not sure how serious they are about Marty. It sounds liek they leaked his name so they could listen in on the buzz amongst fans to see if they are interested in Marty. I think I would take him over Cowher.
