Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I see the parking lot issue as more of stance on keeping all school entities safer. Mostly, I feel that the parking would be for faculty but also guests. If the school provides an "oasis" or sanctuary for all guests, workers, and parents, no one will complain about lack of safety in crossing the street. No one will complain about having their car broken into on a neighborhood street. In turn, I believe they think that will make the school more appealing to prospective students' parents, prospective employees, and existing parents and employees. I don't entirely agree with it, believe me. I'd rather see the buildings stay as they are, no matter what. Let's face it though. That area of the neighborhood won't turn around for at least five to ten years, as the area of East Clifton west to Vine needs a lot of work. This is there way of saying, "Hey, we're making the entire project a safer and more viable one." Eh.

^Well, I can understand if it's an international league. Hating Green Bay, for instance, doesn't makes any sense to me. Unless you got jumped in GB on a business trip, I guess...

Now it's funny how little prominence that brand has and, even more so, the jackets. They sell them in KMart now, I believe.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
They don't need to be transportation experts to kill this thing. They just need enough signatures to put it on the ballot. Many are for the streetcar, many are undecided. Clearly there are a fair number of people who wouldn't benefit from its construction as it is. So, if this makes it to a special ballot, I'm not saying it'll absolutely be a nail in the coffin-- Such opposition shouldn't have had a chance to squash it in the first place. My opinion: we still have a *LOT* of work to do. We need to get plans set. We have money available to hire consultants to do environmental studies and to formulate plans for our future transit. It's easier to get public subsidy when a plan is in place. We don't even have that. I don't see this RFQ or these delays as being a good sign at all.

^How do *you* know that? Jesus. And if UC were to not renew the contract, where do you think those games would be televised?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^Our political and business climate is quite different in Cincinnati. That's been made clear from the start. I didn't say that *a* streetcar would never be built. I said that *this* streetcar will not be built. Just like I can say that the 2002 light rail initiative *did not* happen but one may surface in the future.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Blue Line replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI don't even know what you're talking about. The Uno's in Beechmont is owned by those who own the West Chester location and many Taco Bell locations in the region. The old Pizzeria Uno location in Beechmont was shuttered due to high rents in the new Anderson Towne Center and construction having affected overall business. The new location isn't owned by those who used own the two former Cincinnati locations. And you're thinking of Giordano's Pizzeria.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I have absolutely no confidence, at this point, that we will see *this* streetcar project come to fruition. We've just been wasting too much time and looking for money in the wrong places. Heck, we didn't even send a request to the Obama guys for transit subsidy...of any kind! I used to be a cheerleader for the Cincinnati streetcar, but I think the NAACP will easily crush this pipedream. Do we have plans together for the streetcar? Nope. Do we have plans together for light rail? Nope. Would we even know where the stops would be located? Nope. Are we trying to get federal money during a crucial opportunity for non-road infrastructure? Nope! Why are we NOT trying again for a small tax to fund the construction of the streetcar? RFQ, countless rescheduled streetcar proposal meetings, rescheduled deadlines, etc. There's no reason for me to have confidence in seeing a finished product. If there's a saving grace that I have indubitably missed, let me know.

I've never understood *hatred* for a team in any sport. It's really based on absolutely nothing.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
The same is true for Chicago's CTA. There is no rule that says you can't photograph the tracks, stations, or other infrastructure, but I've even been stopped once for taking shots in the O'Hare Blue Line station. I've gotten away with much more though.

Quick note: Hamilton no longer has an Amtrak stop. That was ended a couple years ago. The station has been abandoned.

Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
I wish they wouldn't rename the Copper Ale, but I am *very* excited to hear that they'll be selling in 12-ounce bottles. I always get the Copper Ale when I'm at Mac's or Dewey's, but I'd love to have a small size for apartment drinking. Great news.

Blue Line replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI think that if this other Tucker's location is so bad (food, atmosphere, structural problems), it would have closed by now. I don't think it's right to say "don't go there" if you can't tell us why we shouldn't support a local business.

I'd like a definable use of the term "Gateway Quarter". I know it's the passage between OTR and Downtown, but how far north?

^Teaching Assistant. ^^I've had a couple classes with football players, who seemed to show up to classes whenever possible. They actually participated. Can't say anything about the b-ball team though.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Blue Line replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & Entertainment^I've never been to the one on 13th, but my friend used to live right by it. There should be no difference from the one on Vine, where I've eaten and enjoyed many meals.
