  1. The poll is 60 percent "No" at 5:30 p.m. -- vote now! Quite suspicious how the poll could shift so dramatically in one hour...
  2. I also wonder what the perspective of the non-student residents of the neighborhood is anyway? Have they, too, given up on Short Vine? What do *they* envision it to be? This development proposal is clearly not designed for the neighborhood but for the transient and suburban visitor in mind.
  3. So, guys--what's the answer? Corryville as a neighborhood has been virtually powerless in the face of redevelopment. Just attending one CCC meeting last year, I heard that a development proposal for University Plaza was forwarded to the City via Uptown Consortium but skipped over the CCC entirely. They heard about it after the fact. Corryville has long been neglected, both by the city and by Cincinnatians from other neighborhoods. The bad reputation of Short Vine has only been present over the past 15 years. Prior to this, the district was an active, thriving strip. So who stands up to this? We all expect it to be someone else, but clearly the developers have won many times over.
  4. So, the proposal is to tear down the majority of an entire neighborhood business district for a megadevelopment. Meanwhile, there's plenty of vacant land *held* by developers that don't have enough money move forward with their projects. I'm truly astounded that nearly all of you support this development, all because you think Short Vine today is bad news. What about the buildings themselves are bad news? What really should be under discussion is what can truly be done to promote revitalization of the Corryville CBD, *not* redevelopment of it. This is NOT the answer. It's quite interesting that because Corryville is comprised of a higher percentage of rental properties (and therefore, less opposition to horrible garbage projects such as this), the soul of the neighborhood can easily be sacrificed in favor of THIS. I'm appalled!

  6. Silversun Pickups is on the same label. Dangerbird Records is in Silverlake CA...which is where the legendary Spaceland venue is located.
  7. Sounds like quite the proportion to me.
  8. Which would be illegal.
  9. Seems like that's all you ever talk about.
  10. ^You, You're Awesome's website has a blog post about Bad Veins gig on Fountain Square and afterparty at The Righteous Room here: http://youyoureawesome.com/index.php/site/fountain_square_this_friday/ Details from Bad Veins' facebook page: Join Bad Veins as they celebrate the release of their long awaited debut album on Dangerbird Records! Definitely swing by. ;)
  11. Any here going to the opening of The Righteous Room on Friday? It's also going to double as the afterparty for Bad Veins' CD release show on Fountain Square.
  12. Damn right I'm not paying gas tax, except for the one or two times per year I rent a car. I'd gladly pay a tax for transit funding though.
  13. Just checked. An 11 story parking garage...with a promenade? WHY? Call me a sucker for being so late on this, but Jesus Christ. Do we never build up to the street without a parking structure anymore? Other buildings seem to manage with their parking shuttles. They're consolidating into one building too. Why do we need even MORE parking?
  14. What's the area to the north of the construction going to be? Originally I thought that was also going to be covered by QCSII. Is it not?
  15. Still think it would be in the airlines best interest to keep international flights but cut regional flights. That way they'd be setting themselves up for the future not having to worry about high speed rail competing for their business. Plus, international travel is still stronger than regional travel, despite the downturn.
  16. I sure hope it's not going to be another fast food restaurant. From what I've heard, the zoning on the north side of the street calls for higher density than the south side, where you see the Walgreens, Blockbuster, and Gold Star.
  17. I wouldn't count on the latter. It's not like they've devoted much of their broadcast to Cincinnati-based based bands, since the move from the terrestrial signal to the internet.
  18. The #4 Blue Ash.
  19. My question is: why do the street level facades have to look like anything elaborate anyway? I'd rather it be simply an extension of downtown than anything.
  20. Excited about the event tomorrow morning.
  21. I wonder how successful this business will be. It's across the street from a surface lot covering nearly one whole block. Retail is a different animal from an eatery. Perhaps that's what they're saying, when they report a *need* for a restaurant in that area, since there are virtually none within the four-block area. I'm skeptical but I'm definitely supportive of the reuse of that building, which is west of the Walgreens.

Even though he sounded like an ass with that last comment, I do agree with DanB to an extent. The great proponents of public transit in Cincinnati should be doing everything they can to embrace and support it. It shouldn't matter that it's not in the most preferable state right now.
  23. Cincinnati Streetcar.......what about it? Is this like a band t-shirt, where it'll just say what it is to show you're a fan, or is there a statement on the shirt we're not seeing?
  24. Only because it's a fat chance. Two things I wish upon our city: 1) No more lots converted to greenspace! 2) No desecration of our existing parks.
